  • i actually like someone explaining exactly what it is theyre teaching as well as to give an example ...thanks a bunch..Ignore the kids out there puttting negative comments in (they only want the "shiny stuff" much like a kid going straight to the candy isle in a grocery store).

  • thank you for sharing your gift,

  • hes really fast. Good video!

  • Gilberto' arpeggios

  • LMAO!!! DR HOUSE!

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful presentation! You would make a really good guitar instructor!

  • "flat third that's critical that's how you can tell a lot of minor from major is look at that third, The minor chords; minor arpeggios have that for the most part the flat third"

What do you mean "for the most part?" Don't all minor chords have a flat third?

  • Dr House??

  • Teacher: take some lessons

  • Why would 46 people have disliked this video. Even if, comme moi, you already know this stuff, surely they must have realized that this video is pure gold for beginning guitarists... and no so beginning guitarists who have neglected the study of so much as the rudiments of theory.

  • Old Dave is getting to the age where he might want to reconsider that farkakteh backward baseball cap.

  • BEAUTYFULL GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • noob

  • pelotudo

  • i just learned something! :D

  • rockongood people Id´like to add you to be my friend in my youtube account,

how can i do that ?

  • rockongoodpeople the video is well done. to explain you´ve got to speak and you have played and speak just the necessary it was great to understand.

  • It is constructive making videos like this one because the knowledge stays and the artist dies.

  • esse boné entorta orelha

  • ya know, i don't know why some people are complaining about this lesson. just cause it's an arpeggio doesn't mean it has to be sweep picked at the speed of light. this is a good lesson :)

  • great lesson thnx!!!

  • i'll show you the fingering xD...im sick...

  • I will never understand theory. I just play what I think sounds good.

  • @testament214 I hear you. :/

  • ''Howareyoulikethat Productions'' presents...

  • i only watched 1 guitar lesson of al pitrelli and i was able 2 play learn all the things that he s explaining in 100 of lessons

u just have 2 now the mathematics of music and u will be able 2 learn this arpeggios and modes very easy and quick

ah and i m 15 and can play 80% of all the modes and arpeggios on the fredboard so i think al pitrelli is a great teacher (great guitarist anyway)

  • now the foutrth arpeggio is still upstanded if you play in the same level as the pentatonic.thanks!

  • lmao this is going to be played with your uh...uh.....one thing about arpeggios!

  • Less words more action man!!!!!!!!!!

  • @marquez0410 this is a lesson not a show

  • @marquez0410

Doesn't it feel like you'd wanna bang your head 2 min into the video?

  • @quadpump KILLL ME. This guys camera should be stripped from his possesion

  • @marquez0410 That's what she said...

  • thanks very much man

  • badass corvus on the back wall

  • I lol'd so hard at 5:11!!!!

  • thanx for the lesson you six string Samurai....

  • How are you good people?

  • at all the people that cant tell the difference, there IS a difference between flat and minor. If you had a D flat minor chord, you wouldn't call it a fucking D flat flat. L2music

  • what guitar is that its so nice what model strat is it

  • If the author of this video reads these remarks I want you to know that your videos have made a huge difference in my playing!

I've always wanted to learn how to play lead guitar and these lessons have made me a super star in church!!

    Please continue posting these videos!!!!!!!

  • at 6:27 he does a thing where he moves his finger from the 3rd fret to the 5th fret, and back to the 3rd fret real fast and makes a different sound effect, does that have a name?

  • its called a "trill" , but some people like to refer to it as a "hammer on" or "pulloff" or both a "hammer on and pulloff" lol something of that sort XD

  • hes wordy but this lesson was acually really helpful. he s got a lot of great pointers and insights without showing you an exact lick to play. thanks man !!!!!!!

  • very very good instruction. clear and concise!

  • I'm French, my english is bad, but i understand what he said...performance? You should speak a bit more slowly dude!

  • hahahh yea i feel yea but u know he cant just be like yo yo yo just play this... bsjssbsjklskbsbbsfjcncncnjcjnsjnsc ha right

  • this guy is sooooo boring, i can't even watch the whole thing. bla bla bla bla bla.

