I saw her in the Teatro Colón in Bs. Aires in 1972. She is the best Amneris all over the world. Brava Fiorenza!!!! But Leontyne Price has the voice, but not the style .
No one could reach her majesty in this role . Cossotto such an amazing ,brilliant diva . She was cut for the dramatic roles even though she could sing everything . She has been an amazing singer with a big intense and extended voice . The words are really poor on descrbing her cleverness!
So great to see this piece of operatic history! I LOVE Cossotto but find her difficult to watch at times because she's almost always chewing the scenery. Here she's so regal and subdued one wishes she would have realized how effective subltety can be. But still a stunning singer and one of the greatest mezzos ever.
@andrea585ny I wish there were a few more singers today you would "chew the secenery". Thre is not a mezzo today who comes even close to Cossotto in these roles.
omg. I saw them in another video from the 60s doing Verdi's Requiem. Now here together. I wonder if they were real good friends. At the same opera house they aged so gracefully
Cossotto, perhaps the best Amneris of the XX century, is in bella voce and well behaved. She had a tendency of stealing scenes (even from Callas and Caballé), but she knows better than to tackle THIS soprano. Brave!
Cossotto was great and she knew it On Wikipedia they rave about her technique- her registers- her tone I saw her in 1970 sing Santuzza ..memorable to say the least !
Who can equal Price and Cossotto today? Two extraordinary
voices together...sublime! Thanks, Onegin65.

Dite quello che volete, ma la Price in questa recita è davvero inascoltabile.

@allanaki Per sfortuna, hai ragione! Sua voce sembra complettamente "secca" qui.

Great quality, my copy is so bad :(

@Onegin65 Do you have an extra copy of this performance? I would pay you your asking Price.

Onegin65 How did you get this to be so clear? It looks like it could almost be in HD.

Amazing performances from these two fabulous singers. An extraordinary and emotional "Farewell to the Met" for the
glorious Leontyne Price. Both Price and Cossotto had amazing vocal longevity...
Cossotto was 50 and Price was 58 in
this 1985 "Farewell." Why this wasn't transferred to DVD I'll never understand.

Grace Bumbry was the best Amneris of the XX century.

No Verret, no Barbieri, no Simionato, no Gorr...what a pointless, and unnecessary argument.

@jmahlon No Bumbry!

Grace Bumbry was the best Eboli (Don Carlo) of the XX century. Fiorenza Cossotto was the best Amneris.

@19621502 I think that Verrett was, by far, the best Eboli

This is awesome and thank you for posting. I have a VHS that I recorded of this performance years ago.
I can't understand why this has not been issued to DVD or any format for that matter?
Are they waiting for her to die so they don't have to pay her?
I don't get it.....

They wait both for her death and for the blue-ray.
