The Napa Valley Wine Train would be awesome if they also did frieght, But they don't. That to me is a waste of a rail line. There is always heavy traffic on Hwy 29 and the NVRR does nothing to help it.
@rj202673 They actuly do freight traffic, although very light due to people not wanting horns and noise. Its not the railroad that can "do" freight, but people who want, and who can ship by train along side the rail line. Thats why all three railroads failed in the Napa Valley until the Wine Train came along.
Very nice video with the history and all of the Napa Valley Wine Train.
I have traveled the country doing RR photo shoots/video shoots. I did a video series of the Napa Valley Wine Train in fall 2009 and vids are on my youtube account.
Rice-a-Roni! The commercial jingo automatically plays in my mind. :) I didn't know that's what funded the train. Even though I don't eat processed food, it's cool that the family used the business's money to give back to the community.
You know Rice-a-Roni (AKA The San Francisco Treat) may have been one of the first kinds of healthier processed foods in the 1950's - but it happened to have a lot of significance in supporting the transition of women into the workforce, by making it a little bit easier at dinner time.
What 'anti-free market agenda'? The family used a portion of their proceeds from selling their Rice-a-Roni business to benefit the community in Napa. They purchased a defunct span of railroad and invested millions to refurbish the old Pullman cars. Then they hired a whole bunch of people and treated them like family members, making sure that they have living wages and health benefits. Please don't misinform people with whatever skewed agenda you're pushing.
This video was posted to describe the beautiful and historic restoration of the Napa Valley Wine Train. Not only are their trains powered by clean natural gas and their business operated through sustainable practices, but they also provide full health care and benefits to all of their employees. Congress provided funds to Napa to protect from a rising river, there are a lot more people & businesses that benefit from this stimulus, including those who were put to work for the repairs.
