Looked fantastic. Fast forward scenes were great, love the moving mid close shot where you held the tripod in your hand. I'm gonna try doing that. Badass movie.
your fast forward scenes.. at least the first one dont have enough going on... like him just sitting at a desk? the other ones were good. I liked the cigarette.
Then the drug montages with the noise. He would never interrupt the song. It either dies out before the montage or starts after.
The POV was done well. Did you just carry the tripod? or actually make a harness?
It seemed more like a tribute to just Requiem, which is fine, it's a fine film of his, the black and white was probably a nod to pie. I didn't see any of the fountain in there though.
the thing about aronofsky, in my opinion, is that all of his movies are so different, and I don't think he has one style. He's the best living director because he brings something new, and heavy to every film of his.
Anyways it was a great tribute, but I think you focused too much on Requiem.
You seemed to grasp some of the techniques Aronofsky uses... a few of the techniques you tried to mimic were a little lackluster but thats to be expected... overall its more than most people could do!
Love he lighting on the secuence on 3:38, the whole monocrome aspect to it. Have you seen anything by Miklós Jancsó? I bet you'd love him, "The Red and the White "
You did a really great job there, i'm quiet impressed :)! i'm curious, what studies r u doing??.. i'm in filmmaking aswell, and i used the film Pi for my case study, crazy how this film changed me and hwat i learned through it (in techniques of filmmaking) Darren is a legend! :)
im currently studying animation, i was going to study film but my budget didnt allow me. if you have the budget, i'd definately say go for it.:) and thank you very much
Brilliantly shot. You caught Aronofsky's style and made it your own. I'm impressed. I definitly think you should do Requiem for a Dream and the Fountain next.
To better emulate his style and his cinematographer Matthew Libatique, try checking out a back issue of American Cinematographer.
Nice compilation,I like it

And the lighting needed a bit of adjustment.
But overall good job.

i held a tripod in my hand, i found a good angle to keep it from being in shot.
it was a bit heavy, but it worked

Great cinematography. Matt Libetique would be proud. What did you use for a dolly for some of those shots?

Definitely pulled it off, if I even have to ask the question. =c)

I am absolutely stunned about the cinematography. did you put the camera on a tripod and then on the skateboard at 1:18 or how did you do it?
PissingInAction 4 years ago
thank you!
and yes, i set the camera on my tripod, and then on 2 skateboards. its a bit tricky at first, but it worked out eventually

And, he pulled it off without drilling into his head, also.