  • vi preo fatela curare questa qui...

  • Playing the CHORDS SPELLING=ARPEGIOS..eg:Am=A-C-E..am I rite?

  • tooooo muchhhhh words and to fast as he talks im like dying as i hear him

  • stop being so pedantic. flat third, minor third, same dif. get laid.

  • @fusionmetal1 so sharp third would be the same as major Third?

  • this gay fails.

    1 star, toooo much talking

  • theres no way you could even know if hes gay or not

  • ummm MOST major from minors? all major chords have that major third and all minors have the minor third, its not called a "flat" third its minor.

  • you fail.

  • and how do i fail? im right.

  • minor third=flat third. same thing different names.

  • you will never hear any music theory person say flat third, all intervals are major, minor, perfect, augmented or diminished

  • a flat 3rd is minor

  • youre musically retarted

  • @ilovestinalots,

    It depends on CONTEXT!

The "chord-quality" names ("Minor-3rd" and "Minor-7th" etc,) work when there's already a knowledge of the chord-theory.

However, when DEFINING chords (as in this video w/Cm7,) Intervals as

    "major-scale-relative pitch-distances" are more appropriate.

    EX: C7 - (What's 7th called?)

It's NOT a DOMINANT-7TH, because that note alone DOES NOT make it Dominant! It's NOT a Minor-7th, because Minor refers to a type of "3rd!"

    It's a "FLAT-7th!"

  • @billmeedog

you are in fact...... WRONG every interval is minor, major, or perfect. duh. even in chord context. you use flat when referring to scale degrees or some shit...... shame on you

  • what about diminished and augmented intervals :(

  • @AimmarCair

they're enharmonically equivalant to major or minor or perfect. like an aug. third is a perfect fourth, its just notation and stuff like if youre in harmonic minor you have an aug. 2 which sounds the same as minor three but is notated differently.

  • diminished fifth??? when is it minor or major, sorry to be a pain, I'm just unsure is all

  • yeah man these people are arrogant

a 4th or 5th can be diminished or augmented

    also

  • @ilovestinalots

Yeah i know your talking about a major third this is just proving a point. A seventh chord is a chord consisting of a triad plus a note forming an interval of a seventh above the chord's root. When not otherwise specified, a "seventh chord" usually means a major triad with a flat seventh (a "dominant seventh chord"). So a flat third is the same as being minor it's just a different term.

  • @AbandonMeHere whoa!!! My eyes crossed after reading your comment. I wish I understood theory but I know I never will. take care man

  • @testament214 i know something you don't: you WILL be able to understand theory, as long as you stick with it and don't let frustration get the better of you.

  • @twst1 that's like all of guitar playing lol.

  • 00:37

    THATS WHAT SHE SAID

  • HAHA

  • hahaha

  • Nice lesson, thanks

  • This guy looks ill

  • that's what I was thinking

  • I hate writing comments cuz I usually get some stupid rebuttle, but corresction, the guitar on the wall is a OVATION breadwinner, thanx.

  • I want that Breadwinner on your wall!

  • interesting headstock on your fender

  • so let see if a scale starts on the 3th fret the arpeggio starts on the same fret???? or in the first fret.plz help me :)

  • dont worry bout the fret, its more about the root note. so since its on "3rd fret" or "C" you would start the arpeggio on the root note "C". Which is the same root as the scale in this case. So you start them both on the "C" or the third fret, thats why he keeps saying emphasize the C note

  • ohhhhh thanks alot :)

  • Well CMajor is C E G, so CMinor is C Eb G, and CMinor7 would be C Eb G Bb. So if you play those notes it would be that kind of arpeggio but you emphasize the C.

  • dude the guitar in the back is a gibson corvus they are in guitar hero!! omg dumb ppl.

