  • @Jon3800 sorry lol I measured it wrong it actually about 7 millimeters lol so what should I do ? :D

  • @treecac88

Well pretty much the things I've just mentioned and video I recommended you are no different. The only thing I suggest is a small pill vial and even smaller prey (like flightless fruit flies)

Caring for a spiderling is equivalent to keeping care of an adult...only you're doing this at a LOT smaller scale

  • @Jon3800 I'm Australian and I'm 12 but I need your help ok I just got a phlogieuss crassipipe kuttabul and its roughly 1cm and it came in a miniature container and what should I do keep it in there or transfer it into a larger container ?

    Thanks

    -charlie

  • @treecac88

Charlie if you watch this video it should be helpful to you

    watch?v=hmBiIIxS7xw

It applies to ALL Ts in their sling stage. If it's 1/2 inch, you should be housing it in a small pill vial with half of it covered in substrate to allow it to burrow, then you transfer it into a deli container when it's 1.5 inches. Feed it small crickets once a week

  • you have a beautiful collection.:)

  • Would coco fiber work? I would put a little peat moss and a water dish in there too. I would keep the peat moss damp all the time and water dish full. Do you think this would keep it humid enough? Maybe weekly misting too?

  • @njnolan1

Yes, but it depends on the species and the size of it. Obviously you won't be able to use water dishes if they were slings.

  • @Jon3800 Oh sorry, I should have specified. I meant for avics.

  • So you don't recommend eco earth for arboreal ts???

  • @UnknownStoner420

yes I do recommend them.. it depends on the species

  • @Jon3800 awesome I love how you respond thanks bro. I have a avicularia avicularia

  • @cry07d

Because it's better in the hobby, you can easily identify the tarantula 100%, and you know more about it than a simple "pet store common name". I hate using common names. They're are so ambiguous and 1 species can take as many as 5 or 6 common names vs 1 scientific name. I'd rather learn 1 than memorize 5-6

Example when you see a T in a petstore tag "red leg" is it a B.smithi, A.bicoloratum, B.boehmei, B.emilia, M.robustum? See the problem? That's why we use scientific names

  • I also ment herp on on my signature but smell check seems to mess that up every time as well

  • Yes buy I I ment u cuz I was not watching y i was typing so seeing I is next to u I made that mistake my bad :/

  • Jon I have a question would I ever add animals other then spiders to your collection, now dont get me wrong I love you collection it's great :) but would I ever add anything like scorpions or whip scorpions or even a centipede? Also would u ever advance to spiders with a bite that has the potential to kill? Thanks for the great help in the vid I will be sure to get a pink tow now :)

-Jacob from saylor's herps and hero products

  • @sitarstylereptiles

When you are referring to "I" you mean me right?

    1) I was considering getting a pet mouse/rat, but my parents forbid it

    2) I've had scorpions in the past. I tend to favor Ts more since they have more variety

    3) I haven't really considered getting one...if I can find a whipscorpion on sale, I probably would

    4) No centipedes! I don't like them and quite frankly they're creepy for my liking

  • @sitarstylereptiles

I will NEVER get anything that has the ability to kill. First it's illegal to buy. Second of all, although I have much experience on keeping tarantulas, I'm not perfect or professional. I do make careless mistakes every now and then and I don't want something that can kill me because I made one small mistake

  • Omg!!! Gooty ornamental :)))))) live em but there like $500 :O!!!

  • @sitarstylereptiles

you get them as spiderlings for 1/2 the price

  • get a fucking life go rehab , freaking addicted with spiders thats a fucking disease

  • @hush08239

You know what HUSH...I have a life.. I go to a prestigious university (you dropped out of high school), drive a car, have a social life hold two jobs, get paid by youtube...what do you have...All you do is keep a snake in a terrible living conditions annoying the fuck out of it.

Yes it's freaking addicting....but you know what's it called...it's a fucking hobby and I breed them to expand it across Canada.

  • @hush08239

A fucking disease? I have slight Asperger's asshole..I know you have the brain intelligence of a gnat but how does this affect me abnormally (spiders are NOT in my head every single time) and how is it harmul towards society? I make educational videos trying to get through thick headed people like you that they're misunderstood animals.

