@vmanbeatles - then why would George and Ringo play on 'How Do You Sleep' and other John songs (after they broke up) while staying well clear of Paul's material?
@raywdown You are right and aren't at the same time. John and Paul were very superior towards George and Ringo. George Martin supported that, even if it was unintentional. The difference between them was that John was more of an easy-going musician. Paul was a workaholic and he knew exactly what he wanted and he wouldn't rest until he achieved that. He wasn't easy to work with. Probably still isn't.
I can imagine Paul and John making fun of the way George writes music and the way he dresses, and about his hair, and a sad George walking away to write this song.
One of the Beatle's best songs. Way to go, George! VERY underrated song. I like the original version a little better, though. Especially the keyboard parts.
Everybody argues about what the song was about or why etc etc. But judging by this video in particular, I think The Beatles just took a lot of acid! lol
@bieberfever1171 how many years have the beatles been popular? 50. and 10 years from now, they will still be more popular than ever. But justin bieber, just like the jonas brothers did, will go out of style in a few years, and you'll never hear from him again. BEATLES FTW!!
George wasn't pleased at having to write a song for the movie (yellow submarine) and made his feelings clear on this track about the beatles' publishing company, Northern Songs.
George. The most underrated Beatle. I like songs done by Paul and John, but Geoge's songs are the songs that get stuck in your head because they are so damn catchy.
@jpsplat thats very true, he's underrated, but george is better than ringo in my opinion at creating music and enchanting the soul, ringo is goofy and brightens your day. but george's songs just fucking stick, this, something, if i needed someone, while my guitar gently weeps, As examples lol.
But as a true beatles fan i like every song ever made by them.

From what I've read, think they all got ripped off by "Northern Songs" management. Think George is giving voice to the collective view here. Lennon/McCartney owned 30% of the shares ~ hardly controlling. As Lennon said, they were merry little popsters at that time, not businessmen. John and Paul sold theirs for £3.5mill George and Ringo kept their paltry 1.6% of shares ~ wonder if they eventually came out tops in this respect?
another Beatle masterpiece, both George and Ringo were as equally important as the others even though they were only allowed a set number of songs per album...George was also very good at putting a obscure chords together and making it sound natural
@Dodo251 'northern songs 'is the name under which they published their songs, mostly lennon &mccartney, much to harrison's displeasure. and yes, coming from liverpool, it must point to their hometown.
@OV3RCOM3 someone told me that their producing cmpany of the time was northern songs and george got a very little cut of the royalt fees so he got mad and wrote this song
@ZBraun95 George Harrison wrote the song as a sort of jab at Northern Songs Ltd. The Publishers of all the Beatles songs at the time. He was not happy with the way the Company was putting unequal focus on Lennon/McCartney songs. He and Ringo would not renew their contract with Northern Songs Ltd. and each started their own Publishing Company in 1968.
@ZBraun95 Northern Songs was the publishing company for the Beatles songs... As Harrison's songs where always considered after Lennon/McCartney's , this was a way for him to say that it didn't matter what he could write as it was only going to be a Northern Song..
George wrote that because he was unhappy about Paul and John writing all the songs and rejecting his stuff. George's songs are licensed under "Northern Songs Inc." It's slightly angrier and more upset than it sounds.
@jerkbwh129 Where did he (or anyone else in the know) ever say that was the reason he wrote it? I've never read/heard that. He was griping about the publishing fiasco with this song.
@ZBraun95 Northern Songs Ltd. was the record label reaping the fruit before Apple. Hence the name Apple, actually. Harrison wrote this song in frustration as he owned only .8% (I believe) of the shares whereas John and Paul each owned something like 20%. The lyrics are mocking the fact that it hardly matters what he says or what chords he plays because it'll mostly end up in everyone else's pocket.
@ZBraun95 Someone probably said this already, if so I apologise, but Northern Songs was their production company up until the death of Brian Epstein, after which the Apple company was formed.
@ZBraun95 No, George Harrison was referring to the group that owned the Beatles copyrights back in the 60s. George: "(Only a Northern Song was) a joke relating to Liverpool, Holy City in the North of England. In addition the song was copyrighted to Northern Songs Ltd. which I didn't own"

(You see, the Beatles looked like an atomic symbol when they were spinning! Just as the purple monster synched with their ship, and they proceeded to depart from the Sea of Science, just as they entered the Sea of Monsters.) 53 MILES WEST OF VENUS 53 MILES WEST OF VENUS 53 MILES WEST OF VENUS 53 MILES WEST OF VENUS. The B-52's are better than God! As are the Beatles! Quite fantastic! They are also quite a bit less douche-y than Jesus.
This was actually recorded during the Sgt. Pepper sessions, and I think it would have fit nicely on Sgt. Pepper. Can't figure out why they would have left this out.
Harrison himself described the song as "a joke relating to Liverpool, Holy City in the North of England. In addition the song was copyrighted to Northern Songs Ltd. which I didn't own".[4]
This song was such a slap in the face to the Beatles' "publishing company". George Harrison could be such a bitter songwriter when he wanted to, as is also evident in "Taxman"
Even MORE fucking proof that this GROUP was/is and will ALWAYS be the greatest fucking band this or any other world will EVER create! From "I want to hold your hand" and "Yesterday" to "In my life" and so many others to "THIS" song from GEORGE no less, just goes to show EVERYONE how fucking versitile they were! All hail the Beatles!
@Heidibear76 No, you are once again wrong, Dumbo. 'fuck you' is 2 words, not A word. Learn to speak English and also some manners. You stupid fucking daft thick retarded cunt!!!!! :)))

This was actually recorded during the Sgt. Pepper sessions, and I think it would have fit nicely on Sgt. Pepper. Can't figure out why they would have left this out.

@HBOkidofThe80s no, it's not. from wiki-
Harrison himself described the song as "a joke relating to Liverpool, Holy City in the North of England. In addition the song was copyrighted to Northern Songs Ltd. which I didn't own".[4]

The first time that I saw this movie I had dreams that reminds to this part... I was a bit afraid because I was 6 years old...
But I love the Beatles and I love The Yellow Submarine !!

This song was such a slap in the face to the Beatles' "publishing company". George Harrison could be such a bitter songwriter when he wanted to, as is also evident in "Taxman"

I love this song. But really I could tell that the drumbeat is the same one from Strawberry Fields Forever.
