IMHO - This man way not willing to tell his daughter she was wrong, and he is a coward, not a hero. Just because he is crying does not mean he is right. Our culture needs a standard of morality. Emotion can not fit that bill. Otherwise, when I get mad and I hit you, its not "wrong," because I had genuine emotion. Sexual Orientation is a misleading term. It suggests that a person is created with a certain bent.
People used to say it was an abomination for blacks to marry whites. Look how ridiculous that looks now. It won't be long we will all look back and see how ridiculous it was for us to ever treat gays with any less respect or dignity than anyone else. We are all God's children and he loves us all.

I am a straight man. I don't have any issues with being gay or anything of the sort. I cried like a baby during this video. It was like watching a microcosm of social evolution unfurl in a matter of minutes. When I doubt this country and it's majority views, all it takes is something like this to reel me back in and make me feel better.
It's hard to come out as gay, right, but sometimes I think it's harder for people to come out as supportive of gay marriage when they don't have to, especially when they grew up in or are still in an environment where there's pressure to be against it.

Domestic partnerships and civil unions don't grant the same federal rights of marriage. For example a gay domestic partner ( or in a civil union) cannot sponsor his partner (if this partner is not american).
You can't vote another persons basic civil rights away no matter how much you hate. Even if 8 passes it will be challenged in the Supreme Court and then all the State marriage bans will be thrown out in one decision. Separate church and hate vote No on 8!!!

You don't think they could find any happily married polygamists? why should they be excluded? And how 'bout laws against incest that prevent two men (brothers) from marrying? will that be repealed to allow incest?
No rights are taken away from gay couples (family code 297.5). They can even still engage in ceremonies and call it a wedding. Proposition 8 is an issue about families and children. There is an overwhelming amount of sociological evidence demonstrating that children in a traditional home have the highest chances of doing well by all measures. I don't think we know enough about same-gender attraction to legally and lawfully allow those couples to raise children.
I'm glad he decided to do what is right and treat gays and lesbians as equal under the law. Vetoing the resolution would have denied them their civil rights as citizens under our constitution.
Most of those for prop 8 actually believe wickedness never was happiness. We believe perverting the laws of nature is wicked. We believe we are all children of God, and that He has given everyone a way to bear their burdens, and that inappropriate sexual tendencies are just that- a burden.
We all have burdens. Some of us succumb to them, some of us learn and grow by working through them.
We just don't want to be part of a society that accepts succumbing.
Good point. Let's take measures to stop people from succumbing to Christianity, or for that matter, any sort of religious belief, because there are many who no doubt consider that to be an 'evil behaviour'. How are you going to prove them wrong?

That's sad. He listened to the manipulation people are using to make redifining marriage a way to validate gay people as people. When really all it is doing is validating their actions as acceptable to society. Loving v. Virginia comes to mind when I hear arguments against gay marriage. Those couples committing miscegenation should have just settled for civil unions, as the majority of god fearing people found their mixing of the races as immoral. Like those of the day argued, not so long ago, just like you do so now, no rights were being violated. They could still marry who they wanted, so long as it was someone of their own race. I guess those people wanted to have their "evil" behavior" accepted.
I regret to inform you that marriage is now overseen by the government... not exactly a new development. I guess there are negatives on both sides of the fusion-of-church-and-state coin, as society, and therefore the government, is taking marriage in a way a certain sector doesn't approve of. Don't operate under the illusion that you live in a monolithic culture.

The actual issue of equality lies within what happened in May when 4 judges in San Francisco overturned the vote of over 4 million on the very issue. Is it equal and fair that 4 people can dictate what the majority of the people want otherwise? Our forefathers fought for independence from unequal and misrepresented judicial rulings. Get your equality back and vote Yes on Prop. 8.
Our founding fathers also put faith in the judicial branch to override the tyranny of the majority. Should judges override the legislated social injustices of the people? It has, and by God's grace may it never fail in this duty

Conservatives claim there is an active conspiracy to indoctrinate kids into accepting homosexuality, which in their mind, turns people gay. This evokes a powerful protective response in parents. This might explain why blacks, who tend to have children earlier than other ethnic groups making more of them parents, and older people, voted for prop 8 and other constitutional revisions like it.

