bouncing down the road in my raked 1950 ford cruising for chicks with my buddies, with sweets for my sweet blasting from the AM,it was great to be seventeen in 1961.thank you for sharing.
@businessman200823 And that's the other well-known Charlie Thomas lead, along with this and "When My Little GIrl Is Smiling"...not the biggest hits, but they certainly do stand out
The sad truth about radio nowadays, is that the music of the fifties and early sixties are being taken off the air by so-called radio consultants that consult radio stations in states they are not even in. Personally, I don't care any more since I have the records, not CD's. Nowadays, oldies radio stations are programming songs from the very late sixties and seventies. That age demographic of 25-54 according to the people who put out arbitron rating service.
@larrynealwaxmuseum you are soo right. I don't know what is happening, but if you want these timeless classics, you would have to subscribe to satellite radio. You know, it also says something about the culture when it comes to true music and art... I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, there used to be around four radio stations that featured music from the 1950s and 1960s. They were systematically bought out.
@nutothis1 Agreed...there really are no oldies stations in the LA area either. I love to fly JetBlue and listen to the 50's and 60's channels on Sirius/XM.
@Highland804 Next time I fly Jet Blue, I will check out those channels. I was in Austin, TX not too long ago. I rented a huyndai sante fe, equipped with satellite radio (and with great mileage). The oldies station was all I listened to. It is a shame that most of the radio stations - at least here in the Bay Area consists mostly of contemporary music and rap.
@Highland804 We have a fantastic station here in St. Louis. KZQZ 1430 am. They have streaming. Google it. They play top 40 from early/mid 50's to early 70s and even Dino and Frank and the like.
@Highland804 Glad you liked it. The revamped old jingles and old commercials are even great, and I love it when they play a song I haven't heard in decades.
You can't go wrong with any of the records by the drifters. Their 1962 recording of WHEN MY LITTLE GIRL IS SMILIN' is one of my all time favorite by them. In fact, when I bought that record as a kid, one of the few records I played over and over in my bedroom on my record player and almost wore the grooves out.

@larrynealwaxmuseum I love "When My Little Girl Is Smilin'" too; it should have been a huge hit and should be played on oldies radios nowadays. Someday, the REAL oldies will hopefully return to FM radio.
@VinylFullofSoul I agree with both of you...and I can't help noticing that both of those are among the rare Charlie Thomas lead vocals...they're among my very favorite Drifters sides...and this one is on my all-time top ten....always great to hear it...thanks
@VinylFullofSoul I wish that would happen, too...but I won't hold my breath. I had a rental car recently that had SiriusXM satellite radio, and I was in hog heaven! 50's on 5 and 60's on 6 are my favorites. All JetBlue flights have satellite radio, too. Great stuff!
Hey thanks for posting this classic, it is in my opinion one of The Drifters most under-rated songs of their musical catologue. You can feel the latin beat which makes it that more interesting and really popuilar. I raise my hat to you for posting and sharing this heck of a song!
Great song by a great group!!

I think there should be at least one or two radio stations playing music from the 50
s - 60's and 70's 24/7 on a Nationwide broadcast . I Bet they would get the Biggest Listening Audience of All the Other Stations Combined !
