  • the Complete Guide to Navy SEAL Fitness got me the physical & mental preparedness to pioneer the Panama GWS. this will help me prepare for SCAN.

  • Hey Stew, how long ago did you go through BUDs? and how long is the indoctrination course before BUDs

  • Awesome Stew. Thx for your help.

  • He is not doing it effectively!)

  • ngano ni?

  • So If I wanted to practice drown proofing at the local pool should I just grab my wrist and cross my ankles?

  • Stew may I tell you thank you for serving America! I appreciate the time effort and service you give for mine and your families freedoms! HOOYAH!

  • Great Video and Wouldn't be even close to being prepared for buds if it wasn't for the great Stew Smith....Thanks for Everything!!!

  • Darn, I was getting my rope out. You mean we CAN'T tie bricks to us either!?

  • is this stroke intended to reduce splash in the water?

  • @Guacamole4sho It is intended to reduce water resisence or drag. making it efficent for long distance swimming, which is a big part of SEAL training.

  • @lilrat489 As a former swimmmer, seems like regular freestyle stroke would be much more efficient, however i guess it does change when you put swimming flippers on =)

  • Mr. Smith, I recently purchased you navy seal fitness workout...I am about to head into the intermediate phase, o yeah. I have a question though, during water PT do you all just push through water getting in your ears or does the combat side stroke provide the means of avoiding that altogether? I am just curious and appreciate any feedback

  • hahaha that's badass. I gotta try that

  • For combat swim you dont even need to take your arm out of the water to breathe...just fucking breathe pussies...not taking your hand out conceals your silhouette while in water

  • Hi,i would like to write e-mails to soldiers of any branch sending e-mails to them,i am from mexico and i love what u do...can u help me get some e-mails? i dont care who it is or age,if they are older better....thanks..Sandra♥

  • @mrReubenlegoman

For buds school, expect weekly 2 mile ocean swims, 3 mile runs, and a lot more p.t guaranteed to leave every muscle in your body aching

  • @armadyllah You can do it. Just depends on how much you're willing to work at it. "The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win" -Roger Bannister

  • the eggbeater can be very easy as long as you do it right. I find the it does not use up as much energy as most kicks

  • I'm having trouble synchronizing breathing with the side stroke movements. Will get better with time and practice.

  • great video i'm learning how to swim now, next step my lifeguard certification, then the SWIM PT.does anyone know where this takes place at?

  • Stew, any tips on soft sand runs? i.e. form/technique. They kick my ass...

  • when you type in Special Forces Diver,(Surviving The cut). is that what or somthing like Pararescue combat diver school is like or is th pj diver school differnt??

  • @war7774 Surviving the Cut did a episode devoted just to Air Force PJ's, But that's a nickname, the official name is Air force Para-rescue, look up Surviving the Cut Air force Para-rescue. Special Forces Diver is similiar, thats typical a Army school that Rangers and Green Beret attend to further their training. Its the same basic fundamentals but each diver school teaches variations in tactics as they have different specific duties.

  • Man of steel is superman... Man of titanium is Stew Smith. He makes it look so easy 0_0

  • @DigiBentoBox You' re right dude :) As we say in german, Stew du hast es drauf!!

  • Damn this is like the perfect gym...pool, weights, bars...everything!

  • I am curious, how physically fit do you suppose you were when you attended BUD/S?

  • @thereviewer1234 Pretty vague question. be able to kick the PST's ass is a good indicator of how physically fit.

  • 2 people swam with their feet and hands tied

  • hey stew, how deep is the water when doing the drown proofing test?

  • I feel like I'm going to LOVE swimming once I learn the CSS and am very comfortable in the water...Do you love swimming Smith?

  • Hey Stew what does the basic lifesaving test in BUD/S consist of?

  • how long do you have to hold the brick treading water???

  • From a video i saw when they were drownproofing they made the BUD/S candidates go to the bottom of the pool like you did but they had to pick up a mask with their teeth/feet/hands is that really done?

  • @TheUprisingNinja

yeah they do that and then bob in the deep end

  • You go to a navy recruiting office and ask for the seal challenge

  • to be a nevy seal do you first need to join the navy? or something else just for SEALs? thanks

  • are you the seal that shot bin laden? :D

  • PJ is my dream

  • dont bend your knees during a dolphin kick. starts from your core

  • My brother is going to be a SEAL

  • The test is called drown-proofing BUT the stroke is simply a dolphin kick. WHat I would do if I had bad shoulders is to get a pair of fins and work the legs more while you swim by flutterkicking and/or dolphin kicking...

    Stew

  • @Stew50Smith what is the name of the US Navy Seal survival swim when their arms and feet are tied? I have to swim in that technique, save the shackles, because of bad shoulders. Only problem I'm having is figuring out how to do it properly and take breaths as I do it underwater mainly.

