The crowd basically ignore the band..and they are really different, mostly because of Daniel. The crowd seems lost and uninterested for this "new" band. It's not silverchair, it's Daniel's solo project inspired by his lover Paul Mac

It's not. The last time his voice sounded similar to 2001 and before was June of 2003. Since then, the smokes and the alcohol and screwing with the pronunciations of the words have made him sound FAR different and not in a good way.

I know he can't help that his voice has changed, but it is really sad. You can't even begin to compare 1:52-1:57 to past performances.. that used to be my favorite line in this song just because of the way he sang it. :( Oh well.. I still love them.

BTW...YM songs are much, MUCH harder to sing properly than Diorama songs. Diorama has higher notes, but YM has much deeper tones. It seems like people are upset that he has to go falsetto in the chorus now, but IMO, the big note he hits at the end of the song is far more impressive than what he misses.

Exactly. His voice has changed. But it's no better or worse. He had more nuance and elasticity in his voice in the Diorama era. Now it's deeper, boomier and carries farther. Take your pick.

people never seem to realize that even this song is 6+ years old. Daniel Johns has been through so much as far as personal and health problems are concerned. People should be happy that he is still able to perform as great as he still does. And for everyone complainnig blaming his vocals on smoking that shit is dumb considering everyone loved his voice during the Diorama touring era and during that time Daniel Johns was smoking mad amounts of reefer.

Well smoking does alter you voice... Over time and not only that the man has nodules on his vocal chords that's why he still sounds good when he sings songs like tuna in the brine. But sounds like shit when he tries to sing some of his more vocal demanding songs like the greatest view. he can not tap into that range anymore. Freddie Mercury stopped smoking in 1990 and got all his vocal range back listen to Innuendo.

then he died a year later of Aids. I dont like Queen or Freddy Mercury so I cant tell when vocals sucked and when they were top notch. I doubt they sounded at their best a year before he died when he was really sick with the HIV virus. Ive listened to lots of Queen and I dont like his vocals at all. Hes got nothing on Daniel Johns. I dont care if people thumbs me down or disagree with me . I also dont care if Daniel doesnt hit every note perfectly hes only human for fuck sakes

dude you totally missed the point i was trying to make. all i was saying was why destroy the sole means of how you make a living? daniel rocks and all but damn he was so much better than what he is now! but i bet you that if the next album doesn't do to well it will probably spell the end of silverchair. daniel plays it to safe YM is not a S-C record it's a dissociatives record. i am patiently waiting to see what the new album holds.

I dont think Young Modern sounds like The Disssociatives cd. In fact The Dissociatives cd is better its mroe dark and experimental. m not even sure there will be a next Silverchair cd and if there is one it will most likely not come out til 2011/2012 or some shit. No matter how good the next Silverchair does if it does come out it will probably be their last cd. I was suprised they even made Young Modern. Theres some good songs on it but its the first SC cd where I didnt like every song on it
