great, was it an off camber turn?think the rpm was to low, power and tork came to powerfull in for this corner, wen the rpm is higher the risk is lower by less tork on the backweel, remember old times wen pilots keeping there bikes on high rpm by yanking everytime the shifting gaer, wen going to a corner
I did something like that, got too anxious and passed some 1 alittle too late and had to lean alittle too far for cold tires and sure enough down I go......I learned that my tires need more than 1 lap to warm up haha
wow yeah that wasnt too bad at least you lowsided instead of highsided and i bet your thinking the man came up with the idea for a leather motorcycle race suit mine was the best 700 i have ever spent
to much throttle to soon. lets all try to remember that most our bikes that have been converted to track bikes dont have the traction control systems that the pros have on there 100k dollar bikes. wait to crack that throttle.
The last time that I was at Thunderhill, I low sided in at the same exact turn. Can't remember if it was turn 10 or 11. Been a couple years. I figured my rear lifted since my lean was too much for that particular turn, and the rearsets might of got caught up. Good vid, nonetheless.
Depends on how cranked over you are. IMO i'd rather lose traction to the rear than the front. If you keep on the power you still have a chance of the bike grabbing traction again, when the front goes its a different story....
@not4resale true statement, the rear follows the front so if the front loses traction you've got nothing, rear losses traction at least you've got some control.
dont seem his fault tbh, possibly got on the power a tad to early, but just seems a change in surface. still im sure he survived and im sure the bike was repairable. as said.. could happen to anyone.
Looked like a change in track surface. He lost it right after coming off of the darker asphalt. The darker part of the pavement would be hotter and potentially have more grip; the difference would be negligible, but maybe enough to cause the tire to slip out under heavy acceleration.
@thereaperorsutch you REALLY dont get it. You are right in a way, if the rubber is very soft it will go into the grooves of a rough surface, but this will cause enormous tyre wear. Have you ever heard of slick tyres? Theyre completely smooth in order to ensure full contact with the road surface, without them wearing down on the most minute slip.
was my last comment, dont believe me yet? GO GOOGLE!
no he locked up the front brake which made him skid and when ur in that angle ur obviously gonna fall if he was to lock up his rear brakes it wouldve been alot more violent. what he did was a lowside. if u want to see what a highside looks like youtube it. in a highside what happens is when u lock up the rear brake it skids then grips again which causes to rider to "fling" off the bike
i know cause it almost happend to be a month back on a track day cause I chopped the throttle coming out of a double apex and almost have the back end come out on me

it seems like it could happen to anyone the best way would be is if ur bike has traction control always leave it on or never accelerate as fast as u can while turning
I got nothing but good things to say about this guy. Yeah, he wrecked, but it doesn't matter because he wasn't out being an idiot on the street. He wanted to ride fast, so he took it to the proper location (the track) and did the right thing. Props!
You know what...if you gotta crash, that's the way to do it. A gentle lowside and a bit of rash on the bike - no slamming impact. Doesn't look like you got hurt and that's what matters. Thanks for the vid.
Pretty good quailty vid, looks like some serious fun to run on the track days....Im afraid to go cause i know i'll get addicted and that shits expensive... Lowsides are pretty common though, bet you walked away just fine?
yup yup, neutral throttle. Lucky you were leaned pretty much to the max so it wen down fast and didn't have a chance of grabbing traction to transform this to a high side. . .
Notice your shift indicator, you bike shifted to 3rd gear at 1:38. . .after you "de-biked."
Glad you are OK. Nice to see you having some humor about it. Thanks for the video.
The way(s) to avoid low slides is #1 throttle control with good heated tires. #2 carry enough corner/entry speed that you don't need the brakes (that's why the 800cc motogp bikes are shattering the 1000cc motogp lap records corner speeds/lighter bikes). #3 the most important of all, "KNOW YOUR LIMITS". 3. thanks. I do like to push my supermoto to the limits but i dont want to bend it! nearly lost it the other day; hammerd open the throttle on the exit of a corner the front came down as i was still turning and had a mini tank slapper lol

