They have evolved every album. I didn't even know about them until The Offspring covered "Total Immortal" and made me want to download the original and that made me start listening to them more. Now I own all their albums and you can hear them grow up with each album.

AFI didn't change their style out of artistic preferrence. They changed it because they signed to a major record label. They are now the same as those other poser bands out there. Selling your soul for a few extra bucks and experimenting with other style are 2 different things. Their music is now for posers like boys that wear mascara and girls that live on myspace. They won't ever match Black Sails, and that in it self is a terrible shame as they certainly have the talent to do it.

Exactly true. I mean, I understand this because I'm a musician. If I played the same song every day for a year, I'd be no better than I was last year, right? I have to learn new things, even songs and styles that I don't like, to grow as a performer.

Also the money deal, this is their job. They spent their time being poor and unknown, now that they have a larger base they need to keep all fans happy, which means change.