If it was disease, then I'd be spending everyday.I'd be jobless and flat broke. Go play with your snake..seems to be the only enjoyment you get

  • get a fucking life go rehab , freaking addicted with spiders

  • hi jon i've got a orange baboon and shes gravid, do you know how long it will be until she lays her eggs? its been about 5 weeks now.

  • @happycoop123

probably within a next month or two.

  • great videos john, just got a question about my pink toe,how many times per week do i feed, some say one some say twice, feeding dubia roach, cricket at moment ,are locusts ok too,she will be about 2 year old john, best regards, keep up the great vids

  • @nunnybdsc

once a week is more than fine

  • Hi jon my names Gary I have a Goliath birdeater burgundy a fort hall baboon a Mexican bloodleg and a brazillian black I never had a arboreal I have experience would a gooty ornamental be ok even though not had any experience in arboreals but a lot on terrestrial

  • @gazzra69

Gary, I would not go something overly that expense or highly venomous for your first arboreal. Try your luck with pinktoes before getting into the potent ornamentals

  • do you have a pokie? they have a very nasty bite.. i would not like to have that on my face that's for sure

  • @SpinninTom

Oh yeah, I have 15. I nearly have them all except P.hanumavilasumica. Ya, their bites are not fun.

  • I have a question . Is there any type of wood or plants I should not put in my Avicularia avicularia (pink toe)'s enclosure?

  • @TheLyricalUndead

gold pothos plants and outdoor wood should NOT be used. Outdoor wood is prone to mold which is detrimental to the tarantula's health and pothos or any live plants for that matter have too much acidity. I can confirm the issue with gold pothos. I never find it safe to use any live plants in the tanks.

What I simply use is cork bark which can be bought at the petstore, never molds, and use fake plants that you can purchase from your local dollar store, much safer

  • @Jon3800 Thank you , I really appreciate it.

  • I don't like spiders in reality but I love watching your videos and learning about them

  • hey so my pink toe molted a week ago and was moving around but for the past couple days hes been sitting in one spot not moving, is that normal?

  • @TheSpidermuffin

should be moving around more, are you giving it plenty of water and ventilation? Ts are nocturnal. They're always inactive during day WILL always move around during nighttime

  • thanks for responding to my questions . alot of people dont

  • whats the best encloser for an adult avic avic thats not a fish tank on its side

  • @reptiles0802

I've probably mentioned this to you before...A rubbermaid 1 gallon jar from Walmart or the Funarium large size kritter keepers.

  • Hi Jon i recently bought a golden starburst but it doesn't seem to be feeding at all. I got it 2 weeks ago and i have tried feeding it several times but had no luck, for this species i am very surprised at how docile mine is compared to others people have had and from stories i have heard. mine will happily sit on my shoulder or in my hand. Do you have any advice on how to get it to feed?

  • @sonofthedevil1

it's best in future to try to give me the latin name for this species.. with pet stores names it's very hard to distinguish what you have, and I really tend to not familiarize common names. Since I know it's must be a sort of baboon is it Pterniochilus lugardi? or P.murinus?

  • @sonofthedevil1

Since pet stores usually are famous for misabelling Ts. If it's P.lugardi, I'm not surprised because it is semi-aggressive species, much calmer than OBT but I really don't suggest continuing to handle. The stories are true, they might be aggressive but they are very highly venomous and she can ruin your week if she bit you.

Usually a baboon that refuses to eat are in premolt. You will not see a black bald spot since these don't flick hairs. Send me a picture of the T.

  • Hi Jon

Was just wondering how its best to place the heat mat? I would assume on the back of the enclosure?

  • @chalky2494

normally I wouldn't recommend using heat mats because of their hotspots...but I'd would mount it on the side. Never put one underneath.

  • i have a pink toe it is juvenile

  • I just bought my first tarantula, which is a Pinktoe. what should i do to control the humidity effectively?

  • @nznc50

keep pour water over the substrate and have a water dish. Be sure to have proper ventilation or else it can die

  • hi i am getting a h.mac for my first arboreal can u give me some tips.

  • @elricaful

watch the part at 7:28, I did cover basic tips. I really don't suggest you getting one as your first arboreal. You have to be fully aware that they are very fast, they are very nasty tempered, and they are highly venomous. My best advice is take precautions, and do not get bit.