  • Stew, how did you feel like going through hell week?

  • Comment removed

  • stew could you make a video about the hypoxic swim

  • For bobbing, is that in a 12 ft pool? How deep of water should I practice bobbing in? Thanks

  • Awesome vids Stew, do you exhale on your backflip?

  • Okay, I'm in my 60's and swim at least a mile to a mile and half 5 days a week with or without training fins (not those divers fins you guys wear). Please clue me in. I don't see the point of the 'combat side stroke." My opinion: If you need to be aware of what's around you, the good old sidestroke keeps your head above water. If it's speed you need, the crawl, using fins seems to be much faster and more efficient (both arms are pushing the water.

  • wouldn't your legs be on fire treading water with the eggbeater kick for 30minutes???

  • @mattownsu1 You would be surprised how long you can tread water for. I only played high school water polo, and we would tread for most of the practice, between 1-2 hrs, when we weren't swimming laps.

  • im too buoyant to drown proof

i dont go down unless i have no air in my lungs at all

  • @dirtynipplz haha same here anybody have any advice for that?

  • Do you learn the combat stroke during BUD/s training?

  • @SeaAirLand0424 Yes, they'll teach you the combat diver stroke during BUD/S

  • @woodelfe Now, they will actually teach you before you even get to BUDs during pre-BUDs

  • Comment removed

  • so basically if we learn all this we should do good in the combat swimming part?

  • amazing swimming

  • this is so awesome

  • hey quick question im going to take the PAST test for rescue swimmer and i was wondering what strokes we are allowed to use ..i heard it was only combat ? is that true

  • I am currently training in preparation to become an USAF PJ. When attempting the bobbing exercise, my swim buddy laughs at me since I can't touch the floor aha. It seems that I stay afloat midway and can only touch my feet on the floor when I use my hands. Any suggestions? Am I just positive in the water even when simulating my hands/feet being restrained?

  • were you on fight science

  • @HenryMakdonaldz - yes - that was me on the Spec Ops and Super Warrior show...Stew Smith

  • @stew50smith I've seen you on national geographic stew and im very imressed!!!! About one hour in ice cold water!!! well done

  • @stew50smith Dude, you were BAD ASS xD I just watched that a couple days ago and I was thinking like, "This guy must be a descendant of superman or something." How cold were you in that tank?

  • Stew, during BUD/S are you allowed to use goggles for the exercises?

  • @woodelfe - you can wear a mask during swims - for drownproofing no goggles

  • Are any of the exercises with hands and legs tied being timed in training?

  • @operator225 I think theres a 100m timed swim like that. Its like that deadman float except instead of being in place you're swimming the 100m or yd. whichever is required

  • @operator225 : No timed events with tied hands / legs

  • @stew50smith To train for BUDS how many miles should I be running a week? How long/hard should I swim a day?

  • What kind of fins are those? They look nice and soft. Right now I'm using Speedo's short training fin.

  • @dRunKnkenSamuRaI Those look like rocket fins II

  • what's the ideal height for swimming?

  • i cant get the eggbeater kick right, idk if im not kicking fast enough or what

  • I've read that it is possible to swim the 500 PST in under 6 minutes using only 3 to 5 strokes per length (or 25 yards) I was wondering how to do this?? I average about 8 to 9 stokes at a race pace and in no way can I get close to 3 or 5 per length I've been to BUD/S before and am training to go back. Right now I swim it in about 8:45 and I've never seen that before do you have to do a lot of flutter kicks in between each stroke? Just wondering...

  • @nobodynoth55 I have never seen anyone go anywhere near 6 minutes in any of my meets but I would guess the best way to get 5 strokes per length is to go at least 30% of the way underwater with butterfly kick from the wall.

  • @SirAvalord on second thought I would go at least half way. 1/3 is about the norm already.

  • How deep should I bob? At 12ft I couldn't make it back up without my arms.

  • How deep should I bob? At 12ft I couldn't male it back up without my arms.

  • ok im officially intimidated

  • does the egg beater kick still work as well when wearing cammys?

  • Interesting. How deep was the pool. When I tried bobs in the 12ft section I could only do 1, barely. Is that too deep?

    Thanks

  • Please excuse my ignorance but I just have to ask, whats the benefit for the css stroke anyways? is it effeciency or what?

  • Some guys at work bought the TRX straps for around $200. I looked at it and saw that it was just some webbing and 2 metal cam buckles. I got two 1 1/2" metal cam buckles for $3.10 each, 1 1/2" flat nylon webbing for .50 a foot, and some pvc pipe for the handles. I then got the guy at the Dry Cleaners to sew them with heavy duty thread in the standard X and Box, seat belt, formation for a total cost of about $20. And if you ask me, it is much better made than the original.

    Good luck to all.

