actually, there are only 7 presidents before george, because the last guy ( cyrus griffin ) didnt count for some reason. plus, my teacher told me tthat those 8 guys arent really US citizens... so inorder to be a president you need to be a US citizen. Although I believe you guys, not my teacher.... which is weird
You know... before deciding if the former presidents were "under british rule" suppose you should check out who signed the treaty of paris, ending hostilities ... at LEAST one other president should be on here if that is your only jibe.
True we had 8 presidents but we were also under british rule but Washington was involved in the revoloution and when it was over was elected our first president under the new us constitution....the former presidents were talking heads for England.
I would like to be able to read the words on the tombstones. If you make another video slow down and focus on the epitath. If someone has the information. Please post.
8 presidents before George Washington. WHY DONT YOU KNOW THEM.
1) John Hanson 2) Elias Boudinot 3) Thomas Mifflin 4) Richard Henry Lee 5) John Hancock 6) Nathaniel Gorham 7) Arthur St. Clair 8) Cyrus Griffin
Can i ask why the names i have listed above are never spoke of in America even though they are the 8 presidents before George Washington. Yes i said before George. Please dont reply until you have checked them all out.
@crimberland, Thanks for this comment. Its strange, I didnt know this until just a day or so ago. I saw something on the history channel about it....then you post this. Hardly anyone knows about these 8 presidents.
@willhoit63 Your welcome, your the first to thanks. I have been bombarded by people sending pm's saying they were not real presidents, though history gave them the their titles. They were presidents of the federations and all had around 15+ states control at any one time. They supported Laws they knew would help the common man in times of trouble like the Magna Carta. We are truly missing important information. take it easy Bruce. peace
@crimberland That is not exactly true. Yes they were "Presidents" however, they were under the Articles of Confederation, not under the US Constitution that we follow today what leads the United States as we know it.
@trentboham I am really referring to them and how they where tied in with England... many treaties and bills they wrote up still hold power today. But we were not suppose to know much about them as many where outspoken on common law and followed queen Elizabeth on the (right to travel) as well as other common laws the state would rather us forget. Mainly on property ,ownership and merchant law.
The men you listed were the 8 presidents of Congress from the beginning of the revolution to the end of the Articles of Confederation. They are important historical people, but the Articles of Confederation gave them little authority. The trashing of the AoC & the creation of the USA made knowing their names irrelevant.
@whm7ad3 You got that right, especially lbj, nixon and regan, (talk about baby killers) but the worst is yet to come, bush and bush and that fu*kin chaney. they shall all go to f*ucking hell. From a drafted combat vietnam Veteran.
wow really.....??? id like to see u go up there and be better than them. i could sure do better than you could. Obamas ideas=taking money from educated people and giving it to peope sitting on their fat asses all day. great job buddy
John Adams is not that far away relative. If he was your great great grandfather, you would know it. I know the name of my great great grandfather. If freaking John Adams was my grandfather I would know all about it.
alright well you dont have to believe me, cuz im not 100% positive myself. but my granma and her sister have done alot of fam. history searching over the years, and this is what they came across, and their pretty sure we are. and i doubt hed be my great great grandfather if he died in 1826. more like 4-5 greats?
my grandma can date ourselves back to my 9th great grandpa, who came over from scotland in 1712. this is one of the few things shes discovered in between, so it very likely could be true. whether it is or its not, would be pretty cool to call him a distant grandfather.
While not the best of Presidents, being overwhelmed by the economic depression of 1837, I have visited the gravesite of Martin Van Buren which is in the same cemetery where some of my Dutch ancestors are buried, Van Schaack being the family name. Via known info of another Dutch family, my Van Schaack ancestors and Martin Van Buren are distantly related.
Thomas Jefferson was one of the most influential Founding Fathers of US but his grave is not good condition, unlike Abe's or Washington's ..i wonder why !!
Jefferson designed his own tombstone long before he died. It says nothing about him ever being President as per his last wishes. He wanted it to say he was the author of the Declaration of Independence and founder of the University of Virginia. He suffered from migraines during his second term and told Madison, "You are the second happiest person today," after Madison succeeded him.
In short, he wanted his tombstone simple and didn't care about its upkeep.
no mccobb3221.......FUCK YOU!!! Fuck you and all your stupid comments. If you are an american, you should be ashamed...and if you are not an american, great! stay out of our country!!
The bodies are all there. Washington's is there. By now whats left in there is probably nothing. I've been right near his grave and touched it before. The security near it is appalling. Same with Lincoln's and all the other significant presidents.
Umm I doubt that alot of this presidents bodys or even in those Gravesite. i mean comin on George Washintong: his tomb look Brand spankin new and alot of this other guy i think arent really buried there it just a mounument so people can see i guess. What do yall think?
I think They are buried there. Washington's tomb looks new because its indoors and very well kept. stone is not going to show age even outdoors if its cleaned from time to time.
Well I can't make a good impression of some of these pictures. Because to me, it's quite shameful that some of the gravesites look old and abandonned.
Some Presidents, like Chester A. Arthur, wanted to be low key in death. President Arthur burned his private papers before he died. There is also a dispute as to what year and where he was born.
It gives them some level of privacy even in death.
Based on known info, Chester Arthur was born in 1829. When he was in his 20s or so, he decided to have the public record state that he was born in 1830.
Perhaps Presidential inspiration for Jack Benny's routine.?
Thanks for the question RIC...I had the same one and hope they'll make the correction. I have a hobby of visiting presidential graves whenever I can...having grown up in Indiana about 15 minutes away from WH Harrison's at North Bend, OH.
You are correct in that they are buried in a mausoleum. Harrison's tomb is actually in a hillside. I haven't been to Adams'...but be assured no president was cremated. Lincoln's body is buried under 9 feet of concrete (read about the attempts to steal it).
best president was probably lincoln. he actually strived to free slaves.
worse is probably hoover actually cuz he let us go into depression. FDR helped us out of it, but he messed us up alot then. and bush will probably be the least popular for a long time though. washington wasnt actually a good president cuz he didnt do much as president. he did most of his goodness in war. they were all good in some way.. even nixon with the chinese and clinton end desert storm.
I disagree (agreeably) with statement re: Hoover. He was blamed for depression but wheels had already fallen off by the time he was sworn in. The stock market crashed 7 mos. after he became Pres. Coolidge is more to blame...also this was a different era and the US government had little to do with economic policy. Remember there was no "Fed" to adjust rates, there was no SEC to control the stock market...these all came about under FDR. The stock market in 1929 was a free-wheeling place.
People, lets not bicker about what are opions are on somebody else's site..its rude dishonest, etc. If you come accross something you don't like, don't ruin it for everyone else.
Whether you are a Dem or Rep, 1 thing we can all agree on...these brave men worked hard to keep this country free. Death isn't concerned with party affiliation, it just happens. From Washington to Reagan...may you all rest peacefully and continue to watch over us.