  • @jon380 ... sorry for all the questions.. im new to this. and i cant find any coco peat or anything but i found a lot saw dust.. is it okey to use a saw dust as a substrate? or is a bad idea?

  • @thuzhar

They're available. I just don't think you've looked in right places. Most of the substrate I use can be bought in any plant store, I mainly the African violet potting soil from walmart. If you go to the petstore, you can buy the exoterra plantation soil that comes in a brick. Here they are $9 for a pack of 3.

Saw dust is a BAD idea. The worst substrate you can use next to wood chips. It can be fatal to the tarantula, and its way too light to sustain burrows.

  • @Jon3800 i have some white sand from the sea, those are soft. is that okey?

  • @thuzhar

Sand is not good either. I' m assuming your dwarf tarantula is one you caught..well they need to burrow...sand is just too soft of a substrate. Plus you need to be providing a fair amount of humidity in the tank. Requires misting the substrate. Sand just sucks at keeping humidity plus it becomes really heavy when misted.

As I said before, go to place that sells plants and purchase a bag of potting soil or the substrate that comes in a brick. It costs $5-9

    No woodchips, sand,

  • @thuzhar i see.. but here in philippines i dont know where to find them .. can i use pebbles?

  • @thuzhar

Surely there must be a plant store where you can buy a bag of soil. Is this a local tarantula that you've caught? DO NOT use Pebbles. Too jagged and too hard. This WILL hurt your tarantula and possibly kill it by falling on it and splitting open its abdomen, they need the softest substrate. If its one of your local dwarfs you should be given deep layer of potting soil as it will need it to burrow.

  • @Jon380 do dwarf tarantula molt?

  • @thuzhar

    yes they do

  • I just got a funnel web tarantula last night i was smoking in the backyard and saw it walking right passed me and ide like to keep it as a pet but im having trouble finding information about it as not many people want to pet these spiders because they are the most dangerous and venomis spiders in the world. If anyone can give me any information on how to take good care of it i would appreciate it alot.

  • @MrPwnstar007

personally I wouldn't own a funnel web as a pet. It is potentially lethal if you got bitten, especially the Sydney funnel web (A.atrox).

I can't provide good info on how to care for it because I've never owned one (I can ASSUME) nor will I risk myself owning such a beast. I probably would assume the traditional terrestrial setup/burrowing.

With all due respect. Please BE VERY CAREFUL, because owning funnel webs is like playing with fire.

  • @Jon3800 I live in australia and just above nsw where sydney is located im pretty sure it is a sydney funnel web and yes ive done some research and heard it is a burrowing spider.. if you could please give me more info about burrowing spiders that would be great and i have subscribed i really find your videos interesting :)

  • @MrPwnstar007

Well, all you simply do is give a lot of substrate to burrow. I do have caresheets of typical burrowing tarantulas such as Haplopelma lividum (cobalt blue) and Selenotypus glenelva (Australian Whistling tarantula). You'll see in many of their enclosures, 70% of their cage is filled with soil

  • My curly hair T shes been sitting in her den for 6 days she hasnt been out night or day.

but i do see her turning around now and then.

she tends to stay in her small den not much bigger than she is.

is this a sign of molting. i gave her a love tap on her back leg with pencil yesturday an she turned around an put her 2 feelers up at me. an more or less told me to bogg off.

:) so i left her bee. strange not to see her alot now. only had her about 3 months.

  • @trotskiii3

this video is specifically for tree spiders only and it is NOT a suitable enclosure for a Brachypelma albopilosum (curly hair). I tend to not use common names as they are too ambiguous and are very confusing especially one's labelled "redleg"

watch?v=2MZdCD1ZvP0 This is my caresheet video on the Brachypelma species. This WILL apply to any species in the genus, even your curly.

sounds like she is close to a molt

  • yes i enjoyed your video. thanx.

can you tell us newbies. things that we may have to watch out for.

or just best ways to make your enclosure things some species wont like some things some spiders do like in there enclosures.

i have a curly hair T i cant say the big names :) can you tell me whats best suited enclosure for a curly hair. what do they like and what dont they like. thx

  • @trotskiii3 Most of things you mentioned are in my other videos. I know its a pain because I made over 1000 videos, but I put tarantula care/tips videos in one specific playlist, Tarantula Caresheet playlist. It is found on on channel page when you click on playlists, you will see ton of videos pertaining to caring for different species.

