  • Very well stated., thank you sincerley for your contribution. AP Chauffeur1

  • The horrendous losses suffered by the USSR in WW2 are in no small part due to the military incapacity of the dictator Stalin and his failure to accept reality. Even by late 1942 when he was clearly listening to people who knew better than he, they too showed incredible brutality. The amount of dead lost in Zhukov's pointless attacks has never been revealed.

Nonetheless the counter attack which led to the encirclement of the the Nazi forces here is the best allied tactical victory.

  • @alanheath: WOW! You're one of the few that I've run across that "get's it" that the Soviet/Russian people only were able to beat the verminscum of the nazis through the most costliest of costs: their lives......BECAUSE of scum stalin.....

  • @lukebccb I do not understand what you have written but I believe that the losses were so great because of Stalin who was as militarily incapable as Hitler. Without his interference then losses would have been much less.

  • She is emmense and quite beautiful!

  • R.I.P dead soldiers

  • OMG!!! This video is fantastic!!!! imponent!! the Russian National Anthem is just amazing...so powerful with the images of the Rodina statue. Russian people must be very proud of their history, culture and heritage.

  • @mams14 Pleased that you like what you saw & heard

  • only by visiting the Mamayev and the Panorama can you appreciate the heroism of the Red Army at Stalingrad. Rest in peace, you served your country and the world with great bravery

  • very moving.....thank you for posting this

  • @robbopaloobop and thank YOU for your response...it was a privilage to do so...good luck

  • @Chauffeur1

    you're most welcome, my friend...

my grandmother emigrated to the United States early last century from Russia. She always kept her homeland close to her heart. My dream is to visit someday.

    Best of luck to you

  • Goodbye grandfather R.I.P. Григорий Пристман- he died a general and shook Stalins hand

  • @doulikepanckakes

    My respect to you both...

  • 08-09 august of 2011.

    I´ll be there.

    Yuri, from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

  • R.I.P our great grandfathers our soldiers our fathers i will never forget about you god bless you for your fight for your life and freedom of CCCP USSR i am writing this in tears.

  • awesome thank you ,Mr.Phillips!

  • where the russians saved the world from hitler and his kapitalist backers

  • must come to stalingrad some day

  • thats a big bitch

  • Awesome, just awesome!!!! I'm hipnotized by the Mother Russia Statue,

  • @durden29

Your response is typical of visitors who see the Video content for the first time....good luck to you..remember the name ...RODINA...............

  • @durden29 i am either! the statue is...im speechless!

  • It alas ., is a statement of fact ....and there are many Countries and regimes who could look into their archives and not feel pleased........with reference to your other comment it is more ...imo...about who won the peace ...not sure at moment...are you ???

  • @Chauffeur1

Thank you very much ,Mr PHILLIPS for presenting this! I`m a very proud Russian who`s lived in USA for 20 yrs. I saw the statue in 1987, her toe is about 3 feet long. No pictures can convey the sheer size or the emotional impact of seeing her live. Needless to say, a true Russian struggles not to cry when seeing her:)

The gutless Khruschev changed the glorious name of Stalingrad into Volgograd while the French still have a Stalingrad blvd/Stalingrad subway station in Paris.

  • @schroederdevrient

Thank you very much for your contribution...quite why Kruschev changed the name remains a mystery.. For sure I can understand you being proud of your Country.....as a sportsman I anticipate more awareness of Mother Russia as they become the face of the sporting World in the next decade..Good Luck.

  • @Chauffeur1

Russia has a monument to US and UK WW2 soldiers but neither US or UK have a monument to Russian soldiers. Cold war is no excuse for trying to put the ones who saved the world from the brown plague into the memory hole. It`s also futile because the heroism of such magnitude will never be forgotten.

Khruschev was in blood up to the ears and in order to cover up his own crimes that include poisoning Stalin, he invented all the lies about him,the "millions killed by him" etc.

  • @schroederdevrient

I have to state that I was + Made Aware of This Fact + by numerous Russian folk during my visits to Volgograd... I was in my own way proud to state that there is a knowledgeable and factual tribute to the Soviet Union being displayed at our COLD WAR MUSEUM at Cosford in my home County of Shropshire.

People of my age grew up with * The Threat of The Bear * being aired ...incorrectly

  • and even the Germans were killing our children, raping women, for four years, we have every right to kill all the Germans, on arrival in Germany, but the punishment of the Russian army in Germany are not comparable with what the Germans did in Russia

  • The American Lend-Lease

    RUSSIAN pay in gold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We buy from the Americans HELP

IN 1944 the German Army had 250 divisions to the eastern front !!!!!!!!!!

the invasion of the Anglo-Americans in France, in Normandy, the Germans on the Western Front fought 20 divisions !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

250 = 20 who will win this WAR?

