  • which path of max stats did you choose?......pwesonally I would take C Idk know if it's possible in a PSGWSF....

  • how do you skip FMV's on ps2 slim

  • is this pal or ntsc ? please comment .. thx

  • @s1dney NTSC

  • Do you think shortening everyones names to 1 letter would cut some time off over all from message boxes?

  • @VashFanboy1 Hehe, I suppose it's possible, but I can't imagine the amount of time saved would amout to anything worth noticing. Surely the amount of time saved would be no more than the time spent erasing all but one of the letters from everyone's name in the first place.

  • @rlouisw Well I know that in an FF7 speed run it helps a lot. But I'm not sure about FF9.

  • @rlouisw correct me if im wrong pls:*pause trick is like a process of buffering,so that the game will run smooth w/o any delays or lag*....,,,so do i still nid to do the pause trick if im using an emulator? which uses an iso not a cd.....cause i think the cause of delays and lag of the game is bacause ur using cd not an iso file...im confused????????help pls ^^

  • @originaleecyaj66 This pause trick works for a PS2 set to the settings I have. I have no idea if this trick transfers to other consoles.

  • This run is just.. insane. Absolutely insane.

  • Going to attempt this on PS3... I haven't played in a long time though, so I might end up restarting a lot :(

  • according to some guys in the gamefaqs forums.. the total length of FMVs in the game is a little over 35mins.. considering that some people have completed the challenge with over an hour extra time left. yeah, id say you can do it with FMVs even on a PS1 console

  • Oh don't worry i can skip FMV's now and i'm playing on a slim-line PS2 aswell. I'll be starting this challenge today, wish me luck xD

  • I just got the NTSC version of the game. Just one question, i'm on a PS1 and its complicated but lets just say i can't skip FMV's. So is it still possible to complete this challenge on a PS1 AND without skipping FMV's?

  • You'll probably be cutting it close but I think it's possible.

  • i forgot, how much time are you allowed before running over when getting the Excalibur 2?

  • 12 hours

  • Gahhh...... OoO i was thinking it was 24.

  • Very nice work. I am using this guide to try to complete this challenge but I have noticed your's seems to run faster. I have paused the video and my game at the same time on the same scene and then played them at the same time and your's goes significantly faster. Is it because I am using a ps2 slim or something?

  • (I am changing the settings before I play.)

  • I you are changing your options, then I don't really know. There are various version of the hardware/software in a PS2, I might have gotten a faster version, that's all I can think of.

  • First things first: great job on not only the run but all the helpful comments. I consider this video collection just as essential to beating the challenge as atomos199's guide. The fact that you didn't skip FMV's is crazy not only in that it adds extra game time but also tons of real life time as well.. I've done this challenge twice, so I'll comment on some parts I liked or the ones that gave me hell. Maybe you could also answer some questions about why you did some things.

  • Nice work. I am glad to see it can be done without having to employ "tricks" like opening up the disk reader to skip FMVs. I eventually hope to do this myself, however, I'm not concerned with maximizing stats as high as possible by killing off most of your characters, etc.

Would I be able to save significant time by including the FMVs but allowing the characters to level up normally (ie. not maximizing stats)? Any estimations on the amount of time this would save?

  • You actually wouldn't save time doing that. The amount you might level up by winning random encounters wouldn't level you up enough to make later fights easier, so actually you'd be wasting time by leveling up.

  • Darn. I can't remember now... do you get EXP in boss battles in FF9 or just AP?

  • Just AP

  • Well, I'm sure you don't answer the comments anymore, but just in case, How do you know if you are on a PAL version? I am playing on a PS3, so I can't skip FMV's, and not to mention that I CANNOT do the stage fighting 100%. But anyways, I made it to Ice Cavern with almost 15 minutes more then you. Yet I was doing things just as fast, except there is no Fast Disc Speed option!

  • Well, if you baught the PS3 in Europe, then it's probably a PAL. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you.

  • Nope haha thanks for answering though. I figured it out. I borrowed someones PS2 and its going much faster.

  • atomos199's guide is good but he's wrong about it taking 2 yrs for the timer to reset

  • awesome guide dude ...... i just finished ff9 and was able to do everything except play a Lvl 1 PGE2, which means nothing =( Anyways your guide has inspired me to try this challenge. Wish me luck for i'll be playing this ntsc iso on my granny pc, and ya for sum reason i can't get the skip fmv trick to work, so i'll also be trying a PG w/o skipping fmv's =0

  • is teh clock time still running if the FMV plays?

  • Yes

  • Great job;) May i ask what stat path are you following in this challenge?

  • I am following stat path D. Freya will take the exp from Tantarian, and Freya, Zidane and Garnet will take the exp from their Pandemonium battles. And also, I am using the Magic path for Quina.

  • How can you skip cutscenes?

  • nice guide BTW. i have a questions

    1. What is pause technique your talking about please explain...

    2. im playing on psp, and this is my first time to play this FFIX.. do i need to play it first without getting EXCALIBUR 2 or folow your guide??

    3. whats the difference of Guide Time and adjusted time... THX thats all

  • 1. Holding Start as the FMV comes to an end will make the game pause.

    2. Play it first to get the hang of the game, and to enjoy the story.

    3. Guide time = time the guide suggest. Adjusted time = time I would have if I skipped FMVs, like most would with this challenge.

  • (Sorry about my english, i'm french)

    Good luck men.

I'll try to, beacause my playstation 2 don't skip fmvs...

Do you use "fast" and "smoth" mode ?

    Thanks

  • I already got the Excalibur II, but I still have a lot of other stuff to do, sot thanks. :-)

And yes, I use Fast and Smooth mode, every time I start up or reset the PS2.

  • EDIT : I'm using a slim ps2

And do you think it is possible to have Excalibur II, with a perfect game, without skipping fmvs?

  • RE-EDIT : I got Excalibur II too ^^ (watch excalibur 2 ff ix pal you can see it)

How do you do to skip fmv on a slim ps2 ?

  • LOL he killed himself at the ending

  • Why'd you kill yourself?

  • It makes the battle end faster.

  • what means PGWSF?

  • Perfect Game without Skipping FMVs