  • poop cannons. haha. :) Lol :D

  • how do you maintain temp and humidity in the tank? I just got a pinktoe for ny first T. Is using that pinneapple husk crap as substrate a bad idea?

  • @MaverickSlim

Potting soil with vermiculite mix is the best substrate to use, you have to be misting the tank at least 1-2 times a week. with warm water. Make sure you have VENTILATION. This is very important, if t doesn't get enough, it will likely die

  • hi jon, great videos, very educational. i got my first T about a week ago, a brachypelma albopilosum, its about 1/2 an inch in size, not sure whether its a male or female though. person i bought it from says it ate about a week and a half ago, so i thought its probably due for another cricket. it just wont eat though, not even the tiny juvy crickets. any thoughts? thanks.

  • @joliver1285

it could be a VARIETY of reasons.

    - could be in premolt

    - 1/2 inches are usually scared of tiny crickets. I always feed crushed crickets to my slings

  • @Jon3800

again, big help jon. i bought pinheads yesterday, so i'll try and give him those once i've crushed them. if he still wont eat, i'll assume he's in premolt.

    thanks again, cheers.

  • @Jon3800

crushing crickets worked like a charm. thanks mate. quick question though, whats the best way to tell between a male or a female T?

  • @joliver1285

their molt. Watch the newest T vid I have. It shows you what to look for

  • lol Eeek! Great videos and very helpful. I only have 1 spider (a chile rose) but after watchin these videos i really am considering getting another 1 different yet still docile and easy to care for. Still not quite sure yet as there are so many pretty ones.

  • @DarkAngel45276

    mexican red knee

  • hey man, spiders are the only thing in the world that I am genuinely terrified of. Im studying zoology in university and want to branch into herpetology (im a snake fan). I hope to travel to rainforests and other such places that I am going to come across big nasty spiders. Have you ever helped anyone overcome this fear? Your advice would be appreciated. Cheers

  • @fionnbelieveable

That's primarily why I make these videos. So people can become aware that spiders aren't the monsters they are made out to be. I was terrified of spiders. All that changed when I bought my first tarantula. Studied their behavior, and been hooked :)

  • Hey Jon, I have a Ornamental Baboon and was wondering if there is a reason for him/her (idk yet its pretty young) to be as skinny as it is, I even tried giving it multiple crickets so it would eat 2 or 3 but even with that it gained no weight...any ideas why? I know its arboreal so maybe its just a slender tarantula?

  • @thehat222

abroreals are slender species, you cannot expect these to get as fat as the brachypelmas. The only time to get these spiders with big abdomens is when they are gravid. Maybe try feeding her mealworms

  • Do you wank off a lot?

  • @davidkis11

A totally unnecessary comment. What does wanking off have to do with this video...nothing

  • @Jon3800 I know sorry it's the internet i couldn't resist, Great videos though I love your collection :)

  • @davidkis11 wow youve got problems...

  • @mistikpoet The Care Cup is Empty.

  • @davidkis11 exactly what im talking about

  • @mistikpoet You wouldn't know a troll if it was staring in your face

  • @davidkis11 true true i am amazingly stupid. if u were trolling then rock on.

  • @mistikpoet Can we reach some common ground? His collection is tarantulas is pretty sweet.

  • @davidkis11 yep. i think tarantula are really cool

  • are there any t's that like lower temps and humidity, if so what t and what temp/ humidity

  • @connjamm19

Green bottle blues require 75F minimum and a water dish for humidity.

  • ya my baby bro got bit by the h.gigas.....hes fine.

  • @majesticdemon1

    ouch :(

  • can i keep a pink toe in a critter keeper with bark and branchs

  • @ryansloan14

    sure.

  • H. macs are quite difficult to handle. i handled mine and made a video and i havent tried again yet. They are very jumpy and quick.

  • You should write a book full of T awesomeness!!! Man you should!

  • do avics bite when handled?

  • @Mryoyojustin

It highly depends on the species. Many of them don't but there's some avics like A.laeta and few A.versicolor that can a bit bitey but it depends on individual personality.

