how do you know? Eaves is so young. +20 goals his rookie year. the move was a desperate attempt to try and save face during a horrible season. How can you say the trade was not horrible? we got SWEPT the first round!
And Carolina didn't even make the playoffs. You can tell by the way Eaves plays and what he has done up until now. The trade only looks bad because Ottawa has nothing in return now. You can thank the NHL Cap for that now. Who would ever pay Commodore that much is beyond me (once he left Ottawa). They simply did not fit into Ottawa's scheme, but I wouldn't say this was one of the worst trades ... by any means.
Corvo wanted out, he couldn't take the pressure. He really wasn't be best defenseman either. He's still struggling in Carolina (except games vs the Sens haha). He's more of a defensive liability then anything. Eaves would have been nothing but a 3rd line player, the Sens have enough of those.
@SENSNETWORKcom Corvo is the only player part of this trade that is with the team he was traded to -albeit traded again to Washington last season but resigned with Carolina
im gonna miss corvo around he wuz a pretty good skater and puck handler but its true he wuz very hard on himself alot of his time in ottawa, not a fan of stillman nor commodore but im kinda glad eaves is gone he wuz good but no contribution when hes hurt
I hate to see Stillman leave here and kinda shocked that he waived his NTC because he said it many times that he wanted to retire in Carolina, but both team got what they NEEDED. Im excited to get Corvo and difiantly Patty who will fit in well with our speed type of game. Commy will fit we'll with you guys as you needed a big physical Dman infront of the net which is Mike.Mike was HUGE fan favorite here but he started taking alot of dumb penalty's this year.Hope it works for both teams. GO Canes
I'd gladly trade Corvo for Commodore, but I'm not a fan of Stillman, and Eaves is a great role-player (when he's playing). I don't know, with McGrattan's shoulder acting up, it's great to get another big tough guy who can fight and play a good defensive game. It's kind of hard for me to let go of Eaves though-he's a class act.
I didn't find the clip, but Corvo was requesting a trade to an American team. Less pressure I'm guessing. I don't know if you noticed, but he was always hard on himself when he made a mistake (from post-game interviews).
As for Eaves, hasn't he had two concussions already? He has great potential in general though ... but I'd rather give up Eaves than Kelly or Vermette.
I don't think Paddock really understands how instrumental Eaves and Corvo are.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not the biggest Paddock fan. He's depending way to much on the Big Three, and when they're injured, he doesn't take advantage of the others' abilities to fill in the gaps.
And I can understand wanting Commodore, but why Stillman. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see him doing well in Ottawa.

I think this is an amazing trade personally. I think we get more leadership and more toughness and more role players in return.
