They believe, along with doctors, that he was high on LSD (which the hospital didn't check for, regardless of what the women says) Because of the drugs the taser didn't take effect at first so they tased him again at which point he tried to get away and fell over the railing.
To be honest, I don't buy that part of the story. It seems like it was tacked on there by the cops.
If anything, I believe the kid was not just incapacitated from the back injury, but may have been rendered unconscious from the fall as well. The cops tasered the boy because he couldn't comply.
The cops' claim of the kid saying disturbing things as justification for tasering him reminds me of Uncle Jimbo screaming "It's coming right for us!"

I live in Springfield just outside Ozark, MO. Yeah. This was a big thing there. Ozark is relatively small town. Missouri police seem to be going Taser crazy. In fact, just northwest of Springfield at Camdenton, MO just yesterday. Police tased an old man who burst forced his way into a home there and then left and was standing in the yard next door. Police tazed him and a few moments later he stopped breathing and died.

I work as an RN and deal with sick and demented patients all the time, people do weird things when they are "blacked out" or "delirium". Why do people say 'a tasers is better than a bullet' they are two different tools for two different situation, guns are used when a suspect poses a lethal threat to the cops, or to someone else. Tasers are used to get people to Comply. With that said, I don't appreciate the government saying it's OK for cops to play Russian roulette, with our lives. Yeah, I'm sure a guy who is severely injured with a broken back and probably can't move at all is really a significant threat to himself and to a group of police officers. Fuckin cops! I'm glad I'm not one of them anymore. Tazers were originally created to be used by cops for "self-defense" or to protect innocent people who are being attacked. Now police departments find it perfectly acceptable to use them for "compliance". If a cop tells you to get up off the ground or get out of your car and you say "fuck you" or simply don't respond, they taze you. They keep tazing you until you respond to commands. That's probably similar to this story! Total abuse of power!

SOOOO much information not here. Was he unable to move-type broken back or did he just have a stress fracture-type broken back? How mobile was he? How agitated was he - ie: could he have not noticed the pain from the fall and behaved like someone not injured at all? I'm reserving judgement on these officers until I know. I do know, however, that if someone wants to get froggy with me on the side of a highway, I'm gonna immobilize them through any means to keep us both out of traffic.

I live in Springfield just outside Ozark, MO. Yeah. This was a big thing there. Ozark is relatively small town. Missouri police seem to be going Taser crazy. In fact, just northwest of Springfield at Camdenton, MO just yesterday. Police tased an old man who burst forced his way into a home there and then left and was standing in the yard next door. Police tazed him and a few moments later he stopped breathing and died.

I love the final statements from the Police spokesman regarding "Keeping the child from getting hurt". I would say Multiple tazer shocks to the body constitute "hurt".
I work as an RN and deal with sick and demented patients all the time, people do weird things when they are "blacked out" or "delirium". How about all health care personnel get tazers for our out of control patients. I am sure we could find some cops to taze some old,sickly and malnourished patrons.

Why do people say 'a tasers is better than a bullet' they are two different tools for two different situation, guns are used when a suspect poses a lethal threat to the cops, or to someone else. Tasers are used to get people to Comply. With that said, I don't appreciate the government saying it's OK for cops to play Russian roulette, with our lives. Electricity, either volts, or amps, can stop a heart pretty easy. Applied electricity is cruel and unusual in any form.