  • that statue is much more impresive and beatifull than the one in USA

  • Chris... thanks for the info. I'm sure it'll be big news if it comes crashing down. The scale of this thing is kind of scary. I can imagine the kind of horrific mess it would make.

  • @notredamehesamighty If it does come crashing down... just make sure you're not the poor dude or dudette who is standing where the TIP OF VICTORY lands:)

"Got a impalin from a statue from Stalin"

  • Whats the song called Allan is sounds amazing?

  • @ajg5

Hi , I have not been able to monitor the site for the past few months due to being hospitalised through a collapsed lung......

I hope to clarify the responses in a week or so notw I have returned to my home to continue recovery...Allan P

  • @Chauffeur1

hey no hurry, get well soon.

    ajg5

  • Inspiring.

  • this song is in cod4 too :D

  • @15Clan Yeah because it's USSR/Russian anthem.

  • My understanding is that this massive statue is slowly moving off it's pedestal. Apparently the engineers who erected it did not anchor it down, relying on it's natural massive weight to keep it in place.

I would be interested to know if this is the case, and if so, what is being done to prevent it from eventually collapsing. If anyone has other details or reliable information, it would be great if you could post it.

  • @notredamehesamighty according to what I read on the BBC news website, rising water levels are causing the foundations of the memorial to subside. the statue is perilously close to toppling over. The local security services have been quoted as saying that money provided by the government in the past to restore the statue to its rightful position was stolen. I dont know if the area has been sealed off.

  • It`s not "Mother Russia"!!!! Shit...why u writing this?... It`s wrong name.

  • Beautiful, touching and moving. Thanks a lot for posting. Hope I can visit Volgograd soon.

  • All these comments below. I noticed Russians have no respect for their enemy. Even 65 years later they say "Nazi Scum". And saying Russia did most to defeat Germany, well how many planes and trucks did USA lend to Russia? How much fucking spam for food? Or do they not add that in your history books? Russia saved themselves. USA/UK cleared Africa, Italy, and all Western Europe, without the Navy and Marines and were bombing German supplies/ industry as early as '42.... You're welcome....

  • @pen24 how would your feel if a foreign army invades and kills your family and friends? The USSR was responsible for around 80% of nazi losses, men & equipment, according to western historians. The bloodiest battles took place on the eastern front where the nazis deployed the majority and it's best divisions. With no foreign aid the war would have lasted 1 more year, read western sources at least. The allies bought victory with Russian blood, W. Churchill.

  • @ormaya1

I read books from the west and the east buddy. Stalin wouldn't of asked for a western front if he didn't need it because remember how much it took for the US to enter the war in Europe. And the only reason why there was "Russian Blood" because all the Russians did was charge, they didn't give a fuck about human life. Period. And 80% my ass. And 1 more year my ass. Hitler had to pull SS divisions to face the Western allies. Fact.

  • @pen24 oh yeah? which books? As for respect for the nazi cowards very successful agaist unarmed civilians, please, or you think you can tell people how to feel after fallen victims of a war of agression and annihilation. 1st experence what the Russians did under the nazis and then tell us if the deserve respect.

  • @ormaya1

Don't even start with civilians because every civilian was scared of the red army because they knew they would get raped and shot. Don't start with that bullshit you know DAMN well if you knew your head from your ass concerning WWII. And one of the books is by Vasily Grossman if you know.. And read the memoir of Col. Von Luck and see how Germans treated the Russian civilians ..if you're not too IGNORANT enough to believe it..

  • We nearly won... R.I.P. Grandfather!

  • Germans were worthy opponents. Sad you had to lose the might of Mother Russia. Had you gone west instead, the world might be very different today.

  • WOW this is so buiteful...

  • higher as the eiffeltower

  • No one of decency would wish either Volgorad ( Stalingrad ) or the City of Coventry the horrors they received thanks to the Nazi's.. what is more visible though is the tremendous " Rebuilding " that took place post 1945......this continues on the eve of 2010 despite the economic traumas.

I invite you to respond and not be so " aggresive "

  • Comment removed

  • It did cross my mind that you were hinting at a " Joke "..thanks for your response..it's just that Coventry's WW2 Blitzing has just been regularly covered on our local TV highlighting the Horror of the bombing it received....

Ironicly the local Baginton Airfield ( Coventry Airport ) has just gone into receivership and closed down due to lack of planning permission for a new Terminal Building..

Its closure has cost many job losses Happy New Year

    AP

  • I like the determination on her face. You can really tell she's shouting: "Together, we shall repel the nazi scum out of the country!"

