  • life was so hard for people in salford back then, this song reminds me of my grandads childhood, and if i hear it after ive been drinking,it makes me cry me eyes out1

  • This reminds me of when I was a kid. My Mam had a CD of oldish songs and this was one of them. It was my favourite song on the CD. I always hated the end when he dies, I thought it was so sad.

  • This was no.1 in the charts on the day I was born. Hmmm shit song tbh.

  • A Wonderful Song about a Wonderful Artist. The old ways are gone and won't return. Respect for other people has nearly gone, technology has made us all uninterested in talking to each other and the Youth are lost. Pride in ones work is rare. I hope we can all learn from the past.

  • No people are wrong when they say you have to of lived in the 60's and 70's to understand this music! im 15 and i love it! snm,!

  • LOVE THIS ONE TOO XXXXXX

  • Amazing song and video :-) Many compliments :-D

  • I am named after this guy ^.^ xx

  • @missshaneilu lol :P

  • @ZurVoLT Aha yes, no lies!:3

  • Favourite song of all time, reminds me of my granddad :)

  • Wouldn't it be great to wake up in a year that an amazing artist seen through his very own eyes a place that you parents tell you about where the bobby would clip you around the ear if you was up to no good where marbles were played and and you had a stick and a wheel for fun. The music wasn't half bad as well. Sir Lowry I wish I was there!!!

  • great song about a real honest atist, not this modern art shit of today(a pile of bricks or empty packets of crisps or a stuffed cow) what the f is all that about.lowry has earned the right to be called an artist.

  • Fabulous.

  • take me back to the 70s as a kid. nice catchy song......

  • I bid 3 grand

  • Lowry was a breath of fresh air upon the art world.

  • mine and my dads song i used to listen to this with him when i was a mere nipper sitting on his knee rip dad you gave me some great memories xxx

  • i remeber this record years ago in the 70,s i was brought up in hull uk and it really relates to how life was all over the uk. good clean mischievous fun no muggings, raping and stealing. so well said schuzart. do you remember marbles on the tops of those metal square cover hole tops. what a blast from the past' this has to be the record that drags old time memories back.

  • I was born in 1965 and I like this tune. It makes me feel good

  • awesome

  • awsome

  • this song reminds me of my grandad, he was an artist too, love it :)

  • I have a Lowry and no amount of money in the world could buy it from me.

  • The song is great,

    The words are fantastic,

    The video is wonderful,

But the art is made from a dream.

    Beautiful.

  • i am enjoying a evening of the times when songs could be heard, instead of being drowned out by some strange music strangling them, i am back in the days of 60s/70s, the days may be gone, but the singers and songs will live forever x

  • Well said the last 2 people yes we had freedom .You could be out all day without a problem or a clip round the ear from a copper then one from dad when he took you home.Yeah the good old days r i p nuf said

  • I was only 2 when this came out, I had the record though.

  • Fantastic song, this was played at my Father in law funeral :( R.I.P BILL

  • Mr Lowry was customer of mine when I worked in a bank in Pendlebury where he lived. By coincidence a schoolfriend of mine Phil Hampson was the producer for this record. Two very nice men.

  • @quatt47 Wow, Thats quite a story, your lucky to have met such an amazing artist i envy you :)

  • Salford... end of...

  • We sing this is at school!

  • Beautiful song

  • used to sing this at junior school nice to hear it done properly

  • Only if you have lived through the 60's and 70's can you really appreciate appreciate why this music and many others from the period touches the way it does. Remebering a life of fun and freedom. Going out and climbimg trees, scrabbling around in coal heaps, Morris Minors and Ford Anglias, no computers, no mobile phones, digital watches were just being invented. No playstation,.just great fun that we made for ourselves. Thankyou for posting.

  • @schuzart i was born in 1985 and i really appreciate this music. music touches everyone of all ages

  • @kit69fisto - I know the music touches people of all ages, and its good to know that people appreciate music of all types, my point is exactly what Festivelights says, "that we were the last generation that enjoyed and made the most of our 'freedom'. Since the late 80's there has been a slow decline of our freedoms, and especially with the Health and Saftey and Politically Correct Brigade, they have destroyed the freedoms we had, and there are now generations of youngsters missing out.

  • @schuzart It will return...

  • @schuzart WELL SAID BUD.

  • @schuzart Very well said mate. I was dragged up on a council estate in Chesterfield and we had sooooo much fun. Pine winging in the local wood, building dens and playing war on rubbish tips, street cricket, playing football in the church yard, hares and hounds, British Bulldogs, and don't even get me started on Bonfire Night and Christmas. Golden days and the magic ingredient was 'freedom'. I said for years, that we were the last generation that enjoyed and made the most of our 'freedom'.

  • @schuzart i love this song and i was born in 73.

i loved all the songs my dad n mum listened to.

my dad was a pretty decent country singer, his group came second to shawaddywaddy for a place on oppertunity knocks

  • @schuzart couldn`t have put it better myself. You summed it up perfectly. Happy days which will sadly never come again.

  • @schuzart WELL SAID MY FRIEND MEMORIES ,GOT SOME GOODENS THE BEST TIME. YOU GOT MY THUMBS UP.

