@peinscoot No, these are not interchangeable, your motherboard will only support the one type it was designed for , in your case just DDR, so you must upgrade it with DDR ram. DDR2 or DDR3 will not work

sometimes it might work, depending on your motherboard. if you are trying to mix types of ram, you should put the same kinds on the same channel, if your motherboard has multiple channels (different colored slots)

i have a problem so i put in new ram but it wont show on my computer its not even in use... why is this??? the ram stick i got its exactly same!!! same speed make model same everything... i did not unplugged my pc i shut it down, was i suppossed to disconnect everything???

if both sticks of ram work by them self, then the ram itself is fine. the reason your new ram may not be detected is because it is more that your motherboard can support. this is especially true for older computers, that sometime can only support up to 1gb. i would suggest getting some more information about your computer, and see if you are exceeding the maximum amount of ram your motherboard can support. hope this helps

ahhh this is my motherboard esc elitegroup gf8200a black series

and it supports 8 gigs of ram...

i just found out why it was not working...

i used the run command then msconfig

then boot settings > advance> then selected max ram and it was my previous max capacity thats why it would not work

until i unchecked that buttonand restarted my pc :)

a good place to look would be at like bestbuy, and someone there could help you find what you need. if you want to just order it online, then i would suggest using tigerdirect or newegg (both are websites). since there are many types of ddr ram, make sure you have a stick of it from your computer to refer to when you either go to the store or when you are looking for some online. good luck =)

well if it is a laptop, there will be a cover on the bottom you need to take off to get to the ram. on a desktop, adding ram should be similar to how i did it in my video. and thanks =D

quick random question....for hardcore pc gaming, is it better to have a desktop computer rather a laptop for hardcore gaming?

A desktop would be better, since a laptop just doesn't have the power of a good desktop. also, as a desktop gets older, it is easy to keep upgrading components, where as a laptop would be very difficult, if possible to get any upgrades for besides the ram.

As long as you know what type of ram your computer takes, then it is not necessay to remove the old stick. If however you don't know what kind of ram your computer takes, then you will need to remove the old stick for reference.

Do you know if there is any reason that my ram would make programs run slower? i had 512 mb fist and now I have 2gb, I bought the new ram to help out video game performance, and now games run even worse than before.

i really cant think of an obvious reason why this would happen. you should make sure the ram is the right type, and is seated well into the ram slot. you can also see is the ram is being recognized by your computer if you got to the start menu, right click on my computer, and click properties. if it is telling you you only have 512mb, then the ram is the wrong kind, not inserted correctly, or the ram is defective.

Yes, it is very important that the memory is the same type. If it is not, it will not work. Be absolutly sure that the memory is of the same type before putting it in another computer, since there are many different types of ram. If you want to, I can check to see if the ram will work if you send me the model numbers off the two computers.
