  • my band is playing this for the halftime show

  • where's the stank?!

  • you 'guys' (and gals) were amazingly awesome!

    Have more?

    Landis.

  • Not bad, considering they're kids. IMHO, though, when doing a song, one should attempt to maintain some of the original. Piano, bass, etc. Substituting one instrument for another really takes away from the impact.

  • yeah, i dont like it when high school bands try to do this, leave the music to the pros

  • SICK!! we play this song in our jazz band too we gotta bigger band accually we got two bands consisting of two tenor, two altos, two barris, a couple trombones, a couple of piano players, a few drummers and a league of trumpets lol

yeahh and deff put a groove on it its wayy to bland but rele good :)

  • good attempt but may i suggest funking it up a lot more. its sounds to up tight. get some messy tones and just jam out!

  • the conductor has a nice ass

  • @dosbourn3 I was thinking that too.

  • WHERE'S THE GROOVE? I CAN'T FIND IT?

  • Very nice.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzz zzzzz

  • Rubberband man without the slightest bit of soul. Sacrilege.

  • Good sound, but needs to be "funked" up more. Listen to the original Spinners from 1976. To the director.... :Loosen Up, have fun with it, direct it more with fire, and your group will respond. You did a great job teaching the notes, now its time to really get the power going, of which this song is capable of. Nice Flute solo, BUT it needs to SWING more!!! Drums SWING SWING SWING. Get down and dirty. And the director, just throw yourself into this song, the power would have been there!!!!

  • Very entertaining. I'm a lead trumpet player at my school and i have to say you guys really compliment this song by playing it. Your trumpets and trombones sound great.

  • Needs vocals yo.

  • The band leader improves the situation as well as the trombone, but still not the Spinners.

  • very good

  • I read somewhere that the original lyric was, " Rubber assed fag."

The record company rejected it for some reason. So much for artistic integrity. It's a shame that a recording artist has to rewright a song to pacify some record exec.

  • @shredder1965 It was originally titled " The Fat Man ". One of the band members had a son that was teased at school and it was written in an effort to help him overcome the bullying. Apparently (true or otherwise) the music was meant for another tune and the lyrics were written to match, and through some quirk of history were paired up in the studio eventually... the end result is a stunning slice of Detroit Soul !

  • they are good but i was looking for the actual spinners. change the name to show it not the spinners

  • i was watching the conductor the whole time

  • if i would have had a band teacher with a body like that...i would have stayed in band!!! b.s. aside, they were awsome!!

  • That band was awesome! Love, Love, Love it! 2 thumbs Up.

  • I love it! Saw a college band play it once, and this is maybe better. Gracias.

  • someone press the 36th floor please?

  • The tag was misleading; this is NOT The Spinners"!

  • Where is the bass drum?

  • i agree with all these posts.... this is way too stiff. this is funk and swing man! you gotta feel the music, not just look at the notes on the paper. i suggest for any song that you should listen to the original and get the feel for it, then swing it around and make it your own. then you got some swang and swagger.

  • ok first of nice sound FOR A CONCERT BAND!!!!! thats jazz!!!! man ya aint got no soul!!!!! thats so boring make it nasty and spice it up!!!!! ya sound to weak for a band that huge my high school band would eat ya for breakfast and were one of the smallest band it TX!!!!!!!!! so so sad

  • Agreed ..., that is a NICE Bootie !

  • The conductor has a nice bootie. Would definitely get down with her.

  • goddamn your right me too

  • I think it was awesome, the drummer doesn't keep a very good beat, but overall I think this was really cool!!! two thumbs..

  • Renditions like this and the lack of emotion by the conductor is why a lot of younger people can't appreciate this music. I call it the "Lawrence Welkization" of music.

  • She got all jazz flute on yow ass! I'm killing myself laughing, go white kids, go! Seriuosly keeping this size of band tight in mad difficult. Good effort.

  • you rasist

  • How's calling someone who's white "white" rasist? A tad touchy about this aren't you? What's up?

  • it sounds like a marching band these kids have talent but not the soul thats something the conducter cant teach

  • you're not swinging it enough, I have to agree with peterm3964. sorry

  • *facepalms*

  • I had to sing this song but i did well

  • This is sooooo wrooong on sooo many levels

  • I want to do the conductor

  • Your trumpet section is killing me, and not in a good way.

  • I want to get down with the director.

  • First get rid of the drummer. Can you say fills?

  • Um.... a flute? isn't this a jazz band?

  • there is such a thing as jazz flute

  • i feel bad for them having 2 transfrom such an emotional song into notes just notes

  • um.....looks like the rubberband man has to pay them a visit and tell them how to swing and groove.

  • that trombone solo is nothing special. my band play this and our trombonist does much better

  • oh my god i cant stand watching kids play music when they dont feel it, and everyone knows when you feel it, but this is so watered down i wanna shoot my head off and paper cut my fingers so i can never touch an instrument, i blame the kids, administration, band directors, and everyone involved with this, surely someone could have said "what the frick are you thinking???!?!?!!!"

  • Dude...seriously...I know how you feel. WHY. WHY. WHY. *headbang*

  • Blame the School Administration, not the band director or students.

  • wow i love this song and this band cant play it very well... thay need to have wayy more fun with it....

  • Nice, but lacks feeling, too robotic. In jazz and soul you must truly "feel" what you play. Its not enough to play right notes and rhythms.

