A friend wrote me a poem in Denver during the early 70s. I was leaving soon to go to Norway. I never lost that poem for many many years. Part of it went: .. "when under Danish skies.. you slayed all my dragons.
I read it outside her house.. It really made me pause and wonder.
We listen to this album that night. Ya, one those moments. God how I wish I could remember yourname, but t I never forgot you, dear Princess.
In the summer of 66 we took a trip to Detroit, MI and this song was popular at the time. Every time I play this song I have fond memories of that trip and I want to go back to Detroit. So sad though the City has lost so much and not what it used to be, really sad.
Do you know that the album cover for GUANTANAMERA features Dolores Erickson, the same lady who is pictured on Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass album WHIPPED CREAM AND OTHER DELIGHTS?
@TheHGN2001 How about the naked lady painted with a butterfly and flowers on the "Love is Blue" album (Mariat) from the same era? Is that her, too?!? She was my favorite.
I was 14 when this came out, in love with a drk haired girl form El Central. It has brought me back to the right of passage, the year I lost my innocense. A forever beautiful song.
God bless YouTube for including this song! This is one of those 60s pop music rarities from Summer '66 that the wretched "radio consultants" refuse to include in their repertoire for "Golden Oldies Radio Formats".
I remember the album cover very well of that LP, which was purchased by an older brother of mine and whenever I hear that song, the album cover immediately comes to mind.
@1paintist Being mainly English speaking, we could not understand the words but loved the song and the music, so instead of whatever the main line is, we substituted: "i need a one ton tomato!" Try it. It fits perfect! And when doing so, it brings a guaranteed smile! WhatcanIsay? :=D
Altough I was born a few years later than this song was recorded, I listened to it quite a few times because my mother had the LP of the Sandpipers..It brings back good memories and I just wonder if you have any more songs of this group to post...I hope that some day to find a CD of their best hits...Domo Arigato Osaimas for posting this Otaku3 (sorry, that's about as much japanese as I know)
We need more songs like this one on the radio today.

@nauort23 - No, Dolores Erickson was not on the Paul Mauriat album (which I think you mean BLOOMING HITS)
TheHGN2001 2 months ago
@TheHGN2001 I just looked it up and you're right; it was called "Blooming Hits". Thanks, anyway.

the song is beautiful but I feel there is a meaning why it is composed in Spanish
without an English version...I know what Los Pobres De La Tierra...that maybe the
best meaning....Poor People of the Earth...what can be deeper meaning than
sharing with the poor......can anyone help me....

Pra mim esta é a melhor gravação de "Guantanamera", e foi justamente nas vozes dos Sandpipers que ouvi este clássico latino pela primeira vez.
