@XjyujX Glad you could express your opinion with urban slang. You're probably a creationist so I'll just tell you to get well soon (ie you're mentally ill).
@jisaid08 Interesting, but does not change the character of the information given <3 More or less I feel the same way about Atheists, So much makes "best sense" with a God, who knows what we find in 50 years ^_- (at least a God of Descartes and Newton, if not of the bible)
@XjyujX The Bible has a track record of zero of actually accomplishing anything. The desert god of ancient Palestine does not exist and is merely a fantasy that you refuse to let go of. Science will only further disprove the Bible as time goes on, not validate it in anyway. You are free to indulge in whatever fantasies you wish, however, the underlying fact is science works, and religion fails. Descartes is a cowardly way of living, and Newton lived 200 years ago he didn't know what we do now.
@jisaid08 "The Bible ..... and religion fails" Strange that you would write that after I gave a "soft, reluctant" acceptance of that with "If not a God of the Bible", but thx U for spelling it out. I really would not want to argue for that position (At first) even tho I do hold it. Before I make an assumption, could you explain what you mean by, "Descartes is a cowardly way of living", You mean his philosophy is? As for Newton, What piece of information do you think would have changed his mind?
@XjyujX Newton did not have the benefit of a naturalistic explanation of how life formed on Earth, and accepted the idea of god. Newton's views on religion are irrelevant as he also believed in alchemy a process of turning lead into gold. Even a genius like Newton can believe something which is incorrect due to lack of information. Had he understood modern chemistry he would not have believed in alchemy. The same is true of his belief in god and his lack of understanding of biology.
@jisaid08 But that does not mean Newton would be convinced of a Darwinian explanation! For example I am not, and I have studied it extensively. Holding one wrong idea does not mean that other ideas that a person holds are wrong. Also I am a little confused as we know you can remove a proton from a nucleolus, thus changing something from one element to another. Newton would have never been able to do this, as the technology/chem did not exist. (But it takes more $/energy then it is worth.)
@jisaid08 Umm two more things, 1) could you point me to the reading/information that convinced you of a Darwinian explanation? Maybe I am missing some huge point on the topic. 2) explain what you meant by the comment on Descartes?
@XjyujX Evolution is confirmed with genetics, paleontology, geology, and comparative anatomy. I am an evolutionary biologist working on my PhD, I have studied it, seen the evidence, and read countless journals on various topics in evolution. I am well versed on the subject. Descartes wager is a cowardly approach. It states you should believe just in case you're wrong. If you're wrong you have nothing to lose if you belief. Well that is not really taking a stand is it? It's fire insurance.
@jisaid08 Very cool, the best of luck to you on finishing up the schooling. I will soon be working on a MA in Philosophy. Could you point me to a piece of writing on genetics which points to a Darwinian explanation, which you particularly enjoy? As Genetics is what I am most familiar with, that & biological systems. I think you might be confusing another persons work, "Pascal's" wager. I am talking about the proof of God that Descartes gives, "Cogito ergo sum" , in the line of Spinoza and Kant.
@XjyujX Well any evolutionary genetics journal is filled with hundreds of examples of evolution seen in genetic studies but here's a specific example. Telomeres are found on ends of chromosomes and they consist of repeat sequences which shrink as you age. DNA cuts off some of it's ends when it replicates and progressively gets shorter which each round of replication. The great apes have 48 chromosomes and humans have 46. There is genetic evidence that we came from common ancestors with the great
@jisaid08 apes. Somewhere in our evolution two of out chromosomes merged together into one. Human chromosome 2 has telomere sequences in the middle showing that chromosome 2 use to be two different chromosomes. Hence we at one time in our evolution had 48 chromosomes just like the great apes. Also we share 99% genetic identity with chimps, and slightly less with gorillas. That is genetic evidence that we share common ancestors with the great apes.
Too bad that the content of this video is terribad. Mere opinion .........

Still a lot of Christians in Cairo?

@Treknologist I live in America now, but Christians compose about 20 to 25% of the population there.
