  • @bizzuu He probably cooked for 100 people at a time and now cooking such small portions must look Lilliputian.

  • Hi remyspam. I believe he is adding urud daal after the cumin seeds.

  • What is the ingrediënt at 1:16, after the cumin seeds? Sounds like "Urud Wash"?

  • Well bvasically because you are inspiring people to cook, i am blazed and this is too priceless to believe. I created a sweet bread sandwich, first i spread with butter, topped with honey glazed ham, and jalepenos. Fuckin class munchies

    =P

  • hey chef this is not a saag recipe. i'm crying after watching this. Please change this recipe's name. It may be delicious but not "saag" at all. Please call somebody in punjab and ask for a real recipe and plz try not to insult such great dishes.

  • Very Good

  • God I love sag so much. ^_^

  • I love how he says vegetable. He pronounces every syllable. =)

Great recipe! And great for you!

  • Chef, add some more green vegetable dish videos please as it is important for us to eat green veggies everyday! :o)

  • yeah and you can get a lot of calcium from greens (^__^)

  • chef if u'll put all these greens in pressure cooker first n after that drain water n mash all that after that u can give a nice chaunk to it...it will be much better at last add butter

  • Great site! Always love vahchef's videos, especially the very generous "pinches" ;p

What is the ingredient he puts in after the cumin at 1:19? I couldn't catch the name...

  • sounds like he said "urad daal"

  • yeah that sounds about right...and his "pinches" are more like handfuls...lol

  • lol it's so funny how u go yuuumm and soak in to the food in ur mouth lol!! if i do become a chef 50% chance i wanna be like u!! =D

  • Looks delicious.

  • (CONT)

Meanwhile, i add the sauteed onions (and minimally sauteed garlic/ginger).

At the end, I blend it up to smooth it out

  • I love this site, Ustaad-ji! You're the new Ravi Shankar for cultural diplomacy.

    Regarding *MY* saag recipe:

    1. I use mustard greens, with minimal stems.

    2. spinach.

    3. onions/garlic/ginger.

    4. salt

    5. red chili powder.

    NOTHING else.

The initial volume of the greens is a lot, so I slowly add it to the hot water. Then I pressure cook the greens for about 60 minutes with a lot of water. .

  • Hi Chef; what is mustard leaves, I mean in North American stores, what do they call it? is it Kale?

  • NO! Kale isn't the same as Mustard greens. mustard greens are more pungent than kale. also, i think that mustard greens need a *lot* of cooking, since their cell walls are thicker.

  • Mustard is what it is called in North American stores. Kale is a bit more bitter than Mustard leaves (but I still like em'!)

  • when he sais a pintch he puts so much :D

  • its pucka!

  • As the saying goes " You are what you eat", thanks for helping us eat tasty food and encouraging us to cook better.

  • Really?? Do you eat chicken?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks as always! I can tell you really like the taste :) ... (It's nice to have a good excuse to buy new spices like mustard seed. Now if only there was hing around where I live.)

  • you can cook this without mustrad seeds, it wont effect the taste as their are mustard leaves in it.

  • Love the cooking tips. Please can you place a list of ingredients on the left of your reciepes.

  • you can find the ingredients for the recipes at vahrehvah dot com

  • Thanks

  • Thanks a lot sanjay garu !! :)
