Diana Damrau is great as Lucia, either her dramatic passages or the coloratura ones are very good. I don't like to compare sopranos but something is telling me that they should have recorded and released the DVD with Damrau instead of Netrebko. Diana is Dynamite!

i would like you to listen Rachele Gilmore doing Lucia, if you already did it, you'll agree with me that she has a bright future ahead her(she is only 28 years old) if you hadn't it will be a really good surprise

Damrau is a true coloratura, whereas Netrebko sings in the false repertoire. That's the difference.

I am a Netrebko fan but Ms. Damrau is so wonderful in this role. Hard to imagine a contemporary who is better!

That is a water armonica, an instrument already much forgoten by the time the opera was written but used by Donizetti by the eery quality of the sound, perfect for this scene. This is the original music composed by Donizetti.

Merci pour avoir posté ceci. Damrau est une des meilleures Lucia actuelles. Bravo à elle pour cette prise de rôle. Dommage que ce soit avec Netrebko que le DVD sera enregistré. Ses variations sont très intéressantes. J'aime beaucoup Damrau et c'est une des meilleures sopranos cooratures actuelles. Elle surclasse Dessay et Massis dans ce rôle pour citer les Lucia actuelles.
