I can't believe these comments (oh wait yes I can this is Youtube) it's a fuckin commercial people laugh at it that is what was ment and to sale some dam Tide
@sihlanque right!! I thought it was funny ... everybody's made cause they can't rock white jeans whenever they want like her. Don't hate the commercial hate your grandmother jajaja
She sounds ignorant! Just what the media wants to display about African-Americans... To all ya'll African-Americans who think otherwise ya'll ignorant too!
People really ought to ease up. While, we're all entitled to our opinion, I gotta say....if this offends you...oh my, you're going to spend a large chunk of your life being upset/offended.
Quick points..In reality (some) black women DO talk this way-not ALL black women. So the commercial is realistic. It makes NO claim for ALL black women. As far as representation, that is a matter of how black women present themselves in everyday life and society-not one commercial. If one looks at this commercial and is offended, then be offended by real life.Let us be realistic and realize there are all kinds of black people in this world. The only reason the word stereotype comes up-cuz its on TV
This is not ghetto! Believe me! I talk like this a lot. She has an attitude in her voice while she happens to be Black. Kill all of this righteousness, we as Blacks always have to be on our best behavior bullsh*t! The commercial was FUNNY plain and simple. Not HOOD, not GHETTO, not OFFENSIVE. Whatever that is. FUNNY!
those of you who are saying this is racist just shut up. im black and i dont find it offensive at all. its called "umph" in your talk. tide asks people their tide comments, so im sure she wanted her voice to be that way for the commercial. would it still be racist if it wasnt a black women but she spoke the same? shut up. the way she's talking is to make the script more amusing and alluring.
I beleive if this woman would have thought of her role in this commercial she wouldve agreed to do it... But instead if worrying about curing world hunger or something thats needed like more employment and homless shelters you calling this commercial racist ... What is wrong with people today get out if the house and do something productive i just got through enrolling in school ... Try that!! Jeez no life
its not ghetto, its not acting ghetto, its called "Soul" or alittle attitude, everybody had it in the 70's idk where people get ghetto from. "this is funny as hell." oh sorry for having soul when i said that, or wait its ghetto now right? -,- people today
@skillsx16 70's? Ok. Well it's 2011. Why is this black women jive talking and having a haughty attitude? Tide is playing up on a stereotype. I don't understand how it's so hard to see how this is demeaning.
This is to all the black women who are offended by this commercial. If you are offended then i guess that just means that you need to embrace the fact that you are a beautiful colored woman and that's one of the things that this lady shows. She is not acting Ghetto.
She should have been holding a bucket of KFC and had a pack of Kools in her back pocket... "ill do what I want cuz i'm an animal and therefore lack any respect"
How come black women aren't allowed to be offended by this? Why can we all be offended by the stereotypes we saw in "Tide Dad" and "Tide Hoodie and Cargo Pants", but we're being "overly sensitive" about this one?
If it doesn't offend you, that's fine, that's your right. But if it does, speak up!
This commercial annoys me. It perpetuates the "Black woman with an attitude" sterotype. Try again, Tide.
@EnchantedWillowGreen Stop using "Sass" to deflect te real issue ...BAD ATTITUDES. So drop yours and come again. And this time stay on topic, this isn't about me.
WACK... STEREOTYPICAL BS .... I AM A BLACK MAN, AND I FIND THIS EXTREMELY, OFFENSIVE, UNIMAGINATIVE, AND STEREOTYPICAL!! NO WAY IN THE SAM HELL YOU WOULD EVER SEE A WHITE, ASIAN, OR ANY OTHER WOMEN REPRESENTED IN ANY AD WITH STEREOTYPICAL BEHAVIOR LIKE THIS! ONLY BLACK WOMEN SEEM TO FALL FOR AND/ OR APPROVE THIS TYPE OF BAFOONERY. GUESS THAT WHY THEY LOVE TYLER PERRY'S SHYT SO MUCH! ...BLACK WOMEN HATE WHEN PEOPLE STEREOTYPE THEM, BUT YET THEY GET ON TV AND PERPETRATE THE EXACT SAME BULLSHYT
COONERY!!!!!!!!! Tide AND this so called actress should be ASHAMED! All thats missing is a finger snap and a tired ass .."okaaaayy" (in my ghetto girl voice)
@EnchantedWillowGreen OMG...this has ZERO to do with your degree. And secondly, who MAKES you feel bad about sassiness, (which i may add is being used here to cloak ATTITUDE, the real problem) if anything BW dont like to be called out on it, hence, you defending this blatantly stereotypical commercial. This commercial is worst that the state farm "bring me a new boyfriend" commercial, and i though that was bad smdh
AND SHE ABSOLUTELY IS THE FURTHEST THING FROM MICHELLE OBAMA , FOR WHOMEVER WROTE THAT IGNORANT SHYT....MICHELLE OBAMA HAS CLASS, ALONG THE LINES OF A CORETTA SCOTT KING. SO KEEP ALL THEM NECK ROLLIN' , FINGER SNAPPIN ASS COMPARISONS TO NICKI MINAJ AND ALL THAT TYPE OF GHETTO TRASH..

