You got the opening date of the Magic Roundabout wrong. My Mum was learning to drive when they converted it, and that was in the mid-60's. She remembers the Police demo for the news/newspaper showing how it worked. First time it all went well, but they didn't get the photo. Second time round the Police cars crashed!
@marklandynut I said it was in the 1970s and not the 1960s because I personally remember it, rather than being told about it by the prior generation. I just checked Wikipedia to make sure I'm not losing my sanity and sure enough the date is 1973.
This is one of the reasons why we have to be careful when adjudicating over war crimes from the second world war. People have genuine difficulty remembering 40 years ago, let alone 70 years ago.
@usenetposts Yes, you're right Things got slightly confused. What actually happened was my Mum was learning to drive in the 60's and she went on to the roundabout correctly (which was a normal one then) and someone was coming towards. Either the other driver got it wrong, or was showing a great deal of foresight ;)
At 5:13 the house with all the Christmas lights on takes a couple of weeks to set up - the owner switches all the lights on on December 1st (usually the local radio station turns up along with the local newspapers) and he sits there for 24 days from sun-down up to near midnight - he does this to raise money for Watford General Hosp birthing unit - he's done it for years and has raised tons of money and the neighbours think he's brilliant.
That block of flats you point out in HH is BT's offices
Seriously? I didn't even realise Baker Tilly had an office in Hemel Hempstead! Fantastic. As to the Christmas lights man, I still think it's very kitschy and possibly even distracting from the more contemplative of Christmas, but on the other hand you cannot fault someone who does it for charity and has stuck to it over many years. The birthing units of hospitals are the first thing many people get to experience when arriving in this reality, so it's a real pity if they can't be properly funded.

Not sure it's even the illegal ones that we need to worry about! They at least keep their mouths shut.
