I also owned an ATI X850XT 1silv0r- that card hauled ass in Oblivion. I had an AMD Athlon FX-53 paired with the ATI X850XT and it looks like its running smoother than this!- My most recent system build is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 stepping with 8800GT's SuperClocked and it runs Oblivion smooth as hell. This game is also multi-core ready now.

I have an 8800GTX and if you put 16xAA on then it will destroy your fps! My PC is powerful and your silly if you use 16xAA you seriously will not see the difference between 16xAA and 8xAA. Even if you use the latest more mature drivers 177.83 it will slow down.

So basically dont lie that your using 16xAA.

no for real MXhm91- i ran Oblivion at 1024X768 everything full out maxed including HDR on my older system which was an AMD Athlon FX-53, ATI X850XT 256MB, 4GB Registered Ram, dual 80GB hard drives, and a 19" ViewSonic CRT Perfect Flat paired with a 17" Dell Ultra Sharp LCD- it was the best money could buy back in the day. Obviously my new rig kills it but it still ran Oblivion maxed out with HDR at 1024X768.

If your comp is oem check the power supply, they are notoriously bad/underpowered. you really want at least a good 400watt ps. Your system should have no prob playing oblivion at lower resolutions. Are you sure you've lowered the resolution and not just the in game video settings? If the ps is not a prob do a clean xp install on a separate partition then install oblivion there. if its still running slow after all that get another gig of ram and a better video card.

with my 8800 GTS 640 MB 600/1800 it runs oblivion on 40 fps+ never gets down 40 fps with everything maxed out on 1650 x 1080, sometimes when i look at big landscapes it gives a hickup but thats probably because i only have 1 gb of ram, but that should be ok.

How on EARTH your saying your GTX can run Oblivion at 1600x1200 with 16xAA and 16xAF is beyond me, because mine sure as hell couldn't.

Check Tom's Hardware VGA charts. The GTX pulls 28FPS average at 1920x1200 and thats with no AA enabled and 8xAF.

It's all a fabrication of your imagination. Now, Oblivion with medium shadows and lighting and 4xAF and 2xAA @ 1920x1200 Yes. Nice. Lets be more realistic.

My system is built almost like yours. Same processor and 2048mb of ram. My graphics card is a 8800gtx. A GTS in oblivion is like a GTX with little performance differences. Your system specs should be fine.