I am a straight man. I don't have any issues with being gay or anything of the sort. I cried like a baby during this video. It was like watching a microcosm of social evolution unfurl in a matter of minutes. When I doubt this country and it's majority views, all it takes is something like this to reel me back in and make me feel better.

It's hard to come out as gay, right, but sometimes I think it's harder for people to come out as supportive of gay marriage when they don't have to, especially when they grew up in or are still in an environment where there's pressure to be against it.

Domestic partnerships and civil unions don't grant the same federal rights of marriage. For example a gay domestic partner ( or in a civil union) cannot sponsor his partner (if this partner is not american).

You can't vote another persons basic civil rights away no matter how much you hate. Even if 8 passes it will be challenged in the Supreme Court and then all the State marriage bans will be thrown out in one decision. Separate church and hate vote No on 8!!!

"Yes" on Prop 8!
No rights are taken away from gay couples (family code 297.5). They can even still engage in ceremonies and call it a wedding. Proposition 8 is an issue about families and children. There is an overwhelming amount of sociological evidence demonstrating that children in a traditional home have the highest chances of doing well by all measures. I don't think we know enough about same-gender attraction to legally and lawfully allow those couples to raise children.

Most of those for prop 8 actually believe wickedness never was happiness. We believe perverting the laws of nature is wicked. We believe we are all children of God, and that He has given everyone a way to bear their burdens, and that inappropriate sexual tendencies are just that- a burden.
We all have burdens. Some of us succumb to them, some of us learn and grow by working through them.
We just don't want to be part of a society that accepts succumbing.

That's sad. He listened to the manipulation people are using to make redifining marriage a way to validate gay people as people. When really all it is doing is validating their actions as acceptable to society. He just took a crucial step in destroying the framework of society- defining disapproval of a behavior as disapproval of the person themselves.

Do you actually have the audacity and gaul to say that gays and lesbians aren't people? Are we second class citizens even though we pay the same taxes as you and follows the same laws? How is it, that because I am a natural born citizen, I have the capability to become president of the United States, but cannot get married under your belief system? How is it, that by our country's laws I can lead this entire country and represent it to the rest of the world, but not marry someone that I love?

I direct this question to the women voting Yes. How willing would you be to give up your right to vote? And to the married couples: How willing would you be to give up your marriage?

About how many men thinking women shouldn't vote- apparently it wasn't the majority- because ta-da- we can vote.
About voting yes. It doesn't take any rights to vote away.
And to me personally, if I was in a marriage that the majority of "God-fearing" people considered sinful, maybe I would be more than happy to shun their institution and call MY relationship a civil union.
No rights are being changed here. What this is, is a demand of gay people for everyone to accept evil behavior.

Loving v. Virginia comes to mind when I hear arguments against gay marriage. Those couples committing miscegenation should have just settled for civil unions, as the majority of god fearing people found their mixing of the races as immoral. Like those of the day argued, not so long ago, just like you do so now, no rights were being violated. They could still marry who they wanted, so long as it was someone of their own race. I guess those people wanted to have their "evil" behavior" accepted.

I regret to inform you that marriage is now overseen by the government... not exactly a new development. I guess there are negatives on both sides of the fusion-of-church-and-state coin, as society, and therefore the government, is taking marriage in a way a certain sector doesn't approve of. Don't operate under the illusion that you live in a monolithic culture.
Consider how ridiculous you would find it to call Christian beliefs 'evil behaviour', and you'll start to see the flaws in logic...

The actual issue of equality lies within what happened in May when 4 judges in San Francisco overturned the vote of over 4 million on the very issue. Is it equal and fair that 4 people can dictate what the majority of the people want otherwise? Our forefathers fought for independence from unequal and misrepresented judicial rulings. Get your equality back and vote Yes on Prop. 8.

Our founding fathers also put faith in the judicial branch to override the tyranny of the majority. Should judges override the legislated social injustices of the people? It has, and by God's grace may it never fail in this duty
