In Heartgold/Soulsilver, Mewtwo is is incredibly easy to catch. It's only offense is Psychic, meaning it can't damage Dark types. Absol, in particular, can learn False Swipe and Swords Dance, meaning your only fear it Mewtwo killing itself with Struggle.
I just froze Mewtwo in Yellow, using my Lapras' Ice Beam (saved before the battle so i made sure it worked) and then got his health down real low while he couldnt move a muscle. Then i just captured him after 5 or 6 Ultra Balls! =D
You think MEWTWO'S bad? Try catching RAYQUAZA without a Master Ball. It has Rest to fully restore its HP with, and Thrash confuses it, meaning it can potentially finish itself off while you're busy throwing balls at it!
Being Dragon/Flying with his lowest stat in Special Defense, you could just respond to his Rest with a Blizzard or Ice beam and drop his HP drastically, follow it up with Ultra Balls, and Timer Balls if the fight goes on long enough. Confusion shouldn't matter, keep him asleep.
Mewtwo didn't have any strong moves to worry about, high defenses, and that miss chance on all balls was terrible.
You should actually play Red or Blue, see what catching him was like.

If Shadow Ball existed in 1st Gen, that and Psychic and Submission (for chansey) would have annihilated everything... Shame he had to choose between thunderbolt and ice beam all the time =P

there one more thing you need to know that can make Mewtwo even MORE broken
there is a glitch in the game that allows you to catch pkmn over lvl 100. mewtwo is one the the pkmn that can be caught this way. Its possible to get his lvl to 255! if you lvl him up via rare candies.

When I first played gold lol my alakazam got a rude awakening by dark moves particularly bite! Since a lot of non dark pokemon had bite. Back then when I was in trouble i'd just bring out alakazam to mop the floor with whoever now I had to be careful lol. I'm glad they nerfed it though. They really made ghost and bug types pitiful and now they're both very good.
@senshi85 I remember trying not to use the master ball on mewtwo just to see if I can capture it. Took a hell of a time but I was able to do it then I reset the game and thew a master ball lol. If you can capture mewtwo you can capture anything lol.
I understand mew-two in RED-BLUE version... he was tough to catch even with a normal pokeball you would praticly have to put him to sleep AND reduce his speed ad def to even catch him with an ultraball! (Yes def and speed have to do with the CAP RT with all games, take articuno for instance < < you will see...)
all pokemon from the newest series gip the old ones only cuz they nerf the old "most powerful pokemon". until they stop making new ones, it'll just keep changing. and the only reason legendaries are easy to catch now is cuz the designers keep making them weaker in each new series. the 3 birds were hard to catch in red-blue, the cat/dog things were hard to find but easy to catch in gold/silver, and the titans were easy to catch in ruby/sapphire. face it, pokemon is too easy a game!!
My friend went to a special Pokemon event and got Mew. He was kind enough to clone it and give me one of the clones. Mew is even more overpowered than Mewtwo.
I remember mewtwo's prime. I caught it, leveled it up to 100 in blue and took down the entire League with just him. Man I miss those days. Stupid type advantages

@PKFlash9 HA!!!! It's EASY to catch legends in normal poke balls. I like every generation, but Mewtwo in a poke ball in Red, Blue and Yellow? That could take forever! You'd have to have like over 400 Poke balls, just so you can waste the first hundred missing Mewtwo and the next 200-300 having Mewtwo break out of them! It took me 4 hours took catch Mewtwo in an Ultra Ball. Charizard was probably my best bet in a fight with Mewtwo, he was lv 88. -_- I didn't know about it until a friend told me, so all my pokemon were in the 80s by then.

The most annoying thing when trying to catch it was recover. It takes ages to get it down to 1hp, and then it just uses recover and you have to start again...

Mewtwo, highest level of Gen I. Well...in the series, you DO realise that Arceus is a massive Level 88? In all games where he's catchable (Aka, the Gen IV games Diamond, Pearl and Platinum), that's still the *second* highest Wild Pokemon. There IS also the resort area where only Magikarp are available at any level (even 100!!!)

The instruction book for Red/Blue/Yellow correctly said that Ghost moves didn't effect Psychic Types. Still, even if they did, the only true Ghost Type attack is Lick, which only has 20 power. I should've mentioned this in the video.
Sorry this is so late, but Night Shade was another Ghost-type attack, but it only did damage equal to the user's level, ignoring weaknesses and resistances. I'm not sure if this was replicated in the card game, but if it was, I wouldn't be surprised if it said to disregard weaknesses and resistances when doing the damage.
I used Visual Boy Advance. As for the ROM, look around and you should find it, but I can't tell you where exactly.
And I'm not going to be making any Strongest Characters Ever videos for the Sonic any time soon because, quite frankly, I'm fed up with that series. (Despite making the previous video being based on it)
I just don't like that video much. It happened sometime early this year when I started feeling typecast as making only Sonic stuff, even though I make tons of other videos as well. I deeply regret doing so many Sonic challenges two years ago.
I can't believe it. Mewtwo made the list. The fanboy in me cheered - I've been a fan of Mewtwo (and Psychic types in general) since Gen 1. Nerfings and balancings can come and go, but I'll always stick with Psychics, for however long I play Pokémon, especially Mewtwo. And Dark may be Mewtwo's nemesis these days, but he -does- have a counter - Aura Sphere! (Okay, okay, fanboy shutting up now... @_@)
twice i have just gone into battle & thrown a pokeball (yes a pokeball, not an ultra/master) & its capturted it 1st time, have even done this with rayquazza in emerald ruby & sapphire :P
No Pokemon are very hard to capture in Red/Blue/Yellow (compared to the later games, at least) since even the rarest Pokemon easily stays in the ball. I didn't really have the right stuff for catching Mewtwo for this video, just the team I had used to beat the League with. Regardless, excluding the Safari Zone Pokemon, Mewtwo is probably the toughest Pokemon to catch back then.
And I can't imagine how unlikely it would be to get Rayquaza like that, you were very lucky.

