This song was written by Harold Boulton, to an existing tune called My Wife is Sick (No. 509 in The Complete Collection of Irish Music, Stanford-Petrie, 1903-5). He went on to write the 'Skye Boat Song' and was duly Knighted for his efforts.

You have a lovely voice. I first heard the Clancy Brothers version of this, which is the "proper" one to my ears... I used to play it to put myself to sleep in college. Today, I sing it to my young kids as a lullabye, but not nearly as well as you do.