Five greatest Presidents in my novice historian opinion: Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln FDR, JFK, Ronald Reagan Worst:, Andrew Jackson,Cleveland, Harding, Hoover,Nixon The greatest of all, Abraham Lincoln The worst ever, G.W. Bush. Smartest: Woodrow Wilson Dumbest: G.W. Bush Most honest: Lincoln Most evil: G.W. Bush Most humble: John Quincy Adams Most Arrogant: G.W. Bush Most wise: Eisenhower Most delusional: G.W. Bush
How was Grover Cleveland a bad president? He was one of the rare presidents that didn't cater to big business and was against bailouts. Not to mention he helped rebuild the navy.
Woodrow Wilson probably had good intentions but his actions did way more harm than good for the US. Dragging us into an unnecessary World War, increasing America's role of involvemnt in the world, andsowing the seeds for American Exceptionalism where America becomes this democracy-proselytizing force. Unnecessary
@flclfanman don't forget, he stole the wealth from america by taking gold from our money and giving worthless paper. when he was pres. a 20 dollar bill was worth one ounce of gold, now it takes 65 twenty dollar bills to equal one ounce. he was one hell of a thief, no one can come close. except dubya
The worst ever was James Buchannan. The man did nothing to stop a Civil War dueing his lame duck session and actually committed treason! The History Channel gave a very convincing argument. The worst in my lifetime was Carter! The best in my lifetime was REAGAN!
@greymountian Actually, I don't give a rat's behind what you think about the SOCIALIST in there now who now has 912 DAYS TO GO! And obviously you are the one who is uneducated since you should have written "you're" and not your because you meant to say "you are!" BURN!
For Jimmy Carter...How about 'expanded the vice president's role' or 'first president from the deep south since 1848' or 'accomplished the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt'? 4 year term ... please!!!
Same here, ape. I was there last July and I could have sat on the steps near the cemetery for hours. I also got to visit 6 other Presidents' graves along the way. My kind of vacation!
You know, my 5th grade teacher once suggested that we should have a graveyard in Washington DC just for the Presidents. What do you guys think about that?
Thats not Lincoln's grave. His body was removed from there after an attempt to steal his body from there had failed. He was permanently intered in Springfield.
actually, there are only 7 presidents before george, because the last guy ( cyrus griffin ) didnt count for some reason. plus, my teacher told me tthat those 8 guys arent really US citizens... so inorder to be a president you need to be a US citizen.

Hey Johnson, That is Lincolns grave in Springfield. Go to Wikipedia and type in Abraham Lincoln and they show this as his grave site in Springfield.
Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.

I wish the earlier presidents at least were captioned.
Also, did you notice that Harding had the biggest memorial out of all of them?
