has this pony foundered? she is very easy to see in the slow motion, not showing a true trot. ignore all the other comments, true collection is carrying all weight evenly in front and hind. Never necessarily more in the back.
I love to see that you're trying, and your horse will show better collection and more of an uphill, carrying posture after continual training in lightness. For your riding, a more lifted upper body will help balance your horse onto the hindquarters further. Currently this isn't classical- the horse's mouth is not light and engaged, with the poll being the highest part of the horse. the horse is falling downhill. Good luck- you have to start at walk or halt and be light, before you ask for more
I see a horse and rider that working towards a classical frame. Oh and any horse is built for classical, centuries ago when the riding style was developed the was you trained and slowly worked the horse up is what built it for classical. Many of the horses then were not as well conformed as the horses we have now and so the riders would have to help them become more suited.
How lovely to see you riding bareback, with soft hands! Don't listen to the critics, just enjoy yourself & your pony will enjoy it too. You GO girl!!!!!!!! And remember, some of the so-called 'experts' can't ride bareback at all, HA!
Looking at your notes, it looks like you have a pretty damn good idea about it, and that your working on it and realize shes not realy for the big stuff. Think about lateral work in the walk (shoulder-in, quarters-in, half pass, etc) and smaller circles (just a few to start) Its great you realize it dosnt happen overnight, and its also great that you are trying to rahab the older horse as they can be helped alot by correct riding! Well done :)
Classical dressage isnt a phrase for a horse not being on the bit with the head high and not rejecting the aids, its for the horse and rider to be in an overall picture of harmony with the power almost oozing out from the horses hindend. Good on you for trying, but keep studying it!!! -and dont say your classical unless you really are or youl look abit idiotic :S
Your horse isnt built for classical work as shes not very uphill, and abit long in the back, nevertheless you can try but you will almost need to lift her into it (not so classical as thats not self cariage) At the start the horse is overbent. Her hindend is almost completely disengaged but atlest shes tracking up.
That sadly isnt "classical" dressage, it was just riding. Your gripping with your leg (try lifting your knee off the horse while trotting (get a saddle)) and you will see what i mean, can be done without. You need to drop your whole leg down, your in a "jumping" shorter stirrup position rather than in a classical "standing" position.
Good! but little sth to get you even better: slow the pony down-a lot. More supple hand so your lovley little pony doe not go btw, and strech yourself more upwards and legs downwards. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip- but concerning her pace, whereas it shouldn't be "speedy", her gait, in order to achieve "true" collection, has to be active- "brilliant", as my instructor likes to say :}
Thanks though for the advice about my seat, hands, etc ^_^
Yes, ASK her to move slower and slower and meanwhile reward every try when she does not loose cadnence. Transitions Transitions Transitions is the key to collection!
The 'collected walk' isn't so much a collected walk as a regular walk with the pony's nose in. The trot is nice but at a few stages your pony isn't tracking up.
Riding bareback is great fun and excellent for your seat... so long as you let your legs dangle. I see heaps of people holding their legs as though they are in the stirrups, and this does not improve your seat. If you stretch your legs right down you will find that your seat will deepen and you won't bounce so much.
I just wanted to make it clear that Cinnamon, for a 15 year old horse who is out of shape and arthritic, did a tremendous job. And though her walk wasn't quite collected, she increases the angle of her hock, and the her shoulders are quite free. Her trot is something I'm quite proud of- its been a a great triumph for us though she doesn't yet have the strength to maintain it :)
Cinn is 15 this year :3 Its funny, because other than a little arthritis she hasn't changed at all from when I met her five years ago. Still a spunky little drama queen with a big heart, lol!

Well, I'll give it a try... She may not be strong enough yet to maintain the same motion at a slower pace, but it's something we'll work up to.
Again, thanks for the advice :}