  • @schuzart

  • I remember this song

  • Yes I am listening to this in 2011

No I'm not going to press any number on my keyboard I'm not going to thumbs up your comment

    No I don't care what's wrong with 4,208 people

No I don't care about you 'raping' a button

No I was not sent here by someone else

Music is there to be listened and appreciated, unfortunately there are people out there who just don't see that. The music industry is becoming more about marketing and less about musical quality.Oh how I appreciate this

  • My college is just off ancoats!!! Manc for life!!

  • "Lowry twice declined appointment to the Order of the British Empire: as an Officer (OBE) in 1955, and as a Commander (CBE) in 1961. He turned down a knighthood in 1968, and appointment to the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) in 1972 and 1976. He appears to hold the record for the most honours declined."

  • @parkyjjb tosser im irish so feel the same way about you,ya nonce

  • makes me cry this song does cuz its about death

  • @209Ellie No it's not ABOUT death, its about the artist's life and the lives he wanted to show. It's a very positive song, because even though he's dead now, his paintings live on and show people and lives nobody wanted to paint, ordinary working class people.

    Its a lovely little song

  • simple song perfect life and somewhat emotional

  • Makes the sister in law cry this one. Played it one news year eve once without knowing.

  • lowry's picture are iconic.

  • rent collection

  • Wait, you're racist? How small minded are you kid? I, as I intend, live happy. I don't feel the need on hating on anyone. I don't give one shit if someone's black, brown or fucking white, we're all born on the earth. Mate, live your fucking life in enjoyment.

Also, it doesn't matter how you spell the word English, it won't drastically effect your life ffs, just live it, that's all I say.

If you're unquestionably racist, ask yourself why most forigners hate us.

  • @kennetht04 Mate, I'm far from racist! I'm having a ding-dong with a fucking fascist twat on here! It's mostly bullshit, trying to make the idiot realise how stupid he is lol.

I enjoy my life, and I LOVE the fact that, most of the time, everybody in this country gets along fine.

It's dickheads like this yorkie6687 that want to ruin it, and people like him are the reason why we are hated all over the world.

    Have a nice day mate

  • @kennetht04 Please don't use this very bad language on this channel.

What you may not realise, is that the originator of this channel,Caerleonman, passed away a couple of years ago.

Somehow (the channel) still seems to be here, and in true British tradition, we should maintain some respect.

  • @seftonwallet that is so true

  • Mick who sings this song, was a friend of one of my friends. When my friend passed away, Mick sang this song in the chapel, changing the lyrics to celebrate my friends life. He did a fantastic job. everybody in Church was laughing as they remembered the deceased with great affection. R.I.P. Harry.

  • The first time I ever heard this song was by the Irish Rovers. It was the B side of Wasn't that a Party.

  • God bless these people, because this shithole government

would rather we not show our Engliscs-ness, fuck 'em!

I am Englisc and fucking proud of it!

  • @yorkie6687 Even though you can't spell ENGLISH???? Moron

  • @brad130978 Listen up cunt-face, our true spelling of Englisc is Englisc , you wanna argue you

uneducated prick, then go to the Anglo-Saxon Foundation site and make sure you bring us a bacon

butty then we know you are not a fucking SCUZLIM twatface!!!!

  • @yorkie6687 Surprise surprise....racist as well as stupid. Listen, you dog-fucking, pig-loving piece of ignorant shit. We are not living in Anglo-Saxon times, this is the 21st century. My masters degree in linguistics tells me that the correct, current spelling of the word is ENGLISH. My family has lived in this country since the 14th century, so don't, ever, try and tell me what it is to be ENGLISH. You sister-raping, dad-sucking excuse for a man.

Join me in Afghanistan, for a chat

  • @brad130978 Racist, you bet bet you're bottom fucking dollar I am racist, I HATE everythng

that is not Englisc, and if you wza

  • @yorkie6687 If you want to take me on son, post your address on here and I'll pay you a visit when I get home.

Or are you only brave on the internet?

    Prick.

  • @Kittielips But isn't this song from 1977? I know it wasn't THAT long ago but some people might have spoken like that then. Maybe and if it isn't I guess it just sounds better like that. Stop complaining, enjoy it,or go ruin someone elses time

  • @HermyGranger3

'ave yer lost track o' time? We still talk like that now!

    Ta.......

    Jennie.

  • great lyrics. great track. great memories bought back.. thanks for putting up. not heard for years....

  • thinking... MR Benn

  • Lowry was brilliant! If I had to money to buy good art it would be Lowry's work. I place his art way above Picasso and his kind. I don't even consider Picasso's work as art.

I bought the 45 record when it first came out and thought it was awesome, then, and still do.

  • i have decided not to read any spiteful comments because they are prob too boring. however i would like to say how much I love this song, it brings back some very happy memories. i have to admit this song used to make me cry

    thanks for posting

    x

however a loveley song and nice memmories

    cannot believe spiteful comments

maybe they should do something useful with thier lives

may i be the first to suggest decapitation !!

  • What a gem of a song. Childhood memories can't be bought at any price, but this is and always will be part of my memory bank. Sitting in back room in 'our house' listening to this on my late dad's radio, listening to my late mum singing gently to the music brings it all back. Such beautiful simple paintings too.

    Memories are made of this....

  • this song is so good even after this long it still makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end........as for the idiots that post on here........you dont like the songs.......go to a different site and leave the civilised people alone
