Nice job man, I love playing Maiden songs on my bass as well. Love it when people improvise with the bass line :) Much room for that in most Maiden songs
Cream,RUSH,and Maiden have created the most potent bass lines in the history of the electric bass.Also,B.Sabbath,and R.H.Chili Peppers, should be included.
Thank you sir,for demonstrating these songs; from the Bass Masters themselves.
I always like the video of the cat sleeping on your couch while you played.
I used to watch his videos when I played bass daily as a kind of inspiration a year ago, because I´m also a big maiden fan.. I haven´t enough time now to play bass everyday but today I accidently watched a video of him and get to know that he is dead :/ I belive you was a big idol for many musicians here on youtube.. rest in piece.
You know, only the good die young, all the evil seems to live forever..
It'll be much sooner than that, I promise you. I have not always practiced a lot....life sometimes gets in the way of playing. About 90% of my skill I learned in the first five years. The rest has just been paying attention to dynamics and writing my own basslines to tunes I love.
I bet you arent even half as good as this guy so fuck off, why does it matter if people use picks or not, I mean this video isnt supposed to be an exact replica of Iron Maien its a cover, or even an interpretation.
As always an amazing cover! keep it up, your a reason why i play Maiden songs, and to peoples dismay i'm a pick player, how i learnt so its fluid, thanks to you i'm becoming more into other bands not just my favourite band, (Motorhead), so thanks for uploading and keep up the amazing work chief! your a true inspiration!
No, your comment failed. I do not use tabs, so you are way off base there. You are just another troll trying to shit on people because your precious little ego cannot handle the fact that you have 5 subscribers and zero attention. So fuck off, douchebag. This channel is for people who have made peace with their insecurities....obviously you have not.
Between a pick and fingerstyle, I must confess I am far more comfortable with a pick. I started out playing with a pick and did so for about 4-5 years before I even tried playing with my fingers.
However, I am as comfortable slapping as I am playing with a pick. It's really a similar motion. Of course people say I have a really unorthodox slap style, so perhaps my slap style is borne of originally being a pick player.
I love what you did to this song! You should really try playing this with your fingers. It takes a lot of dedication, but I i can do it I am sure you can.
LOL....no, I cannot. Not with any degree of power and precision. It's a limitation of mine from not being a fingerstyle player for the first five years of playing. My fingers have some ability, but not Steve Harris level of ability.
is your bass plugged into your computer and if so how would I do that (need step by step if you don't mind) great playing, and love your technique... esp when you switch from fingers to pick style
Bass to effects processor to guitar recorder to the computer. That's the set-up. As far as what equipment I use, you can get that from my channel page.
I don't know if you can do this with your bass but on mine the hole that the pick-up is mounted in is a little to big so there's a gap on the top that lets me wedge a pick in. Getting it out is as simple as sliding it out with my thumb.
great vid man. Sounds like I've got more practicing to do. The switch to the pick was rather bad, but just because of the dropped sustained note. I usually keep my pick in my teeth.
Wish I could, but youtube yanks them down before they even have a chance to post. I am afraid that the old covers I did will have to do.....plus the ones that were removed that I posted on yourplayalongDOTcom.
Yeah, I corrected the blocking issue on the next video. Been a while since I shot a vid with this kind of camera, but the quality is much, much better.
Hey Rob that was brilliant. Haven't listened to that album for quite a while now. Seventh son was also my first maiden album back then. From that point on I had to go back in time. There's so many great songs on this album but I can see why you picked this as your favorite. The bass really shines there and so did you.
This is pure "awesomeness" man! A true LRRG for sure!!!
And yes this is a awesome song, maybe the best on the album along w/ Moonchild in my opinion. Then again the whole album is amazing, my first Maiden album 20 yrs ago!
I have so much respect for you, now that you covered this Maiden gem, zodiakironfist. It's underrated Maiden gems like these that I love to just turn off all the lights and listen too. Keep up the good work.
It is not one of their featured tunes from that album....which makes it a B-side tune.....an uncelebrated gem. I didn't literally mean it was released as a B-side of a single release.
Yes, there is plenty of upstroking in this tune. too fast to play unidirectionally, and too slow to just blitz it like a death metal tune. Medium speed is a pain to play.
Thanks....new T-shirt, actually. Got it for free from a trade show.
hey Zodiac, if you had to choose a bass to buy what would you choose? I have a Ibanez GSR 200 and am looking to get a different guitar. What would you choose?
Well, every bass player is different, so it is hard to say what would be best for you and the amp you have. My suggestion is always to try everything.
When I did this exercise last, I found the Schecter Stiletto Elite. I never had heard of the brand before I played it. Sure was sweet with the thin neck and the great tone for slap style.
Sometimes she sounds really growly and great, and other times not so much. The good thing is...I seem to be getting good sound out of her for now, so I will be sure to make a bunch of vids soon while the gettin' is good.
Nice name. Nice bass. I hope you get a lifetime of enjoyment out of her as I have Priscilla. My bass and I are inseparable. I'd choose my wife over my bass, of course, but nothing else.
By the way, I shot another vid today. Much faster tune, and I was covered in sweat by the time I did my last take.....Megadeth tune from the first album. I'll release it in a few days or so.
Thanks much. I don;t know if it is talent so much as just working at it by ear for years. Honestly, before I started playing bass I thought I was tone-deaf. Some might even still argue that I am...LOL.
Yeah the flu itself is no so bad if you are a healthy person. But for some reason certain people take a taurn for the worse. I think there might be a genetic factor like fasculating fasciatus had (flesh-eating bacteria).
Just fine, I suppose. Her sound is not perfect....kinda muddy, but still she is a blast to play. So reactive to a strong a strong attack.
Sorry about not making a vid in a while. That business trip to England took a bit of preparation, and when I came back, I had to get work in order again. I am just getting my head above water now.
It was way more than it was cracked up to be. I had a life-changing experience there....the people were so nice it made me ashamed how we can be here in the states.
The business trip....I had to give an invited talk about my metabolomics research to an international society of metabolomaticians (other scientists who aslo use metabolomics techniques). I learned a lot there, and my talk was well-received (as you can guess I'm a bit of a showman But the pub life was wonderful!
Well, what do you expect? We're Americans, not much can be done about it.
Metabolomics? Does this have anything to do with the bug stuff you do? It's definitely a first I've heard of it. Did you go to an english pub, if so, how was it? Any different than the bars we have?
It was great. I'd finish the conference for the day in the early afternoon, went back to my hotel, ripped off my tie, donned a metal T-shirt, and then had a REAL good time, thanks to the locals.
Bug man by day, crazy-ass bassist by night. I'd say that's a pretty damn good living right there. Must be bringin' home the bacon too. I got a question for ya. I've decided to take a major in electric engineering with a minor in telecommunications, do you think that would fit with someone who wants to get into the music thing with the band and whatnot?
Great job man! Thumb up for you!
But you use the pick in the middle while Steve Harris plays all song with fingers!

You could be a live bait salesman or a neurosurgeon and have a second life as a musician. It's all a matter of how your prioritize your life.
