How dare you tell God what to do! Have you brought back John Calvin's predestination? Is being gay an automatic damnation? I'd rather be with Matt than with someone like you. When you finally realize that your religious leaders are lying to you, maybe you'll finally leave, as I did. Matt will celebrate his eleventh birthday in heaven on 1 December, in defiance of Fred Phelps, and others who think they are god -- which is precisely why they are not gods!

It is human nature to reify an abstract concept. Therefore, I'd like Judy to clarify what she means be symbol. Would placing Matt on a stamp (eligible now that he's dead ten years) be too much? Obviously, the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Act will be passing in 2009, and President Obama will sign it. That is more toward the abstract and the higher purpse.

We know Matthew wasn't perfect-- no one is-- but he was a beautiful person and didn't deserve what happened. He suffered enough that night and the God I know wouldn't allow him to suffer further.
I know he is with God now. A piece of me died the day Matthew died, and I still cry sometimes to this day when I think about what happened that night. Rest with God beautiful Matthew. I hope I get to meet you there someday...
