  • I think this is a demonstration of the just intonated guitar. I would like to also hear all the different chords that are exactly in tune.

  • - also, does anyone Know where I can learn how to tap like steve at 01:48 ?

  • Hehe, I wonna play as good as Steve, it's going to take a long time though

  • Something happened with Vai where his playing became less and less meaningful. As great of a person and a musician as he is, I have tuned him out over the years and go to his earlier stuff (from Whitesnake to Sex & Religion) for inspiration. Someone gave me Where the Wild Things Are and I had to stop watching because it was completely ridiculous. Vai is close to becoming a caricature of himself

  • @evalex71 I totaly agree with you.Especially on "where the wild..." it seems,as if he forgot how much the human ear can take. It's just too much. The range from those ultra distorted violins over the screaming leads down to the 7string vs. bass rythm section is more than my ears can put in place.Honestly,I am willing but unable to enjoy it.And his records became more and more overproduced. It is like everything should be in front.Just to be fair:he's still one of the most exiting players.

  • To damned much whammy and pointless noodling......that is NOT music. Annoying.

  • @TeenCretin im sorry did u not see demonstration in the title, have you never sat down and messed around with a guitar. I highly reccomend a look at his actual songs, and btw whammy is his style doesn't make it any less musical. A lot of his whammy is very precise, when learning a piece of his I looked and he actually used the whammy bar to equal out the sound differences as well as substitute for a bend, or just a transition. Happy day.

  • @BenitutuORstfu I stand by my comment....I've been playing guitar for 30 years. He is pretty much devoid of good guitar ideas...he lacks imagination and intelligence in his playing...in short...he a guitar wanker. Satriani is MUCH more imaginative. Vai is pretty darned boring.

  • @TeenCretin right...u didnt listen to him and if u did ur stupid nuff said

  • these twisted frets are amazing

  • Аааа. Это божественно!

  • el mejor instrumentista de la historia de la raza humana hasta hoy...gracias steve por darle la libertad al sonido...

  • Steve Vai = Electric soap

  • What strange frets!

  • genius

  • only joe satriani can match his brilliance

  • @shredmaster100 he cant... :)

  • eric johnson is better

  • i have tabs!

  • @mightydragon07 You're

  • @Moot1983 what? i didnt even write that.

  • guy has if not the most unique style, definitely one of em. I wish i had a .25 of the talent he did

  • 1:38 fuck!!! fuck!! he is actually human!

  • ギターひとつで世界を作ってしまうとは・・・

    さすがですな(^^)

    でも音が硬いから耳が痛いw

  • wow it was so melodic. I'm going to be singing this all day tomorrow at work.

  • i have the tabs...........

  • more cheek sucking steve!

  • pure noise!!!

  • Is Steve Vai a freemason? because of the whole "Eye in the Piramyd" stuff...

  • @ordepcbmt He isn't. He is not in the list of freemasons, which can be found anywhere online. Freemason membership is pretty public. =) Plus, 'Eye in the Pyramid' is even in the US one dollar note. Conspiracy theorists may take great pleasure in that, but in reality, the founding fathers of the US were Masons. =) Anyway, you can't say someone is a mason just because he uses triangles and eyes in his logo. =/

  • I want to hire him for my son's barmitzvah... And I don't even have a son.

  • noise with talent

  • Why i can't do that!!!???? Ohh, i'm human....

  • some of the stuff steve does just sounds like someone that doesn't know how to play experimenting with a guitar for the first time, i know it takes skill to play like vai but honestly most of his stuff sounds like shit

  • really? i just hear noise... if you want to hear real guitarrist find for david guilmour, b b king, that kind stuff

  • @MicroMike90 hahaha you´re funny...Batio is just a malmsteen´s wannabe

  • I spent two weeks learning this note for note on harmonica.....everyone sez it sucks.

  • impresionante lo que hace este señor , un sonido de otro planeta , increible!!!!

  • among every guitar heros i know, this is the one with the smoothiest guitare sound/playing, it's like you re on a plane wing with the storm in your face, but weirdly it feels good and fresh !!!

  • can someone tell me how he did this sound at 1:58?

  • @link1nparkEEEwarrock you can make a sound like that by pulling the tremolo arm up and then let it fall down without holding it anymore. so the tremolo lever falls without any resistance and causes the springs to vibrate wich makes that very special sound!

  • if you wanna play like him, you do need a teacher, no way..... i can show you one of the best... ask me by email :)

  • per fare queste cose che c'avrà nella testa ? :) hehehe

  • i m not very fan of the playing of steve vai but its very impressionnant

  • what is it that make this sound makes it sounds so phlegmy? I cant figure it out! does anyone know what i mean by that?

