Thanks for the informative video. Disregard the nay-sayers here...you're doing a great service for people like me who were considering buying the product. I'm ording it today, by the way. I hope Maxpedition is giving you stuff to review!
Nice review monkey. You've convenced me of the quality of Maxpedition gear. I've picked a different product, but I'm sure that the same quality will be present.
Great review. I was going to buy a cheap clone, but because of this review and the comments by professional soldiers who have used this bag, I've decided to shell out the extra cash. Thanks!
I just wanted to say thanks a ton for the review! You did a fantastic job covering everything. And I must also say that your draw speed using the versipack was EXTREMELY impressive. I was not expecting anything nearly that quick. I'm now even more confident with the purchase (I can't wait for it to get here)!
Great review. Cant help thinking that changing PALS webbing for velcro strip on the top is a retrograde step. Nothing much on offer to attach, and it will just atract debris. Keep it bare? Got one on the way as a hunting bag. Seeing the ccw options made me miss pistols. We arent allowed them anymore. We are just victims in the making.
milspecmonkey: I have an original (with the locking SRB) Jumbo Versipack and would like to make a custom paracord pull for the CCW pocket. Could you post a video, or link to a video, to show me how to make my own? Many thanks for your very informative videos!
Good vid dude...I currently EDC the Fatboy and have been thinking of switchin up to the jumbo as EDC inventory expands. Im a righty and use the S version so not to hinder strong side weapon draw. I CCW for cross draw with a PPK/S. Also have integrated the Janus on the shoulder strap. System works well. Keep on keepin up dude!
Very good review. The addition of gloves is very helpful to me also. Being able to function all gear without removing gloves can be a finger saver during long winter days.
I am a crewchief, and door gunner on a UH-60. I bought this bag, based on this very product review. I use it as my E&E bag, and it has performed flawlessly thus far. Its gone with me, on two tours to Iraq, and many field problems. In the states I use it for EDC and it also works well for that. I definitly recomend this product. If its tough enough for professional soldiers, its tough enough for anyone else
Nobody should ever knock milspecmonkey. He's a dude who doesn't seem to care what people think; isn't trying to act macho. Just being himself; performing a valuable service for others in his reviews with great enthusiasm. So what if I think the two gloves on the draw is dorky? What's wrong with a little dorkiness? 99% of us have that dork in us, and I'm talking military guys as well. milspecmonkey gets 2 thumbs up.Good man in my book.
This is the first of your vids I have seen. I gave it 5 stars. Your formay seems well thought out. Your critique was constructive and logical. Good job, I'll watch a few more vids and probably subscribe.
After doing lots of research and watching your video I decided on this bag. I actually thought it might be too big before I got it but it arrived today and seemed to be a good medium size. The Maxpedition holster looks a little to minimal for me and I got the 5.11 Tactical holster. Their holster comes on a hook side Velcro panel with a loop side holster which all adheres VERY firmly to the attachment points in the bag. An advantage to this holster is more coverage and an thumb break. Good video!
Nice review - as well as the rest of them. For me, I intended to buy some Maxpedition staff even before I so this vid, but this particular vid finally proved for me that the Jumbo S-type Versipack was one that I need! Good luck in what You are doing!
Great review and an awesome pack, went out and picked one up myself this morning and seems very sturdy. You should do a review on the Maxpedition Monsoon.
Nice review - very thorough. I can't decide which pack to get. Gotta store the usual: cellphone, GPS, digicam, ipod, keys, flashlight, leatherman, and maybe a few small items. The Jumbo seems huge for that amount of stuff, but a Remora may be too small. Suggestions?
Great review dude. I am awaiting delivery of an OD Jumbo Versipack, partly as a result of your reveiw. Your online reviews are great - extremely helpful, but the video reviews are the DB's! Please keep 'em coming. Cheers.
so why the hell doesn't maxpedition make the SRB's and stuff tan? are they just lazy or something? I think black with the OD is fine...but c'mon...black and tan? that's just crap...
The bag is very cool, but suitable for low weight cargo. Wearing heavy loads on one shoulder is unconfortable and in time could determine spine damage. Ask any doctor.
I have two of them. I found that the rubber skin on their holster made a slow draw with my Poly pistols. I modified an elastic and velcro pocket holster to work in it. I suggested a version with Molle inside, a steel spring clip/wide plastic clip versus the nylon belt loop would be better, a version with all Molle on the outside of the main cargo pouch for customization, and a removable waist belt for times when a belt in unavailable.
P.S. There is now an even larger version available.
awesome presentation there, i was supposed to get a fatboy too but got the colossus instead. fits my 1911 perfectly as well as my DSLR, PSP, PDA, extra magazines, chargers and stuff. i find it more organized too.
Guys, don't be so hard on Milspecmonkey. His enthusiasm for the products he sells is admirable (is that a pistol in your pocket, or are you just pleased with your Versipack?). He clearly loves what he does; can you say that about your work? And if you're describing a miltary-style 'tactical pouch' do you square up to the camera with combats & a pistol to do it, or sit in an armchair with a nice hot cup of tea & grandma's fireside manner? Hmm. Tough one. Go Milspec: you're geeky but I like you.
I'd agree. I'll admit that at first I found the "poses" a bit daft, but he's clearly enthusiastic, covers all potential uses, and these are the best video reviews I've seen for any of this sort of gear. The milspecmonkey site is a tremendous resource (if a bit random in the organisation).
Excellent stuff, and thanks to him for making the effort to share. If only maxpedition gear wasn't double the price in the UK.
That was a good review. Covered a lot of info and answered potential questions while demonstrating the features. As for the guy with the poser comments (probably some pogue anyway), most of the people that work at places like Crane and Natick are not trigger pullers or have ever been. They are smart and take the desires of the trigger pullers and create the end products we want. Again, good review.
I'm sure that you being a poser makes the video more effective. Or at least makes us wonder how many war videos you've watched while working at Blockbuster. Or did you learn those skills playing airsoft and practicing in front of the mirror for hours?
I only bother allowing your comments since I'm sure there are others who feel the same way as you. If you and others took time to learn more about me you would know my experience comes from my work, military friends, range time, and military base visits. I am here to share information not pretend to be anything.
You are clearly out to help people gain understanding. I, for one, LIKE the knowledgeable and thorough air you present. You seem like you'd be a no-nonsense guy to deal with, whose ego is not involved in discussing facts, gear, techniques, etc. In short, you seem like a good guy. Don't let these morons affect you. Keep up the good work.
Good review, but...dude...stop being such a warboy poser. Leave the mil-speak, attire, and choreography to the big-balled MFs who have done it for real.
Dumbing down the presentation would not benefit any viewers. I wear what is functional. I'll be on the look out for the hidden fight scene I suposidly "choreographed".
So does it make you feel like a big man putting someone else down behind the relative anonymity of the internet? Do you feel better now? I don't see you posting videos and helping others make informed buying decisions. No, you don't help. All you do is complain and try to put someone down. Big man behind the keyboard. You're a troll. Bravo! Very well done and well-presented. You have a great delivery, and seem very logical, thorough, and well-trained. I will watch for other reviews by you, and I think I might be headed toward obtaining a Maxpedition pack. I initially came here to learn what makes the right- and left-handed versions different, and which was which. Thanks!
