This may be a late response but, 'Maketa' does mean 'I lost.'

The reason it is special is because one of Marth's taunt says, "Makeru wake ni wa ikanai! (I will never lose!)," and the fact he is considered one of the more stronger characters, him saying 'I lost' is a mockery towards him. As a lot of people are irritated by how people use him because of tiers and how over powered his moves are compared to others.