Meanwhile, somewhere in the lowest depths of hell, Hitler is weeping...

  • It was - 28 degrees when I began taking the pictures..

Even so I did ponder on similar thoughts at the time...Awe inspiring in the real sense of the word.

  • @amazingdany your scum

  • dfmhyjdmd

  • Are you telling me that the Russian " Giant " was defeated in the Boxing Match ??...or is it your version of " Type Writer Keys " ?? a s d f , l k j ???

  • remarkeble this vid

    Love monuments like this.

  • It means just as much to me when I read your response to my compilation , thank you very much and good luck in your quest of life.

    AP

  • Mother Russia v.s Statue of Liberty

  • Unusual " connection "...it's almost as though your compare The Eiffel Tower in Paris with Blackpool Tower

    No Contest really....... i m o

  • different meanings. I like both statues, why the comparisons? You as US citizen must have all thats good in the world. I totally disagree.

  • This is the greatest statue in the world.

  • Daunting to state the Least......

  • Very stirring stuff.I've always thought the Russian national anthem was one of the best.Putin brought it back after Yeltsin scrapped it.

Few people in the west know that 20 million Russians died in WW2.The statue is a magnificent memorial to them.Stalingrad was the turning point of the war. After that it was all downhill for the Nazis.

  • Thank you Joe for responding to the collage..

Fate has a strange way in our lives...I have just this evening returned a " A Great Grand Daughter "

of a fallen Stalingrad combatant to Weston Park Stately Home , her residence ahead of her Wedding to a Moscow based Englishman.

Every one was spell bound when she told her guests exactly what you have referred too..

  • As you will see I have respected your observation and point of view......my text remains as is..

I agree that the female version of the Hymn is " Better "

  • да красиво в нашем волгограде!!!

    гордость...а история....

  • look at her face and you will see that the country need your help

    follow her lead!

greatest and most expressive statue I've ever seen

  • I totally agree that the Statue is very very impressive and awe inspiring..I was lucky to be at the complex 3 times during 2008 and hope one day to return to Volgograd.

Not quite sure why you feel Russia needs our help ??? but given the opportunity working with her could be far more rewarding for all concerned... than not working together in my oppinion. ......

  • just personal feeling^_^

I like and read much about Russian military history and I also like Russian military music

  • Enjoy your Visit...especially if you are there in June or July...the floral display is equaly spectacular.....

Rodina " Mother Russia " has been recently used by a "erent" Advertsing Agency to promote a comercial product...it has caused a few " Words of Discontent " by the powers that be who object that a national treasure is being used in this way.

There has also been a picture of Prime Minister Putin " splashing about " during his holiday broadcast on British Television

  • I'm visiting Volgograd next summer and these pictures are so amazing. I cannot wait to see Mother Russia from up close. If my pictures are half as good as yours I will be lucky.

  • que gigantesco

  • Великие люди, Великие победы.

    Thanks fo this movi

  • It was a privilage to compile it , especially as here in July 2009 Russian & the Ukrainain military expertise may well be assisting the British Helicopter requirements in the Afghanistan conflict.

Allies in action in the 21st Century ??

  • These men fought for the survival of their country and its people. The communist leaders realized that and that is why they choose the concept of ''Rodina''(Mother Russia) as a symbol to commemorate this battle. Nothing ''epic'' about that though; it was brutal, bloody and VERY nasty.

Stalingrad was Hitlers Gettysburg / Verdun and WW2 was won here !

The whole world is greatly indebted to the Russian people.

  • Very well put Helmut....

Thank you for your contribution and opinion...good luck

    AP

  • it is true that many people take russias part in the war less serrious than is needed, but you have to give credit to every country that fought the evil in the war.

  • Agreed.

  • Under her feet, 10,000 of her sons are buried, with their names inscribed on the rotunda's walls.

  • as an aside , during my visit to LAVIDIA PALACE in May I spoke to one of the Stalingrad combatants ( 86 years old )

He was just a youth then and re-told of his meeting with Kruchev who seemingly was amongst the countless " dignitaries " who attended the YALTA Conference in 1945 famed of course because Stalin, Roosevelt & Churchill were the main leaders in attendance.

  • It's so epic you almost burst into tears.

  • I have to admit there were many times the emotions kicked in during my visits to the complex....further to your comments about the inscriptions inside the rotunda there is a fleeting glimpse of the walls in the Video...

The sun prevented me filming through the " hole " in the roof , otherwise Mother Russia's face would have been viewed from within.....