  • not everyone plays guitar hero you f***ing idiot!!! Prehaps its a game that p***es guitar players off because after noobs play it, they start boasting about how they can play the guitar, just coz they can do guitar hero on the hard level or whatever!!! Twat.... So just because people don't know what the guitar is called, no need to get arsey.. I bet you are one of those guitar hero douchebags...

  • dude i can put some shit of me playing guitar that would blow your mind but what i was saying was the song, and i know for a fact that alot of ppl play guitar hero and i thought that was the most simple way of explaining it.if i had i camera...

  • not it's not you arse it's a danelectro breadwinner.

  • to much talking

  • k does nayone know what the guitar in the back ground is called (not the stratish one) but the othe rone i think its an ibanez but i still dont knwo the name of the model its been really bugging me

  • i believe it's a VOX. there's a video of it in the channel.

  • it might be the VOX or a fernandes :P

  • Ovation breadwinner. He has an entire video about it haha

  • looks like a gibson corvus to me, although it is pretty rare

  • Comment removed

  • stiff fingering haha

  • whoa dude... i gonna try this asap! nice and simple ^__^

and also man.. ur playing is awesome coz its so like smooth and fluent? i dunno how 2 explain it but yeh...

  • ahahaha he said vagina too!!!

  • lol he said "fingering"

  • woah! really!?.........

    imature

  • I AM NOT IMATURE!!! (throws temper tantrum)

  • This guy taught Buckethead... what the fuck?

LOL HE JOINED SATRIANI'S G3 TOUR :DD

    Wow O.o

  • why are they so long and the get carried away too

  • can i strap sausages to my fingers and do this...

  • Confirmed; this works as well.

  • nice guitar what is the guitar like strat or sumtin

  • fender stratocaster

  • i no dat but the neck of the guitar has like a pick guard

  • its just a headstock cover

  • the arpeggio is gonna be played with your

    uh uh

  • made my day xDD

    uh uh

  • he says that relative maj and min are important, yet he FAILS to mention how the c min arpeggio works in the key of D# Maj.

  • No such key as D# Major. It isenharmonic to Eb Major though.

  • no such key?

no, its just easier for pianists to think in terms of Eb,

although, in fairness, the original comment fails to notice the enharmonic D#, give nthat he mentions Ebmaj.

    fails all around, kids.

  • Sorry, theoretically speaking there is no such key as D# Maj. If you think there is, than how would it be written. Let's start with D#,E#,F*(double #),G#,A#,B#,C*. Your sheet music woul be illegible. D# is enharmonic to Eb- meaing it sounds the same. I recommend learning the circle of 5ths and it will all make sense. Try again kid.

  • that would imply that theory is the be all and end all. The majority of guitar players i've met play without sheet music, and given their penchant for thinking in #'s rather than flats, D# is a completely valid key.

you're a little stuck in classical conventions, i think.

and i know my circle of fifths. but music comes from the heart, dude, not from conventions decided on the basis of pieces of paper.

  • If you didn't notice I starfed with "Sorry, theorectally speaking". I think it is important to understand theory and apply it correctly, otherwise there will be confusion when communicating verbally, that is the idea, is it not? Of course, music comes from the heart (and from other places too).

  • i missed the sorry, and read 'theoretically speaking' as if you were implying theory was the be all and end all.

my bad man. yeah, communicating with people who dont know their theory is a lot harder. i have that with the other guitarist in my band. great groove player, minimal theory.

    sorry about the misreading though.

  • It's cool. I am glad you understood it was about verbally communicating using theory. In addition, I understand your point about theory though, I do rely more on feeling than sticking strictly to the diatonic scales, hopefully one can hear that in my playing. Thanks, Lou

  • People have explored beyond the circle of fifths, but the key signatures are retarded and useless. D# will sound exactly like Eb and this has nothing to do with soul in anyway.

  • yes, i believe thats the conclusion we came to, thank you for repeating it in a condescending manner.

  • Thats what Im here for.

  • This guy is all over the place. Dont start here. Find the tab for "Jack Butler's Bag"

  • minor 7 arpegios are pentatonic minor less the perfect 4th

  • the arpeggio is gonna be played with your

    uh uh

the one thing about arpeggios that are critical to your arpeggio playing

    i think he has ADD

  • 0:23 Uh uh, lol

  • what the hell is an arpeggio?