  • ive got a pink toe but i want another arboreal t but i want a tame one wat speices do u reccamend

  • @luke70477

I would suggest going for a different pink toe species like A.metallica , A.huriana, A.minatrix, A.versicolor etc.... The rest of the arboreals like the Psalmopoeus, Iridopelma and Tapinauchenius are very defensive

  • Thanks again man appreciate all the feed back.

  • Thanks for the quick response! Right now i have him in a 2.5 gallon tand with a deep bedding of cocoa fiber shavings..or something along those lines its at least five incles deep, will this do or should i make the transfer to a bigger kritter keeper with the potting soil? Here is my main issue the little bugger is acting really strange he has yet to attempt to make a burrow and he has not webbed up his tank at all i feel like he might be broken from mistreatment at the pet store,

  • @Brims131

if its big enough for the tarantula, its more than suitable for it. This species doesnt particularly web very much, it does burrow deep in the ground and the chances of seeing her is very low. Maybe try pre-digging a burrow for her. Since you just got it, it needs time to acclimate to its surroundings

  • Thanks for the quick response, right now i have him in 2.5 gallon tank, and he's living in cocoa fiber shavings or something like that? and it's deep at least 5 inches, will that do? or should i get him into a big kritter keeper with the potting soil? also this little bugger is acting very strange he has yet to attempt to burrow and he's not webbing up his tank at all i feel like he might be broken from mistreatment at the pet store...

  • Jon i need your help i have serious questions and issues reguarding a haplopelma lividum i didn't know what i was getting myself into. The pet store people no nothing about tarantuals and sadly neither do i, but this poor thing is stressed partialy because the people at the pet store didn't know how to take care of it and now i need help to make this little critter happy again. Please help me!!!!

  • @Brims131

you need to keep this species in a big size kritter keeper with at least 4-6 inches of potting soil/eco earth. This species does well in 80F and 80% humidity.

Be warned, it's not a tarantula I would buy as a first one. It's very nasty tempered, fast moving with significant venom, so don't handle them. They can and do bite and often more than once

  • OHH! i actually got a molt! SWEEEET!

  • how often do you think i should water the soil for my avicularia metalica sling? im using regular potting soil is that a bad idea?

  • once or twice a week is ample. I use potting soil. I wouldn't hurt to buy some vermiculite and mix it in, that way it will help it keep it humid

  • Im quite against vermiculite for safety reasons. It has been known to contain asbesdos. My dad has talked to clients who have been exposed to it. Mesotheilioma is a mother fucker. Doesn't kill as fast as Anthrax, but it all depends I guess. How bad the exposure is.

  • how many tarantula's do you have in total?

  • 69 currently

  • hey man just got my p.regalis got her home all set up she came out looked around but i aint seen her for bout 5 days when i was researchin them it said they come out alot? just wondered what u think

  • I hardly see mine, if its a sling, they usually burrow

  • Hey Jon, long time viewer, first time commenter. I have a question, do you use humidifiers to keep your T room humid or do you just mist every enclosure from time to time? I am running 3 humidfiers in a room probably something like the size of yours.

  • I sometimes run them from time to time. I usually pour very warm water over the T's substrate and close the door. Its usually very humid in there, but humidifiers do help

  • Potting soil is a better and more natural type of substrate, as pinktoe never come across black sand. About 2 inches of potting soil mixed in withe vermiculite is fine

  • Is peat moss okay for a a. avicularia?

  • if you mix that with vermiculite, yes

  • Thanks

  • hi jon

i might be getting an Avic avic and i was wondering if 80% humidity and 80 degrees F is ok and when molting what humidity shood it be

    Thanks :) !!!

  • 80-85% should be fine. Make sure it has good ventilation

  • ok thanks m8 :)

  • what was the name of the last spider in this video?

  • Poecilotheria metallica - Gooty Sapphire Ornamental

  • where did u get it and how much was it?

im tryin 2 start my own collection so far i have rose haired, male pink toe and a versicolor female

  • I purchased it from tarantula canada. I paid $200 as a 1 inch specimen

  • do they have a webcite i could check out?

and thanx 4 all the info man!

  • nvm i found the webcite whats the formula 2 show how much it would cost in US dollars?

