@DaveWreckingCrew Luke said "stop treating me so good captain" then he said "don't you ever talk that way again NEVER, NEVER!" not nigger, gotta watch the movie bro its pretty good.
What we've got here is Failure to communicate *music starts to play* some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week, wich is the way he wants it. well he gets it! I don't like this anymore than you. *whistling*
@TheRattleSnake93 you're quite right, I've got so deeply associated these lines with GNR's Civil War song that whenever I listen to them I just wait for the song to start... actually I start hearing the song in my head... is quite strange...
@PestigeKelpone You must be a hardcore racist if what you see is clear as day white guy shouting "never " and whipping a white guy and think that it is a black guy saying nigger.
Well either a racist, hard of hearing, colorblind, or nearsighted..or all four
wow so its not an old toothless lady! now i havta watch cool hand luke in its entirety. gnr brought me here, hope the end of the movie is as epic as civil war song.
LOL this line JUST came out in the cleveland show and it reminded me of civil war by guns n roses so i decided to do a little research and here i am :D
The first time i heard this song was in Guns n' Roses - Civil War, i think it suited the song perfectly, but i have to admit, that when i first heard the line, i thought it was an old lady speaking at first. After a bit of research, i came upon this clip, and it totally blew me away when i found out that it was a male doing the line. Never the less this fucking epic as shit.
Although it may annoy some, I'm glad that people who have listened to the Guns N' Roses song are looking into the source more. This film is excellent.
t saw this when it came out....Up until this time..Strother Martin had NEVER played ANY violent or sadistic "In control" character.he BLEW the screen of the SCREEN...he was among the top 3 ALL time character actors EVER...terrific!
This is one of the best lines from one of the best films ever made. It's been ages since I've seen it, I was really young and my dad was into old films, even films older than him. I was still in the mentality a lot of people are sometimes in where old films are crap and old, but now that I have matured, I appreciate what film has to offer regardless of age. Cool Hand Luke is such an epic piece of cinema that will no doubt entertain people of all ages, you have my guarantee.
i'm 21 i love the "old" movies, and hate the shit that show on cinemas now days, only special effects and no storyline.i think that this particular movie it's a pìece of art.excuse my english i'm from argentina
Luke was en ex-serviceman disillusioned with the corrupt system, got drunk and screwed the top of some parking meters, so they gave him big time and he rebelled agin that, so they killed him. 'Failure to commincat'e is the whole system geared to get any Luke steppin outta line. Same as petty offender Nichloson in The Cuckoo's Nest - they don't like free-thinkers in their free democracies.
i've only watch this movie once in a few days ago, in a channel that show "old" movies and tv series, i i think that i'll never gonna see it again in tv..
the film it's excellent, but i still dont get if at the end luke dies or if he's got injured by the shot in the neck and it's on recovery in the prision's hospital (xcuse y english)
@gabilxc Catching up on your post. I believe that Luke is unofficially killed/fascist-state-executed as his big-buddy said (paraphrased) "They got Luke but he was a good ole boy".
are you kidding?have you ever go to school? shakespeare ends with "e" ignorant, read a bit more man and think before show your stupidity to the whole net
why the hell have i got thumbs down? i never saw the film only heard it on civil war, and donnt try and tell me that it cannot be mistaken for an old womans voice
My dad said I should watch this movie I was a young teen at the time. It looked old and I wasn't too interested at first. I did sit down and watch and I loved it. A great movie in any decade.
no - a segueway is what comes next. (i.e. Queen's song "We Are the Champions" should segueway right after "We Will Rock You") After the failure to communicate line, GnR go into the song, "Civil War"
I actually took the " What we have here is a failure to communicate, some men you just can't reach" part and recorded it on my voice mail for my cell phone Now whenver I get a phoner call that is what you get right before my message. Freaking Hilarious if you ask me, LOL!!!!!!!!!!
you would've had to have lived in the pre-1970's south or at the very least studied that culture to truely appreciate the genious of s martin's acting here... throughout the movie, he played an amped up version of the tenn williams big daddy southern patriarch template.. a unique & nasty form of patronizing w/ daddy jovial vibe yet emasculating men to boys.. those that fight back get vicious reprisal.. if u know the old south, u know this is spot on.
Magnus27, The "failure to comunicate" line is listed as one of those top movie quote things, the song sung by Newman is listed as a favorite scene by fans. For some reason, the car wash scene is not as talked about as much as the other great scenes.
This is the kind of thing we should be doing to prisoners now. Work 'em until they drop and if they don't like that, beat their brains out with a slap jack until they do.
I'm surprised they haven't tried to remake this with Jude Law or Matt Damon as Luke. :-(