    Good Luck

    AP

  • Divine & Alexandar....Tut Tut Boys......I will always defend your right to have freedom of speech but shade's of Kindergarden seem to be in your thought pattern's...enough now !... how about saying your sorry's to each other and agree to disagree......

    AP

  • Thank you for your kind words, mr shining ass. I had a good laugh. Please, continue..

  • No, i'm a historian and i know very much about those things, it's a truth. And my ancestor have fought in all those wars. I also love Russia - but communism is not a good ideology for many reasons. But ok, this is not a right place for talk. Cheers!

  • Historian my....shiny ass, dickhead. Don't forget the communist had led Vietnam and Russia to freedom

Know very much like that? Shithead

  • Only the Communism could will rally millions people, simple people, instead of bankers and shopkeepers...

    I am not right???

  • AleksandarGv83, You are dilettante. You know Russia from stupid games "Call of Duty" and stupid american movies full of stereotypes.

    From Russia with respect.

  • Yes! Long live Lenin as well as the communist!

But...I'm a gamer and Call of Duty is not stupid o.O

  • You*re stupied american Pindos.

We*re talking about War, not Communism.

The fact is that russian soldiers made the majorist contribution to win a victory of World War II.

And It*s silly and ungratefully to deny it.

U.S. still engages in competition with Russia.

But we stopped "Cold War" and you (or rather your government) not.

And i think that your fuckin sham democracy is evil.

  • Im not russian nor american. Stop fighting because you two can get ugly. Believe me, my country was at war because the cold war and that isnt funny. As to who defeated the nazis... well i think the russians did, but very costly. The british and americans where more efficient, and suffered less casualties.

  • Great country!

  • hello the Video is great!!!

    Mother Russia Rockz!!!

Workers of the world, unite! (Karl Marx)

    nice gretas from germany :-)

  • Long live the communist mother Land !

Workes of the world Unite !

    Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь !

  • my grand dad is a sculptor in russia =)

  • Awesome post, truely one of the most impressive statues in the world. If I remember reading correctly, the flowing part of Her cape alone is something like twelve tons.

  • Impresive to state the least when viewing for the Tupolov above..but truly massive

at ground leval even in the cold cold - 28 ofFebruary & March of 2008 .

    Even better in June

  • Best anthem in the world!Slava Russia! Respect for Stalingrad saga!

  • Long live mother RUSSIA!!!!

  • Russian/Greek Heritage - Proud to be

  • The World could still be a better place, that is for sure it seems to be conflice time every were ??

  • The USSR was one of the great achievements of mankind. I think Russia is one of the worlds most beautiful countries.

    Humanity was saved at Stalingrad.

  • Yep, I totally agree with you.

  • I am aware of the atrocities of war..sadly it continues around the world in the 21st Century....we can all hope that peace one day arrives in civilisation...but history has a way of repeating itself...like it or not.....

Try keeping your emotions in house...swearing has been known to erupt into.... Conflict at all levals....OK ?

  • I hate the Nazi's of that period, 'but' their military supply lines were winter-damped. They had no equipment for winter. AND (you russians reading this) the U.S., Canada and Britain WERE draining German resources, men and materials. It was not 'just' russian soldiers and Zhukov that won the war!!! ALL the allies - and a big fat Russian winter!! - "made the fall of brute Nazi's" that much quicker. Lend lease gave gazillions of tanks, Ford trucks (on and on). God bless russia (cont.)

  • Im from norway, even though i love russia as the country it is. My honor goes to the Red army and their effort for Defending their country and driving the nazis back.

Long Live Russia and the Motherland!

  • Be Proud...

  • Вечна слава мајци Русији!!!

  • omg i see it again and again and again, and i dont stop...

The best of videos i have see5/555555555555555555555555555555

  • Nor do I......Beautiful song and that statue is magnificent!

  • for the MOTHER LAND!! soviet 4 ever

  • As long as stability prevails for us all.....

  • I am of Brazil. My honor to the soldiers who had defended Stalingrado with bravery. They are not heroes only of its country, but yes of all the humanity.

  • OBRIGAD Marco...

Your comments are well received by myself and other viewers ffrom around the World.

Good Luck to you in Brazil (Please send some warmer weather up to us in the UK and further east)

  • Long Live Russia and its heroic history.

  • Perhaps Bob your comment will one day be recognised by many more people

  • Tremendous Memorial, a great tribute to all those brave men and women who were killed at Stalingrad in defense of the Motherland.

Russia saved the World at Stalingrad. We should never forget those who died to make our freedom possible.

  • Very moving. The mother of all modern battles. I think you need to go all the way back to Genghis Khan to see slaughter on this scale. My grandfather fought as a young man on the second front about 100 miles n/e of Moscow, but he always said that Stalingrad was the decisive battle of WWI. Respect.