  • a cord where you play each note at a time

  • you mean a SCALE where you play the notes individually

  • a scale if thats how you want to play it

  • no, you're wrong.. An arpeggio is a broken chord! it can be an A minor, a major, Bb7minor, whatever. but you take the chord and play the notes each one at a time so camaflashstudio is right.

  • It's a broken chord it's not totally a scale it's playing the notes between the chord as well making them flow or at least thats what i learned

  • I notice that if you take out the root note, to make it a 3-note arpeggio, you got a natural major progression; i.e. from the C minor 7 you'd get Eb major. That's some cool stuff.

I can't understand how everybody doesn't find music theory fascinating!

  • i want to learn it but have no fucking clue how or wut all this shit is...it gets me so fucking frustrated...any suggestion

  • Start basic. Take a look at the modes, and things like intervals (the relationship between two notes) e.g. the 2nd, min3rd, maj3rd, 4th, 5th, min6th, maj6th, min7th, maj7th intervals (to name the ones in the natural major/minor scales).

I've been teaching myself all about it for about a year now.Once you start getting the hang of it then your knowledge will build up quite quickly. So yeah, check out the modes first of all, I think.

  • learning the above on a piano as well is also very helpful as all the notes are laid out right in front of you

  • Had hangover?

  • its aaa aaa

  • It seems that he's about to cry at any moment. Nice lesson anyway.

  • Holy crap its raymonds brother!

  • oh my god... dontt look so happy...

  • great video helped me out and helped out my playing another step thanks

  • people with negative things to say should really just move on because this guy is doing musicians a favor and teaching some guitar skills...geesh

  • 2.29

  • his lessons are really good, he just needs to tab that arpeggio for us because its really hard to pick out the notes he's playing coz he's playing it quite fast

  • just sound it out, if you can't figure out the notes by ear you may need a little more practice with scales and stuff

  • you like synyster gates or something?

  • well done sherlock lol

  • lol yeah he's my favorite guitarist

  • Ahh same =D hi5,,,,, him n dimebag are my two favourites

  • my 2 favorties are him and Daron Malakian.

  • love to daron

  • well he tells you all the notes he is playing. i guess thats a problem if you dont know your notes, but they arent too difficult to learn.

  • why is that a problem? we can see and hear what he's playing, copying should be no problem unless you're deaf and blind lol. this guy is one of the best contributors to youtube and guitarists at large... rock on good teacher

  • that was a reply to synysterjmz, cause he said he should tab this lesson out. he doesnt need to tab it out cause he tells you the notes. its just a problem for people that dont know their notes.

  • your absolutely right

  • great david ,very good guy

  • Your Great!

  • one fo the better lessons on you tube

  • great! thanks David

  • Thanks for the Lesson David....

  • sorry for being stupid but what is apreggio?

  • notes of a chord played seperately

  • Thx;)

  • we are good people, you are good man:)

  • cool stuff, ill have fun with it

  • thank you i enjoyed that

  • Im not a fan of shredding up and down.. but i wanna know who uses arpeggios in jazz/blues/rock/pop music.. anyone know?

  • just experiment around. many times in a rhythm the guitar is just playing an arpeggio of the chord as opposed to simply strumming. also try using it in soloes as a lead up to your starting note like, half a bar before you start it. mainly just experiment around, theres no right and wrong in music

  • For jazz look at jody fisher

  • You look tired -.-

  • Yeah this is a good arrpegio to mix in with Dm7 Am7 and G chords

  • man you are good.... respect!!

  • about soloing, instead of thinking modes, isn't it better to think about the specific scale degrees (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) and how they sound against the chords behind them? each note has a different amount of dissonance and a good melody would try to mix in different intervals, play with rhythmic motifs, etc...

  • stop at 0:36 and play 10 times then you get it xD

  • damn... it seems that every single man on earth have a longer pinky than mine