LMAO! Today was the first time I seen this commercial and I love it! It's soooo funny! My mom and I both laughed it at, because she told the TRUTH! lol
I lold at the comment about how this commercial teaches young people that its ok to have attitude. Seriously..why the he'll do you even own a TV if that's how you feel about an insignifcant commercial
Okay-I have had this comment made to me! don't wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day so I LOVED the commercial! It didn't matter to me who was acting---any race--it was the concept that got me! It was perfect to finally hear a young person say that--that was the selling point for detergent to me. That they were using a person a bit closer to my age bracket to undo that wearing white myth. The fact that she had bit spunk didnt do anything to engage me either way.
Unfortunately, this commerical is funny. However; it is not rated for adults only. Young girls who don't know better also watch it. Young people learn better by what they see, so this commerical is telling young girls it's ok to have this attitude, it's ok to say "what ever" to something you don't know. You don't need to research, or ask questions. If you don't believe things like this have a negative impact on impressionable youth, visit your local elementary, middle, or high school.
@Hopeful15a I don't understand your point here at all. You seem to be hung up on the "sassiness" of the actor, but she was eloquent and grammatically correct, so that cannot be the problem. There is nothing offensive about this commercial. The true test of this would be to put a woman of another race/ethnicity in the same commercial and have her say the exact same lines in the exact same manner. It would still be funny and not offensive. .
reading some of the comments. yeah some shouldn't take the commercial seriouly but at the same time they might as well had with some neon finger nails and a lacefront and that would be crazy. but seriouly they should have made the commercial with her being sassy with just a little attitude in her voice that wouldn't grab your attention as a person who comes across a bad way
I'm black and I do find this commercial funny but at the same time all that neck rolling tone of voice. and how she says *white* near the end is a bit too much. . . it does stereotype black people cause all of us aren't like that.
I agree with daniqantt. This reminds me of the McDonalds commercial when the African American young lady had a box of chicken strips and when someone attempted to take one her response was "You Better Don't"....besides her bad use of grammar, she coupled it with the aggressive tone, the lean and the oversized eye look. I'm soo sick of these types of commercials. Tide...won't be using you anymore until you can find a more respectful way to represent minorities.
@4RealEP I'm sorry, but what bad use of grammar? The only thing that would come close to "bad" grammar would be the use of the work "rock", and maybe the phrase, "what are you? My grandmother?" but that is subjective. Her tone was assertive, not aggressive. There is a difference.
i was just thinking that @neisharayonna what's up with the sistergirl mmmm hmmmm kind of act? yeesh....one fingersnap in a z formation and neckroll from the 90s
i saw this on television and IMMEDIATELY recognized her as a coon. she completely embodies the sapphire stereotype of black women. all i can say is "FUCK TIDE". why does only 2 types of black women make it to television (jezebel and sapphire)? say what you want but you have NEVER EVER EVER seen a white woman in a commercial doing some shit like this... and when you have, it's intentionally a joke (as in the new axe commercials... "I KNOW YOU AIN'T TOUCHIN' MY MANNEQUIN"). this is just bs. damn.
I saw this commercial on tv twice and know the whole thing ! xD I walked up to my mom saying , : " No white jeans after Labor Day ? Who are you , my grandmother ? " Mom : " The flubb ? o.O "
And what is this whole stereotypical BS u morons on here are talking about u know what it is just a commercial and the girl told u how she felt about her jeans period.........lets not make this a million man match to washinton dc for civil rights it just a funny commercial......c'mon folks lighten up geeeez
that heffa said "ECRU" i m dying lol...that shit is funny i sure in the hell dont want to tell what she should and shouldnot wear ok!!!!!.........she sure sold that detergent shit i wanna go get some tide and pair of white jeans......oh wait i m dude lol...never mind go on girl wit ur badself !!!
As a Black man, I have to say Oh brother! Not everything is an intended offense needing to be met with protest. It's not like she was juggling watermelons while frying chicken and tap dancing, or worse, starring in a reality show. She had the perfect amount of sass and sold that detergent. This is currently my favorite commercial. Rock those white jeans!