  • Thank you Neil,

  • Small note: You mean WWII.

Yes, it was an incredible battle, and it's amazing how many of us in the West haven't heard about it.

  • Comment removed

  • MAGNIFICENT! Wish I could go there. Soo much history.

God Bless ALL who died there!

  • Agreed

  • I remember that song from CoD4... it's good to hear the full version.

  • This "song" is a national anthem of Russia:) It has the same music as national anthem of USSR, but with altered lyrics.

  • The hymn is a daunting masterpiece of music and irrespective of how the words have altered slightly (I am informed) it remains a classic of my life time....

Let us hope that it continues to be hearalded as the pride of the Russian People and the West realise it is not a message of "Threat"..it remains my belief that the propaganda we so often face becomes more genial for all of us...have a Happy 2009 and good luck.

  • thank you... it's wonderful!

  • Compared to Stalingrad, every other battle in human history pales. Both sides fought ferociously, and the losses staggered both the Soviets and the Axis. Having met both German and Russian vets, I have to say that I admire the common soldiers of both sides: few in history can bear such testimony to those of us who were spared the experience as to the horror of modern warfare.

  • Agree Ben...thank you for your input..take care....

  • Good photos! Too bad you visited this site during winter and not during summer when Mamaev Kurgan is at its best. The amazing 'pictures' that are being laid with flowers to honor the fallen ones are truely spectacular!

  • Thank you, I was there again in June, the remains of more fallen were laid to rest during this visit with full military honours.

The flowers were resplendent, your Rodina comment I understand..it is well documented on the Web.

  • My knowledge of the 1930's famine that cost so many lives in Russia along the Volga region and the Ukraine was also very much in my mind whilst at the Mamaev Kurgan....the reality is that the Nazi invasion and the Axis re-group did cost so mant lives...but seemingly millions more starved less than a decade before Stalingrad....

Nature is for ever more powerfull.

  • The governments of the world are all corrupt, don't follow them and their propaganda my friend. The people of the world are all the same, we love our families, our friends and our neighbors. Good luck in finding the truth, best wishes to you and yours from America.

    Good karma too you...

  • Karma Karma..too you also...Our private correspondence I think answers my feelings on your subject and of course other's...Take care and good Luck..

  • Oh. Thanks.

    You*re quite right.

I cant name american our friends, but the main reason is sure politic or rather activity of some mmbs of government.

They wanted to split us and make feel anger to each other.

    I sure it*s impossible.

  • Muchas Gracias Hombre...Thank you for your comments which will be read & understood irrespective of most readers native tongue

Well Done Espana in winning the Euro Chapionship...Mue Bueno

  • Through Lend Lease, the USA supplied Russia with 78000 jeeps, 151000 light trucks, 200000 army trucks, 56% of Russia's rails, 11000 railway cars, 57% of aviation fuel, 53% of explosives, 48% of copper, 43% of aluminium, 45% of rubber tyres, 35000 radio stations, 380000 field telephones, 1 million mile of telephone cable. Stalin, Krushchev and Zhukov are all on record (tapes) that lend lease had been vital for Russian survival in 1941-1943. Of all the lend lease given, 50% was food (mainly spam).

  • Thank you Mark, this had not escaped my knowledge, however having spent most of my life "paying back" sic., the UK's Lend Lease debt I wonder if Russia ever cleared their debt to America ???

The main thing is that both Countries were "Allies" in WW2 let us all hope and pray that they remain Allies and prevent a WW3...

    Good Luck to you.

    AP

  • Thank you also, it was a pleasure and indeed a great privilage to have been able to present it.

I assume Kaliningrad is your "base" ?

  • Thank you for fascinating video!

  • Я немецкий и в школе я научился шест лэт русский язык. А я бољшэ не очэњ хорошо говорю и понимаю. Мне 28 лет.

Sorry for my very bad Russian. It is meant to be „I am German and I've learned Russian for six years in school. But today I don't speak and understand it very good an longer. I am 28 years old."

However... thanks to all allied soldiers who fought in WW2 and helped liberating the world from the most hellish devils ever and allowing me to live in freedom today.

  • Danke,

I think those of us who had our father's et al in the conflict can be forever gratefull to them, irrespective of whose side they were on all suffered beyond belief...it is my hope tht we no longer have history repeating itself,

    Good Luck

  • You are correct and memories to savour for the rest of my life

  • I love it..

  • That red brick building was not a Flour factory. It was Pavlovs house, a dormitory for a small school when the Germans attacked it became a fortress when a guy named Pavlov and his men hunkered down there and held out the whole battle against daily German attacks.