The pokemon breaks free, it breaks free after tilting the ball 1ce, it breaks free after tilting the ball 2ce, it breaks free after tilting the ball 3ce, and it gets caught. It's not low for most Pokemon, but compared to Lugia and Groudon, etc, it's not too high either. But they have their own stats that are about the same.
Mew 2 in melee was good, but not vs any character. He was good vs peach because he could simply trow him in the air with a grap to finish her up really fast. He could also kill a character that fall fast by grabbing him and trow behind. Im just saying that it was not impossible to win with mew 2. I do tournaments so i know what im talking bout.

Only pokemon that knew a bug move that was not weak to Psychic attacks was Paras/Parasect with Leech Life. A bug move with only 20 power.

Psychic on ghost was a programing mistake.
Proof: f you talk to people in the Saffron (?) gym, they'll tell you that ghost is super effective against psychic.

@PKFlash9 HA!!!! It's EASY to catch legends in normal poke balls. I like every generation, but Mewtwo in a poke ball in Red, Blue and Yellow? That could take forever! You'd have to have like over 400 Poke balls, just so you can waste the first hundred missing Mewtwo and the next 200-300 having Mewtwo break out of them! If you can catch him in a normal pokeball in the original games, THEN I'd be impressed. P.S I'm not saying yur bragging, just sayin something thts true

Mewtwo was even far more insane when you can reset his level to 0 in Pokemon blue, and relevel him back to level 100 for even far more insane stats.
I mean, 442 HP, 280ish attack, 360 speed, 290 defence, and a whopping 500 special. You can reach 999 special in a fight, let alone have the ability to lower your foe's special with Psychic...

@SmashBroGameAndWatch (ignoring my warning on NOT doing it) after I taught a friend about missigno I warned him not to even attempt it, and yep, it pretty much fucks up you Stadium, it doesn't appears in your Pkmns and at first nothing happens, but eventually in Oak's lab your pokemon boxes start to fill with that little "substitute" midget-like thing and one day your game simply is gone (at least that happened to my friend's stadium)

It took me 4 hours took catch Mewtwo in an Ultra Ball. Charizard was probably my best bet in a fight with Mewtwo, he was lv 88. -_- I didn't know about it until a friend told me, so all my pokemon were in the 80s by then.

The most annoying thing when trying to catch it was recover. It takes ages to get it down to 1hp, and then it just uses recover and you have to start again...

Mewtwo, highest level of Gen I. Well...in the series, you DO realise that Arceus is a massive Level 88? In all games where he's catchable (Aka, the Gen IV games Diamond, Pearl and Platinum), that's still the *second* highest Wild Pokemon. There IS also the resort area where only Magikarp are available at any level (even 100!!!)

Other than all those things, Mewtwo could also learn a variety of moves (Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, etc) to hit basically everything but other Psychic types for Super Effective damage. Not to mention that Blizzard had 90% accuracy back then.

The instruction book for Red/Blue/Yellow correctly said that Ghost moves didn't effect Psychic Types. Still, even if they did, the only true Ghost Type attack is Lick, which only has 20 power. I should've mentioned this in the video.

Sorry this is so late, but Night Shade was another Ghost-type attack, but it only did damage equal to the user's level, ignoring weaknesses and resistances. I'm not sure if this was replicated in the card game, but if it was, I wouldn't be surprised if it said to disregard weaknesses and resistances when doing the damage.

I can't believe it. Mewtwo made the list. The fanboy in me cheered - I've been a fan of Mewtwo (and Psychic types in general) since Gen 1. Nerfings and balancings can come and go, but I'll always stick with Psychics, for however long I play Pokémon, especially Mewtwo. And Dark may be Mewtwo's nemesis these days, but he -does- have a counter - Aura Sphere! (Okay, okay, fanboy shutting up now... @_@)

No Pokemon are very hard to capture in Red/Blue/Yellow (compared to the later games, at least) since even the rarest Pokemon easily stays in the ball. I didn't really have the right stuff for catching Mewtwo for this video, just the team I had used to beat the League with. Regardless, excluding the Safari Zone Pokemon, Mewtwo is probably the toughest Pokemon to catch back then.
And I can't imagine how unlikely it would be to get Rayquaza like that, you were very lucky.

@whoisthisgit Technically, in the newer games, there were 5 possibilities in catching pokemon. The pokemon breaks free, it breaks free after tilting the ball 1ce, it breaks free after tilting the ball 2ce, it breaks free after tilting the ball 3ce, and it gets caught. In the 1st gen, either the pokemon gets caught, or the ball misses. So, in the newer games, the chance of catching it is
1/5 *(pokemon strength)
and in the older games it's
1/2 *(pokemon strength).

Mew 2 in melee was good, but not vs any character. He was good vs peach because he could simply trow him in the air with a grap to finish her up really fast. He could also kill a character that fall fast by grabbing him and trow behind. Im just saying that it was not impossible to win with mew 2. I do tournaments so i know what im talking bout.
