I agree with tetamyn, it sounds like feedback. Since they were recording the call anyway, depending on how they had the mic set up it probably just got a feedback loop. Just back the phone away from the speaker like you would your mic on a stage.
this one time my bothers comp gliched up and part of it went black and then it said "help we`r hangen in here" and we wer like O.O and then the comp died!
