good old falstaff. whin i was a kid growin up in a small town just out of menphis we could go in the back room of pool hall {where the big money tables were] and drunk. ,WOULD NOT SERVES US ANY THING BUT FALSTAFF.don't know why.
I am told, to get Furry to play a show...you had to pay $20 to get his guitar out of pawn. Wich, BTW, was an obvious scam, lol. He also required beer in the payment. This is Memphis blues.
its too bad none of these great players ever got any damn money for thier stuff.....thier influences on modern music remain......they are the shoulders of the giants that musicians stand on today.....
Sometimes I feel like this song represents a pinnacle of popular music. The lyrics effect a sophistication lost in most rock and the melody is just so sweet. What an enormous talent this man had.
I missed my fave weekly Monday(5pm PT)1hr old-time oldies radio show,Roy's Record Room,CKUA radio(listenable free online).
But Roy posts his playlist. He played this Furry song, one new to me.I'm trying to recreate the show via YT.Glad I found this one! Thanks.Anyone who digs pre'60s Blues,R&R, Rockabilly,Jazz,C&W,B-grass,W.Swing,etc. will love Roy Forbes' show. He's got the humungous 78s & 45s collection, the fine ear,and entertaining informative commentary to make his show "zone" intoxicating!
Lookit that cheeky grin slapped across his face, haha.

He also belts the myth that a bluesman had a down axe..Gibson for Mr Lewis. God gives the best workman the tools to shine...