  • depending on the price and the seller. Adult females are between $700-1200 US

For slings about the size I bought, you're looking a good $150 US..Its a very rare species, which explains the high price

  • alrighty man thanx a lot!

  • if this this is your first spider, I would try avoid this species for now, as it is a very fast and highly venomous species

  • naw i have had a few T's

  • i think im getting a Avicularia avicularia or a Avicularia versicolor

  • lol wow iv taken my mom from hating spiders to waching them eat thanks for your feeding vids bro maybe shell turn around soon.

  • what are the hairs u were talking about with the sling?

  • some new world species (North, south and central america) are equipped with urticating hairs on the abdomen. They will kick off hairs if they feel threatened. It feels like itching pattern.

  • are taratulas good pets? i mean can u handle them?

  • they make good pets, low maintenance. Select few can be handled but its not recommended that you do.

  • ok the one im getting is 3 in can i put he/she in a little critter ceeper

  • yes

  • lol is this your first spider?

  • ya hey is a orange starburst baboon that aggresstive because i ordered one and i heard that they are aggressive but i only trust u because u know alot about them tarantulas

  • Oh yes, very highly defensive

  • Yeah I bet too large of a container would stress out a small sling. of 3/4-1"

gotta go to pharmacy and find some pil jars when I order T's.

  • ya, fortunately my dealer is close by, so I get the Ts with their enclosures

  • Nice the online Dealer I bought from last time IS farrrr away a few states away

SO I gotta hunt down good enclosures.

  • BTW what do you use to poke holes in the side of those containers?

  • pick or drill bit

  • Your P. Irminia is in the exact same type of deli cup Im talking about.

I wanted to know if those. the tall ones were good for aboreals. lol

  • they have to be tall

  • hey jon im a scorpion person and i wna tto get into trutulas as well i hold my scorpion a lot and im going to get a truntula soon at the exsotic petshop will eat eat mice and hwo do i hold it without it being afraid of me

  • You must never hold a tarantula if you're afraid of it. They can sense it and may react accordingly. The best way is to put your hand near the front of the spider, and gently nudge the abdomen to get it to walk on your hand. Test the temperament with a brush before you use your hands.

Never feed them mice. It will harden the exoskeleton resulting in very dangerous molts

  • if i had lots of epierience whitch i dont what would my first hard/medium t?

  • L.parahybana

  • are they deadly spiders?

  • there venom isnt strong enough to kill a person

  • Im not really talking about actually handling an H. mac. More so process of transfer and maintenence. using a piece of tree bark is good too incase they should try to take off you can use it to "try" to slow down their retreat. Should the spider initiate a defense position, leave it alone. Thats the spider's final warning. They will either scape up a pair of forceps or any other object or take a flying leap, and will surely bite you. If not, you are very lucky. Not saying Im an expert.

  • Jdrisc247 and NYCMuffinman are 2 others who handle their H. macs. Not so sure they knew what they were doing. Respectfully, I say that. Through some experience dealing with my H.macs outside the cage, you need to develop a tactful technique in aering on the side of caution. I use a pair of long 10" forceps, a deli cup and or an adequete sized vial. Key is focus and composure. This is a spider that can fly at your face. Havn't had it happen, but I have heard from Robc and Dansballpythons.

  • same here my pink toe will not eat

  • my pink toe is dying i think, i was wondering if you had some input, i have her in an upright 10 gallon tank, plenty of climb space, the humidity and temp are all right on, but she won't eat or make web. she actually hasnt eaten in awhile. i know they can go awhile without food, but her abdomen is getting super small. any input would be very helpful. thank you

  • could be in premolt.

If iher abdo's continuously shrinking, its most losing hydratic pressure, in other words, she's becoming dehydrated. I'd put her in an icu to replenish her fluids

  • what are pokies?

  • Pokies are widely used slang to describe the Poecilotheria species of tarantula. They're commonly referred to the ornamentals, such as the gooty sapphire ornamental and indian ornamental

  • I have a vertical tube for my pink toe it come out at night and I just drop its food in the tube how come u have no tube I was just wondering

  • I don't need one, pinktoes are calm enough to handle if they escape. I should put one in for my featherleg when she gets older