  • @sharkman3472 okay... So you're telling me green berets are better than SEALs in water? Rofl green berets will never reach the status SEALs gained over mud and blood

  • Awesome vid Stew. I remember back when I was in Marine Corps boot camp we had a Recon Marine demonstrate swimming underwater with hands and feet tied.

  • LOL

I laughed so hard right after he said when we tie our hands and feet together and the warning message popped up.

Some dumbass is gonna try that alone, I just know it.

  • @iRTehSecks he did it on Fight Science with a 50lb vest on

finnaly he lost his balance and fell over underwater

  • what watch would you recommend for swimming in, as I seem to keep destroying them rather quickly.

  • @lilcobra58 i would recomind a nixon watch go to nixonnow.com and look through the watches for a water proof one... the one i have i go surfing and swimming in the ocean all the time

  • Do you know of anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area I could pay to train me? I want to past for Combat Controller entry.

  • Stew is the $hit, cares about his "students" and has done a great service to the SOCOM Community

  • ty Mr. Smith love your videos...i ship off to Army in august and planning on going Spec Ops. so I know i need to do the 50m underwater, but is there any other swimming PT Green Berets ask for, I know this video was for Seals just wondering what else i need to train for in the pool besides 50m underwater for Army...ty

  • @PwNn00bzFTW haha dude, green berets do not swim. Thats what SEALs are for. Green berets are bush gods.

  • @paintdataint

ya the green berets do need to swim...its called SCUBA

  • @paintdataint "Green berets do some swiming in their training they also have the Army anfibious assault training in Florida its just like BUDS they do log and boat PT

harrasment dives and drown proffing just like SEALs

  • i have pst 2morrow. i learned the side stroke today. omg. that joint is hard putting everything together but once u do. u def glide across the water. but i def need the practice

  • thanks a whole bunch, this will really help us out.

  • Great vid!

I am having trouble doing the CSS. When it's time for me to breath I'm unable to stay above water long enough and high enough to take a confident breath. I can do the entrance 500yd swim with the breath stroke in about 10 mins so I think there something technical i am missing wth the CSS.

  • Hey Stew, I have a question, whenever I go for a swim (usually after I get out of the pool) my ears hurt? Do you know why?

  • @MrLostCrayon its from the pressure of being very low in the water for a long time, its nothing to worry about your ears will adapt to the feeling overtime

  • What do you recommend for those who need to improve treading water who only belong to a gym that has a lap pool (4ft deep max). Is there no comparable exercise?

Would appreciate any suggestions, if not i guess ill have to find another gym with a deep pool

  • Stew..thank you for this video.

I was curious, when you expel air under water, you do it all thru your nose..is that correct?

    Thank you.

    John

  • i need to know what it takes 2 become a seal with swimming

  • @MRMetoo89

as a collegiate swimmer, these drills are cake. im guessing you're born in '89 - if you've never swam competively in your life you're disadvantaged in the pool, but it's not too hard to learn the minimums. find a buddy who has swam on a team and ask him to help, you cant learn technique on your own.

  • @ybya923 thnks bud

  • those atomic pushups look killer

  • Can you use your feet to pull up the item/mask then grab with your teeth?

  • @jgq85 not in BUDS

  • Comment removed

  • How deep is the pool (bobbing at 4:30)?

  • 8 feet? Maybe? Thats what it looks like to me..

  • Were you a BUDs instuctor?

  • I've done this during training too. Blow out through your nose when doing front flip and back flip to avoid water gushing in to your nose, it will make u feel more comfortable.

  • How Far Down ARe you going? How deeps that end of the pool?

  • ivysawrudy u should keep blow air out your mouth until u reach the bottom

  • I've done about everything else, now I just have to work on the dolphin swim, doesn't seem that bad. Stew Smith, you're awesome man.

  • Breathe out as you go down, it will make you less bouyant

  • i cant get myself to sink to the bottom without using my hands, other wise i just float, is there any thing i can do to fix that?

  • I cramped up big time today in my calf doing finning. Hurt so much.

  • I cant get the eggbeater kick down

  • ME EITHER!

  • @jonisawesome0

    its hard !

  • Thanks for the vid and tips on training!

  • Stews a beast haha i saw this dude on the super soldiers episode on tv haha good tutorial

  • wow nice trx training straps. and hey cool "perfect pushup" handles. what do you eat for breakfast MRE's? you wear your pt shorts to the beach? I'll bet you wear your combat boots jogging, and yeah Imunna go ahead and bet my left nut you wear oakleys 24/7.....even in your sleep.

  • great vid ill be taking the PAST test for airforce pj program soon and this really helped

  • good lukc man Im training for the pj position I plan on enlisting next summer!

  • real useful to those of us preparing for buds. thank you

  • ooo...hotties.....

  • Thanks for the vid Stew

  • Great video! Thank you. Keep it up!

  • Great video Stew, thanks for sharing. Look forward to participating in the Seal Challenge.