This commercial gives ppl the wrong impression of black women and is putting out the wrong image to the world. Some will assume that all blk women display a bad attitude & r hostile with all the neck rolling & jaw dragging antics. Which will later give them a reason to say blk women r undesirable b/c they r abrasive & hard to get along with. Im frankly tired of these cooperations portraying black women in a distorted light. I bet they'll change when we start protesting with the dollar.
I love her attitude. No one better for that commercial. She has a Louisiana accent. People see it as stereotypical. I'm sure if she seen it that way she would not have done it. Just think of the sum of money for 18 seconds of fame and how many viewers. Who cares so dont be mad cause you were not picked for the commercial.
Gee, I don't know...maybe she should speak perfect textbook English. Then, she'd be representing Black people in a much better light. Besides, the commercial would be WAY funnier that way (this is SARCASM, btw).
People, how 'bout we stop taking things so seriously. It's an ad, for crying out loud.
@xquickstrykex lmao, I love how everyone's post is like "this is so stereotypical, blah blah blah" and then I get to your comment and it's like a normal, practical question!!
and just so you know, yup, you can! So go rock whatever color jeans you want!! lol
A man with a good eye for fine ladies. I say they did that commercial for a reason. Got her turned to the side so you can see those mean curves when she stands up. Those jeans were fitting right, tight, and dynamite. They need her on every other jeans commercial out there.
This woman sounds like she's suffered a horrible stroke. The people casting these commercials need to either dig up a black woman with the accent they're looking for, or have the people they DO cast speak in their normal voice.
I know it's becoming more and more of a luxury commodity to have pride these days, but I would encourage more black actresses to just not take jobs that require them to put on a voice that they either don't speak in or are incapable of replicating.
@tlaney29 It's funny cause it's funny. it's not racist, it's not saying that all black people dont' know other colors for "off white", it's just funny cause of her delivery. I'm an actor, and sometimes stuff is just funny. Her delivery was funny, if it was someone else it might not have been as funny. People need to stop pointing a finger at every thing to call out "the man" for being anti-minority. It just gets old, sometimes funny is just funny.
@MisterRoseMan THEY WOULD NEVER USE AN ASIAN TO "SAY IT LIKE SHE DID" THAT WOULDN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE! THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING ..AND OBVIOUSLY THEY WANTED A BLACK WOMEN TO "ACT BLACK"
am i the only one that thinks this is stereotypical as hell lmao she had to have an attitude & do the hand motions & all . hahaahah please dont send me hate i'm a black woman & i think this is tooo funny hahahaa
I have no idea what you peeps are talking about, unless you're saying she should fill her swimming pool with the Tide shit, and go for a swim!?! If so, all of you peeps need a lobotomy

Keep rockin' them white jeans, Boo Boo!

I love the sass! She's like "No white jeans after Labor Day? BITCH what are you my grandmother???"

This woman sounds like she's suffered a horrible stroke. The people casting these commercials need to either dig up a black woman with the accent they're looking for, or have the people they DO cast speak in their normal voice.
I know it's becoming more and more of a luxury commodity to have pride these days, but I would encourage more black actresses to just not take jobs that require them to put on a voice that they either don't speak in or are incapable of replicating.

tlaney29 3 months ago
@tlaney29 It's funny cause it's funny. it's not racist, it's not saying that all black people dont' know other colors for "off white", it's just funny cause of her delivery. I'm an actor, and sometimes stuff is just funny. Her delivery was funny, if it was someone else it might not have been as funny. People need to stop pointing a finger at every thing to call out "the man" for being anti-minority. It just gets old, sometimes funny is just funny.
DuRob 3 months ago
It's her sassiness, and stop talking about race, an asian could've said it like she did and it still would've been funny.

@MisterRoseMan THEY WOULD NEVER USE AN ASIAN TO "SAY IT LIKE SHE DID" THAT WOULDN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE! THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING ..AND OBVIOUSLY THEY WANTED A BLACK WOMEN TO "ACT BLACK"
