I like both Jpop/Jrock and various Korean artists (ballads/rock/indie/pop) and I see no point in doing a comparison of the music industries of these two countries or any countries for that matter. Their markets are all different which also account to how mainstream each genre is. In Japan, the Oricon charts show the variety that Japanese people enjoy and find popular. I hand over the idea of the gaming and anime supplementing this. In Korea it's different. Pop holds supreme.

There are even handful that are idols that play their own instruments in bands.) You can compare let's say SCANDAL to SNSD. Two totally different images, genres, etc. Maybe AKB48 to SNSD. Before going into this whole argument on originality, look into the idol groups of Japan. They are carbon copies of one another as well. Some of these idol groups can't even sing.
