I hit the button too soon. I meant to finish and say it sounded much richer and warmer in the house. recording can never match the live performance. this performance is etched in my mind forever, it was glorious. A thrilling performance. Terfel was outstanding.

@idleruler I'd say the performance was mediocre. It was not outstanding, but not unbearable. Quite enjoyable, actually. Only that Racette was the best of the cast, Kaufmann sang always in the same tormented manner and Terfel failed to hit some very nice high notes, were his voice was just rough instead of nice. I like Terfel very much, he was great within the second Act and the 'Te Deum', but still. Some notes he failed to deliver.
@LordMgls Ah yes, that's what I'd rate it, too! It was a good performance, but there was something missing to make it 100% perfekt! :-))
Thanks for the date, I'll listen to Armida! There were so many advertisings concerning this new opera with Renee Fleming (?) that I have to listen to it! :-)
@LordMgls "Yes, I've had a surgery due to my poor technique, No, I'm not working on that problem, I'll continue singing and starring Opera casting shows like my colleagues." ;-))
@LordMgls No one xD But Kaufmann wouldn't go to the reporters and say that, would he? He probably didn't even went to public and said "I'll have a surgery" but newspapers or some reporters simply found out that he had/has a surgery and they wrote that.
Hihi, I had the pleasure of listening to this broadcast, and I must say, that I am absolutely not pleased with Kaufmann. He's too cold, too throaty and seems to struggle with this role. All in all, the broadcast was nice, especially Patricia Racette, Bryn Terfel was not at his best, although his Te Deum and most of the second Act was quite good.
@LordMgls Yes, I do think now, as you've mentioned it, that he could be actually a baritone... I mean, take a look at Domingo singing Boccanegra now... And Kaufmann has a natural dark timbre. Not very tenorish! ;-)
@LordMgls Oh, well, I won't mind since I don't think that his voice suits Cavaradossi. He reminds me a lot of Villazon who has a lot of technical problems (in my opinion), I think Kaufmann doesn't sing with a proper technique as well. La Scala fancies oneself, but (for instance) booing at Domingo after Boccanegra is simply not fair. I don't like the fact that La Scala believes they are still the only remarkable opera house in Europe. xD
Did they??!! Frustrated musicians: that's the problem.
La Scala has a lot of professional critics. That's why they think to me the best. Pseudo intellectual would be the word.
Villazón will remain a tenor for much longer than Kaufmann.... But his technique problems are far worse. He tries to sing how Plácido does. But he does not succeed, LOL
@LordMgls I've heard once that he's (Villazon) pretending to sing like Corelli (or one of those big Tenors, whilst not having the voice), I agree with you on his technical problems, he's cracking very often, just had a surgery... well. Kaufmann hasn't had these problems - yet - let's see what the future brings.
Pseudo intellectual sounds quite suitable. I don't say that La Scala is nothing, but it isn't all. And Domingo was singing only a few months after his surgery.
@LordMgls He had a surgery?! I didn't know that. Well, then I think even worse of his technique. It may be true that he is a good singer... in other roles... but certainly not a good Cavaradossi. His 'Vittoria' though, was quite good, I must admit that. But in Act 1 he already sounds like he's singing the 'lucevan', very tormented and... well.
You mean the 2nd act voice-killing cry? That was exactly the time that I was searching for something to make my radio to get an audible sound. Yet, I remember to have heard the following moment till Cavaradossi was taken.
If he ever gets is voice uncovered (for example in line with his "i" vowel, it will be gorgeous.

@idleruler Terfel outstanding?
I wouldn't say that, but the idead I got through radio was that he had some problems in dealing with baritonal Kaufmann lol :-P

@ElisabettaVS For me, it is clearly a 17/20 with a baritone playing a tenor role lol
I wouldn't buy this. What about this saturday? We've got Arminda with Renée!
LordMgls 1 year ago
@LordMgls Haha, did someone mark my comment as spam? Ridiculous, but... oh well.
What is a 17/20?
Which saturday? Saturday, May the 1st? Is it a radio broadcast, again? I'd love to listen!

@ElisabettaVS 17/20=85%

What an amazing voice. Just when you think it's getting a little heavy, he pulls off the high notes gloriously.

ElisabettaVS and LordMgis must have had a brain surgery... not a big success as it seems...

wtf??

@bpb71 What exactly do you mean?

Kaufmann sang like a dream and will be one of THE voices of this generation. I anxiously await his Siegmund at the Met next year.

As a baritone. With the throat operations he has already had.... he won't be able to have a much longer carrer considered as a tenor.
LordMgls 1 year ago
@LordMgls Jonas kaufmann hasn't had any throat operations. I believe you mean Rolando Villazon.
pfeliks 1 year ago
I was told they both had. But actually don't find anything about that.

@LordMgls Of course they wouldn't necessarily want everybody to know that! xD

It would be very nice to say that in public... I didn't notice that 'due to my poor technique' loool

The problem is that sooner or later, he will go to la Scala and instead of getting applauded, he will get booed :-S

Corelli is like Kaufmann + José Cura (stupid equation by me)
