Did anyone even know that van damme was a proffesional kickboxer and karate champion before he became an actor,. he competed in full contact and semi contact matches 18-1 (18 knockouts) Kickboxing record, and a Semi-Contact record of 41-4. So i think it is fair to put van damme up there with bruce lee as a martial arts master. That film of van damme that is shown in this vid is "no retreat no surrender". If anyone watches that they will see why van damme is a master, anyway there both legends!

I love Bruce, but he was never a fighter, and would probably get his ass kicked in a real fight against any experienced fighter.

@mustafanazif erm you should read JCVD biography. During his years with competing both karate and kickboxing he had only KO victories, most of them in first round. He was the champion too. But the movies made him lose that passion. And that's the main reason to why he's going to have new kickboxing match now. Against a former Olympic medalist.

i have been doing martial arts for a solid 8 years......Im not gonna argue to many things on here becuase its not worth it....but come on man, why would u say JCVD had his ligaments operated on to kick with flexibility? With practice and consistant stretching it becomes a normal part of kicking. Not even something special. it jus comes out from the hard work and pain you endured from all the stretching. Any martial artist knows this.

No, there are not. If you believe they exist, just go and look for one. There's nothing there. On top of that, it's been proven that he actually made up some of it. Gary Elms never existed. Most everyone else exists solely in a Bruce Lee vacuum, with the exception of Wong Jack Man, who probably beat Lee.

If your going to compare anyone to Bruce Lee I personally think its got to be Jackie Chan, seeing as Jackie worked with Bruce Lee as his stunt double before moving into his own movies plus Jackie did a lot more to change the perception of martial arts than Jean Claude Van Damme.

You have to understand that east asian martial arts traditional teaching is based in fact on centuries of traditional nurture, spirituality, inner force(spirit strength) and of course specific measures of asian fighters)
It's just ridiculous(and wrong) teaching 'u-shu' or kung-fu ''monkey combat style" to a 200lbs, relatively "sluggish" european guy. It would be like teaching balley to a lorry driver.
You can't just come and learn it. You won't get the gist of the teaching. And even if you'll understand the essence of the "doctrine" - you won't be able to pull away from the madding crowd, a comfortable modern life (the ancient teachings are not compatible with the 'mess' that happens today) and completely dedicate yourself to the "Teaching". Only very few modern people can 'transcend the Rubicon' and throw off all the unnecessary, everything that hinders the Teaching. And they are truly FREE!

Bruce on the other hand made up lies about fighting a boxer and a bunch of super deadly street fights. Besides Wong Jack Man, BL has apparently made everything up. And even with WJM details are sketchy as FUCK! Half the people say BL lost, some say it was 25 mins, others 3 mins, it ended by submission, by KO, by ground and pound, nobody has a clue. And even WJM was not a fighter.

Bruce Lee has demonstrated countless times of how strong, quick and fluid he was. He also proved not only in movies, but in real life, how amazing he was at Martial Arts and the true godfather of MMA. Look your shit up before dissing a legend, douche.

No, there are not. If you believe they exist, just go and look for one. There's nothing there. On top of that, it's been proven that he actually made up some of it. Gary Elms never existed. Most everyone else exists solely in a Bruce Lee vacuum, with the exception of Wong Jack Man, who probably beat Lee.

Nothing is known about him except his first name, and that he fought BL. Gary Elms. British boxing champ who never existed. Lee's high school has no records of a boxing tournament either, and no pictures or any other shred of evidence exists from it.
There is not a single picture or film of him fighting or sparring anyone, ever.

If your going to compare anyone to Bruce Lee I personally think its got to be Jackie Chan, seeing as Jackie worked with Bruce Lee as his stunt double before moving into his own movies plus Jackie did a lot more to change the perception of martial arts than Jean Claude Van Damme.

The difference between two artist is huge...
You have to understand that east asian martial arts traditional teaching is based in fact on centuries of traditional nurture, spirituality, inner force(spirit strength) and of course specific measures of asian fighters)
It's just ridiculous(and wrong) teaching 'u-shu' or kung-fu ''monkey combat style" to a 200lbs, relatively "sluggish" european guy. It would be like teaching balley to a lorry driver.
It's not for everybody!

You can't just come and learn it. You won't get the gist of the teaching. And even if you'll understand the essence of the "doctrine" - you won't be able to pull away from the madding crowd, a comfortable modern life (the ancient teachings are not compatible with the 'mess' that happens today) and completely dedicate yourself to the "Teaching". Only very few modern people can 'transcend the Rubicon' and throw off all the unnecessary, everything that hinders the Teaching. And they are truly FREE!