  • Well, not through the whole piece, but I can definately tell this sounds more like a marching band would play it than a JAZZ band would. Overall good job though.

  • @johnrolandyeiseriii Wow- you just put into words why I usually laugh at Muzak-style covers of pop songs. "Robotic" is usually the word for it!

  • wow nice!!!, I could never do that, but that's so awesome

nice video and music, rubber band man is my fave song ever

  • I thought they did really well.

  • I thought it was kind of neat, not the greatest arrangement though

  • For a high school band they really aren't bad. Pretty tight actually.

  • btw kev, this is crazy that this has like 10000 views! its awesome!

  • the only reason they have so many views is coz THEY RIPPED OFF THE ORIGINAL SONG TITLE. change the freaking title so it says by them... kevdipstick48

yeah become gardners, or statistics technicians... or something.. just stop playing.... arrrggghhh my ears.

  • It's a high school band, you jack ass.

What exactly did they "rip off?"

  • Comment removed

  • I thought it was outstanding by a High School Jazz band. And what I thought was even better was the Director. From the camera's angle she is Extremely Cute.

  • I think what he meant to say was they should have put "High School" in the title of the vid. A lot of people are clicking this vid thinking it's the original song.

And given they probably did that just to get more hits, that's very not cool.

Oh, and the conductor is hot.

  • omg this is shit... learn some feel.

second thoughts forget it and become a gardner or something

    crappolla

  • hahaha become a gardner!?

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHA

im sorry, that is just really funny =p

ive never heard such a stupid insult in my life =D hahahahaha

  • what the ????

why did you STEAL THE ORIGINAL TITLE??

change your freakin title to say its a cover!!!

for that you suck big time.... LOSERS

  • is there really any need for an attitude like that? get a grip

  • BUURRRPP !! is that better?

yes its necessary coz you cant tell its a crap cover when searching in the 'related videos' window so people think its the real one. now hows your grip on life going?

and stuff kevdrip48 for pinching the original title.

  • lol you sure are an angry little fellow.

and its pretty obvious that you see a jazz band when you see the picture of the video on the "related videos" section, so you can pretty much expect that its not the actual version =p

  • so why not just say it in the title?... 'cover' or whatever.

angry?.. why not when you get thousands of idiots stealing the actual name and artist of a song without reference to themselves. they're just trying to get hits on their vid by deception. that sucks.

little? says you.... is that why wank is in your name? very classy.

  • lol im pretty sure thats not why he named it that =p he probably put that title there because thats the name of the song lol

and its not that =p its "Kristian Scott Swank" my full name =p haha but it is kinda ironic that you said that cuz i litterally JUSt made a video about this subject =P

  • she rocks the flute

  • wow i was randomly searching rubberband man and i found my schools music vid, i think this is a couple years old, after i clicked on it

  • School band is likely never going to do such songs justice. There's more to it than playing the notes. The instruments can also have a MAJOR influance. and the instruments that could cary such music simply arn't taught in school band.

But they still get credit for taist and effort.

  • It's good but too white...lol

  • Can't you hear it?

  • Those conductors don't even need to be up infront of everybody look at where those kids are all looking, at the papers infront of them not the conductor.

  • My school's jazz group doesn't use a conductor during the band concerts. Jazz music doesn't really need one, just a good drummer and bassist.

  • This is one of my school's pep band songs, up until 1:45 its identical. Also, maybe vary from the written solo a bit Trombone and Saxaphone? I couldn't even hear the flute... Also the trumpet section needs to grow up from middle school. You have to pop the sound out and stop blowing the wrong partial

  • haha, i applaude the effort but this songs suposed to be FUNKY! and that is all the conductors fault, shes up there conducting like shes in front of a classical orchesta!

  • shes supose to do that

  • not for a funk song.... good song though

  • You conduct the same no matter what style. A conductor's job is to give certain visual cues and provide a tempo, as a metronome - that's it. If this conductor is the person who actually teaches these kids, then yes, she deserves some blame. It's tough to tell without seeing the sheet music, but I bet there are some dotted notes being shortened, and it's the teacher's job to teach kids how to read those notes in funk and play something in the proper style.

  • Conductors definitely are supposed to give visual cues for style (like funk) as well as tempo. Jazz conductors look way different than classical conductors, who look different from each other based on personal interpretations of the music at hand. Wrong conducting style there fo' sho.

  • I like it! Maybe a little more attitude though, give it more of a pop!

  • The sax at 3:30 was too reserved. I would have preferred more of a tighter, fruity, punchy sound.

  • dear sonicstep, i really prefere a more fruitpuch like type of sound, sometimes with cherrys, just make sure to not add lemonade, it sounds far to spicy, haha lol jk, haha this is our highschool's second band, im one of the trombones, i play in the first jazz band too =)

sorry about my comment =P haha i just couldnt help but laugh =) please take no offence, because i really cant agree with you more =p

  • I like fruits! Especially grapefruit mango peach bean dip casserole mostaccoli su casa salsa apple manzana platano punchy yum yum!!!

  • I got to this website accidentally but the band is really playing the song well. Great job. I'm impressed.

  • should start from beggining

  • Great song. Nice job guys.

  • lol we playin this in my band 2 =P

  • good song, eh?>

  • awsome just fantastic

  • wow this is so amazing! the is the most fantastic playing ever! im amazed! stupendous! wonderful! crazy! i love this!

    -Kris

  • That's what she said!