I never let go of my bike during a near slide out or when I'm about to fall. I think if you let go of your bike its for sure your going to fall off and avoid geting hurt, but if you hag on and try to regain control then either 2 things will happen. 1: You gain control of your back and ride off. 2: you gain control of your bike only to find that there is a car or all in front of you. I've had both happen to me. Sucks sometime but at least you tried :p
The bike spins up as it goes over the change in tarmac (see the color change) but the way it spins around rather then slideing first makes me wonder if he had his weight to centered on the bike and had the rear tire loaded to much. But since we cant see how much he was hanging off we wont know :)
No, look at the pictures afterwards which are from that track day. Form is good. Nipple on gas cap and kissing the mirrors. (imaginary) IE: getting his weight to the inside and his head out of centerline where most lesser skilled riders keep it, only getting their asses off the bike.
I think he was simply at max lean and gave too much throttle. I believe the tarmac change played a roll in it. He was obviously trying to catch up with the other little pack and got a little "trigger happy."
I like to be able to come out of these things with an idea of what could've been done to avoid it; I don't see him doing anything wrong. Unavoidable? :\
like the other guy said, really could be a lot of things, slick spot on the track, gravel on the track, etc...or could be rider error; leaned over to far, grabbed to much throttle to early, etc.
sounds to me like he grabs the throttle while leaned way over and it just slips away from him, but I could be wrong.
Much respect, I breath of fresh air after watching all of the other pieces of Reagan's youth trashing good equipment on the street while endangering innocent sheeple.
Hehe we all been there =). Woulda been a lot worse if ya highsided eh, or it the guy knocked you off trying to get back past! er hmmm =) (see 'you jockeys' opps lol).
oh man! Great vid, cool to have the video footage and the stills. Not the "glory" footage you intended I'm sure, but informative for the rest of us. Thanks! Glad you and bike are OK.
Ouch dude. I'm always a bit more ginger than necessary 11 - 13. I've seen so many people spin up the rear and bin it there. Glad you're OK and the bike didn't tumble.

thereaperorsutch 2 years ago
You have no idea how stupid that sounds.
so why dont we just make the road out of rubber? lol
jacklyw 2 years ago
are you reterded ? smooth dry surfaces are the best, rougher asphalt means much more tyre use and bigger wounds if you do fall.
elvee88 2 years ago
ok then smooth means you will fall even before you sit on a motorcycle, and what is more logical, to spend few more tires than crash your motor?
thereaperorsutch 2 years ago
or to crash your motor
thereaperorsutch 2 years ago
the smoother the surface, the more rubber will be in contact with the surface, the more grip you'll get, ideal would be a DRY CLEAN rubber surface.
elvee88 2 years ago
@elvee88 ok then, the most smooth surface is glass. try to put some rubber on glass and see if it is better than lets sand paper?
thereaperorsutch 1 year ago
@thereaperorsutch a rubber tyre on dry glass wil obviously provide more grip than paper on sand. wth are you saying
elvee88 1 year ago
@elvee88 rubber is soft and it will go into the grooves on a rough surface, but on a more smother surface aka.glass, it will act slippery

but pavement did change i will give him that
rpaull3 3 years ago
No, look at the pictures afterwards which are from that track day. Form is good. Nipple on gas cap and kissing the mirrors. (imaginary) IE: getting his weight to the inside and his head out of centerline where most lesser skilled riders keep it, only getting their asses off the bike.
I think he was simply at max lean and gave too much throttle. I believe the tarmac change played a roll in it. He was obviously trying to catch up with the other little pack and got a little "trigger happy."

he made no mistake

Nice video. :)
What happened? I didn't see you doing anything obviously wrong, and suddenly you highside? o.o
saizai 4 years ago
could have been oil, greese, too much lean, getting hit in the visor by a stone... you name it
vectorm1299 4 years ago
that's not a high side, it's a low side. Frame sliders aren't going to do much in a high side crash.
go4long 4 years ago
Doh! You're right, my mistake.
Still, sudden unavoidable crashes are bad.
I like to be able to come out of these things with an idea of what could've been done to avoid it; I don't see him doing anything wrong. Unavoidable? :\
saizai 4 years ago
like the other guy said, really could be a lot of things, slick spot on the track, gravel on the track, etc...or could be rider error; leaned over to far, grabbed to much throttle to early, etc.
sounds to me like he grabs the throttle while leaned way over and it just slips away from him, but I could be wrong.
go4long 4 years ago
that was a low side bro.

Much respect, I breath of fresh air after watching all of the other pieces of Reagan's youth trashing good equipment on the street while endangering innocent sheeple.

I was lucky! Just ground up sliders. No broken parts. Only one bent shift lever. Foot pegs & bars were okay. Very lucky, huh?
NoOtherNameWasLeft 4 years ago
yer seems that the sliders saved you

If you haven't experienced this yourself, you haven't really felt your own limits! Great riding!

Wow, I could just about see the rear tiring spinning from here. Were you using good rubber?
adamruck 4 years ago
Yup! Used them the very next day at the track. I just gave it too much gas.
NoOtherNameWasLeft 4 years ago
That is Thunderhill, not Laguna. I hope you weren't too banged up.

oh man! Great vid, cool to have the video footage and the stills. Not the "glory" footage you intended I'm sure, but informative for the rest of us. Thanks! Glad you and bike are OK.

Thanks. It's great to ride on the track, even when things don't go like I planned.

nice riding the bike is ok ?
lytsos 4 years ago
Yup, not a scratch, nothing bent. Frame sliders did their job.
NoOtherNameWasLeft 4 years ago
not bad, but you should try dumping it while making a left through an intersection in front of a school bus full of 12 yr olds...like me!

Ouch dude. I'm always a bit more ginger than necessary 11 - 13. I've seen so many people spin up the rear and bin it there. Glad you're OK and the bike didn't tumble.