  • 0:35 i saw myself

  • the only weakness of Steve is the alternate picking.i'm not saying he sucks at,but in comparison to his magnificent legato technique and tapping, his picking really is nothing.also his left hand is by far the most technical i've ever seen on guitar.

  • @Luciano7Franco True, He has abandon it to a dregee now, but it wasn't always this way. In the 80s he was Yngwies replacement in Alakatraz and had to play all his parts. One of the reasons he does not play like that anymore is in south america he injured his arm makeing this very hard. watch Steve in WA D.C. P.S sorry if you already knew this..

  • so much oringinality in his style

  • Title should be how to have sex with your guitar by VaiHimself.

  • Steve Vai "Demon"stration of Guitar.

  • his sound is so awesome

  • Супер класс!

  • 1:58 sounded cool as hell

  • I can't judge it his talent with ridiculous compliments... i can only say:

    STEVE VAI

  • If that's just him worming up god help us all

  • @ICEMANdrake214 Worming up? What the hell is worming up? Maybe he should see a vet & get it sorted out.

  • @whitbyjet65 Warming up, retard.

  • @ElectricGuitarify I suggest the person who typed 'worming up' is the retard....along with you, of course. Now go away & practice that exotic yoga position that includes the head & the anus.

  • @whitbyjet65 LMFAO

  • @whitbyjet65 Nah...its just a spelling mistake... on the keyboard a is right next to......ohh wait...... xaxaxaxaa

  • @whitbyjet65 You obviously don't know the world of guitar well enough. Worming is a common phrase often used by people who can't spell at all. Ever. Get with the times!

  • I just realized how much Vai sounds like Vai ...

From Flex-able up to now he's ... Steve Vai!

And probably was even before he played with Zappa.

Steve will always be the Stevest!!! :D

    So don't go there ...

unless you wan't to be a clone haha!

  • なんだよヴァイバニーズってwwwwww

  • i love you steve you the man

  • Prince is a Prince. Steve Vai is a music king.

  • wow he got true temperament fretting system

  • @BurninAss That's what the "demonstration" is for.

  • Estilo muito próprio.. incrível.

  • look at frets on his gitar !!

  • I swear...I think Billy the Exterminator is his long lost brother....looks that is.

Vai is awesome! Realize, he has a lot of pedal-work going on it any song....but he's just a guitar maniac! How many hours did this guy just sit in his room and learn every facet and nuance? He's simply amazing!

  • Please don't get me wrong but... I love some Vai songs like Gentle ways, For the love of God etc. but this... It's owfull... What is he playing here anyway? Once again don't get me wrong Steve is great composer but this is what I just don't understand...

  • best player with the whammy bar since eddie

  • @RIPLatashaHarlins van halen? all he ever did was divebombs...

  • @rickyjshiznit Not quite. And Eddie for the earlier part of his career, didnt have a floyd rose floating bridge. Its hard to pull up on a whammy bar the cant lift up. Im not gettting into a youtube arguement without some guy on the internet about whos the best player bud, I've got better stuff to do with my time.

  • @RIPLatashaHarlins first of all, you dont lift up the bridge to do divebombs, theres a couple in eruption that were played using a standard fender bridge. second, eddie did practically nothing musical with the floyd roses, all of it was divebombs/noise/et cetera.

  • Lol at the "meh" face at the end

  • Wow he plays just like Steve Vai!

  • @macman8680 wtf bro?! XD hahahahahaa

  • Can you call this music? or is he just excercising his fingers, sorry but what an awful toneand sound of guitar ,that distortion is so saturated.

  • I love his playing, I just don't like it when he bends notes with the whammy to a note that is not relevant to the key or scale, he knows its not right but he does it just because he doesnt care.

  • The word "demonstration " has been redefined.

  • hey hes got true temperment on his fretboard, woh i didnt know he used that...

  • steve- your technique is brilliant but your sound and songwriting suck...it's hurting my ears even as i type this...

  • @44inchvertical I totally agree with you 100%

  • Damn! He's freaking awesome!!

  • Can someone explain to me why his frets are like that.

  • @TheLimpCottonToeBook so that the guitar is tuned perfectly to every string and not just one chord

  • @TheLimpCottonToeBook

The scalloped fretboard guitar is an instrument combining qualities of the South Indian vina and the steel string guitar

  • @TheLimpCottonToeBook

The scalloped fretboard guitar is an instrument combining qualities of the South Indian vina and the steel string guitar. Copied and pasted. Some Luthiers can scallop frets. My uncle did it to his banjo's for speed. I believe it is done to give the worn in feel for speed without the old neck problems. Buzz, lift, noodle, warp

  • @vasam05 Vai scallops his frets up top to allow more room for bending without fretting out.

