What I have as an alarm system is a minecart system! I know what your thinking "This guy is out of his mind how do you use a minecart system as an alarm?!?!?!" Well in a update the mobs can enter the minecart and once they do they cant get out unless the minecart is destroyed or you (or on Multiplayer) or another player kills it. So just put a preasure plate at the end of the track that is wired to a redstone torch Bam a alarm system Hoped this helped anyone :D

Took me forever to figure out redstone, and I still have a hard time with it. The repeaters are so useful though, not only does it make it compact, but prevents confusion with having 20 redstone torches. Now you only mainly have to focus on the inverts.

you should put lava being blocked by a door, and if an enemy walks on the pressure plate, the door opens, and they die

That's one way to do it but the enemy (assuming it was this smart) would be able to see the lava through the door and just wouldn't step on the suspicious pressure plate. But there are more complex ways to do this including tnt and whatnot.

You can make a clock by putting a redstone in the middle and four gold above below left and right of it. Compasses are the same but instead of gold you use iron. Compasses point to your spawn.

what you should do is you should make a pressure plate that does 2 things

1. it closes your door (as long as it is open, lol)

and 2. it makes a light go off in your mine or something

or if you forget to close the door often you can put a pressure plate that closes the door for you so you don't have to worry about it.