  • can someone explain those frets?

  • @CODMW219 Watch the ''Steve Vai private gear tour'' - He says they are designed by some guy in order to keep the guitar in tune, no matter which chord you play.

  • Steve Vai is gay??

  • 1 @lamaquinadeltiempo1 NO.Is Superhuman!!

  • @lamaquinadeltiempo1 No, he has a wife and 2 or 3 children... What makes you think he's gay??!

  • @lamaquinadeltiempo1 No, he has a wife and 2 or 3 children... What makes you think he's gay?!

  • I just miss him playing some really fast and clean alternate picking stuff..It has to be all weirdness and slides and being "passionate" with the wang bar all the time..

  • @Chris741113 I kind of agree with you. But still though, this fucking technique is just impossible! Damn he is so good!

  • @jacksamuk

Yeah, of course its insanely impressive stuff. And I dont mind it in itself, but I just miss the time when he used to break up this kind of playing with some super clean and sometimes a bit exotic sounding alternate picking runs..Like back in the Passion And Warfare days.. Or even his stuff with David Lee Roth.

  • @Chris741113 You got a good point there. But thats all about Steve, he doesn't care, no limits for him. He wants to improve even more his technique. And he is always learning more and more, and that is insane. Cuz I can't think what more he can do or learn. He is just in another level. Far Above from most guitar players.

I like the way he puts feelings in the song. EVen when its something weird, he really is in to it. And that is just Music. I totaly like that way of thinking...

  • @Chris741113 That's his style you dolt. Why would you want him to play in an unoriginal and boring way instead of an innovative way?

  • @moneyquickeasy

Its his NEW style then, because his playing these days are nothing compared to his playing on Passion and Warfare..You call his playing on P&W "unoriginal" and "Boring" hu? Not to mention his playing woth David Lee Roth, also great to me, but apparently "Boring" to you. Loser.

  • Unless you have sold 10 million albums of awesome guitar music dont criticise even real guitar critics dont talk such crap.

  • When Frank Zappa calls on a guitarist to play the impossible riffs, I think nobody can consider him less than a full on master of the instrument. Frankly, this music is beyond most guitarists and let's just ignore the trolls.

  • caraio.Esse cara é o CROSS!!!!!

  • Those tempered frets! ZHEY ARR KROOKAD!

  • @RIFFSUAREZ Not sure if Klaus from American Dad or just German...

  • Who cares if people say hes a douche??? The man is in the top 3 guitarists in the HISTORY of music. when you get that damn good, you can act however you want

  • I like Vai's work, but I more prefer it when he does music with full band, not just him and guitar like this ...

  • 1:37 Vai proves he's human

  • @magnetobe ?

  • malmsteen made 45 accounts to dislike this

  • @giosafatscura Malmsteen is a friend of Steve Vai...

  • @iCorentin yeah, they also swapped guitars so malmsteen has one of vai's jems and steve has

    one of malmsteens strats. :)

p.s.~ is anyone else bothered how the japanese produce these learning dvds? it;s like they just tell the guitarists to make an example part right on the spot. it still somewhat sounds nice, but it's just random licks of whateverness. it be nicer if they approached the guitarist with a set of ideas to perform.

  • @giosafatscura noo he have got 50 accounts ;)

  • @giosafatscura he made 6 more actually :P

  • @giosafatscura dude, malmsteem's awesome!

  • @giosafatscura Please; I don't know much about it but why Malmsteen don't like Steve Vai??

  • @giosafatscura vai and malmsteen are buddies dude.

  • is man is a MONSTER!!

  • hes a douche but he can play

  • 1st year guitar stuff, totally ordinary

  • the guy at 2:39 it's thinking "I better go before my brain melt down"

  • He hasn't named it yet.... Or maybe it's just too special to name.

  • @fmhqbattousai Its called "The Vaibanez! lol

  • @maninaboysbody no that just sounds like a generic dildo name......lol

  • @maninaboysbody Is it just me or has anyone noticed that these are all incredibly ridiculous sounds....I mean really...It's like Nigel Tufnel after a year of Slonimsky studies...chords...please,,just a couple

  • @doowopdiddler That is why he's THE MASTER!!

  • @fmhqbattousai If I'm not mistaken I believe when "Where the Wild Things Are" came out on DVD he had named it EvoII

  • @fmhqbattousai its either evo or flo

  • @holyass242 actually neither :) this is the guitar True-Temporment sent him

  • @TheSantanaLee actually true tempoirment is the name of the company that makes the frets/fretboards. so thats the part they made and hes haveing them make the frets on app his guitars now

  • omg really? he makes it look effortless

  • awesome

  • Ses frettes ?

  • Comment removed

  • What guitar is that? Is it the JEM7VWH?

  • hmmm. let's be honest, his playing is messy and he doesnt really connect with the music he's playing. if you wish to see a nice soulfull instrumental piece then i suggest you check out this vid of my playing at /watch?v=NIFblN5hgUs&feature=related

  • @KillRshred I agree but thats just the way he plays. Some like it, some don't. (I personmally don't) Joe Satriani is better in my opinion.

  • @KillRshred I respectfully disagree, in this video yeah he is just messing around. But his music in general is very passionate, songs like "Whispering a Prayer" & "Tender Surrender" are very beautiful. Yeah there is some shredding he does in both especially tender surrender lol. But overall i think he is a great musician.

  • @KillRshred Dont watch this guys channel...it's a complete waste of time and his playing sounds like a 3 year old kid playing the guitar.

  • @KillRshred I checked out you channel cause of your comment, fool me! I hope you're joking and not insanely delusional

  • Drops the tone on the arm then lets go so the springs ring.

  • how does he do the thing at 1:44 ?

  • @guitarboy202 Thast was cool actually.

  • he is a dj

  • STEELFORCEGUITARIST check out this guys guitar videos !

  • STEELFORCEGUITARIST

  • I imagined Steve sitting in my room playing this on my cheap Charvel guitar. What a dream...

  • sonofabitch!...motherfucker can play...\m/\m/

  • paul gilbert would call him : cheater .... pick every note ! :P

  • @math1st but gilbert always uses legato. you just dont notice it because hes fucking insane

  • @julZZs69 lolll u didnt understand my point i believe, when vai is running up n down on a legato he's picking the first note and hammer/pull-off on the others ..... paul gilbert is picking every single note, and this why paul gilbert would call steve vai a cheater, because he's not picking every note and its WAY easier

  • @math1st yer i still dont understand. but the conclusion is that there both insane

  • @julZZs69 lol ur irhgt they're both amazing !!

  • @math1st It has nothing to do with easier or not...it just depend on what you are aiming for...picking everything really has that attack to it...that shredders use like Petrucci or Gilbert....Satch and Vai go for that smooth sound by using legato more. They put more weight on their fretting hand...Gilbert and Petrucci more on their right hand. It has nothing to do with difficulty. Playing legato like Vai takes a lot of fretting hand power...speedpicking takes a lot of precision from the pickhand

  • @PhilosopherOnWeed ive been playing for 10 years, and i find easier to run down a legato with h/p than picking each notes and make it sound as good

  • @math1st Advanced legato is much harder than advanced speed picking in my opinon. Why? Legato you have to be able to hammer-on, pull-off, slide, and go to the next string without creating excess noise, it's basically training your right hand to the point of perfection, while speed picking you only need to be able to move your fingers where you need them. Although don't get me wrong speed picking is hard when you get to advanced triplet and quintuplet runs. But they're both a must learn technique

  • @hensleyohensley advanced i guess it depends on the player bro ! haha, i started playing like vai with a lot of slide and bend and h/p and i learned that way, now im more praticiing my picking and this is why i find it harder i guess ! ....... ive been playing with more experience people in my life and each time a was running down scales without picking people told me : aaa ur cheating, pick every one of them ! hahaha

  • @math1st Well even if picking all notes would be harder...(which I find not) it doesn't matter...Legato sounds way smoother and nicer instead of picking everything. And that's what matters in the end anyways.

  • @PhilosopherOnWeed It doesnt sound ''as good'' because it sounds different. So its in the ears of the beholder...and Legato automatically sounds smoother...there is no discussion possible.

  • @math1st Typical shredders I'd have to say. I've learned both legato and speed picking and although it seems alot harder to speed pick at first, being able to get that smooth liquid legato I've found much more difficult that speed picking passages. Alternative picking is sort of something you practice and after awhile your hand gets synchronized, but learning legato took me well over 6 months of practicing daily for consecutive hours. There's alot to legato that people look past, it is hard lol

  • @hensleyohensley Agreed.

  • Satrianis legato sliding and such is an example of strong legato rather than Vai, hes more for variable trilling, and awkward exotic sweep arpeggios. Of all 3 major techniques, alternative picking, legato, and sweeping, I'd say legato was the hardest to learn, and the hardest to master. but your right, could be based off opinion.

  • he looks like julia roberts A LOT!! hahahaha

  • At the end, he's all like, "Whatever, man... Can I have a sandwich now?"
