valiant attempt the guy can hit the notes no doubt, but he is wooden , must be down to the stiff upper lip english, wheres your spirit man ?? nowhere near colm wilkinson, the real 24601
@999mcq Hope you're not judging Alfie's performance by just this clip. Have never enjoyed actors/singers who gesture constantly and emote all over the place, that keep "punching it." Alfie's not afraid to be "still" as needed, to let the audience see inside. Over the years, Colm's vocal tics had begun to grate. Didn't know there could be a new interpretation of Vajean, but Alfie delivered. So, for my money, there's more than enough "spirit" here.
So I literally just watched him and Colm (10th Anniversary) side by side and they were both stellar, but Colm SHINES through. 10th Anniversary for the win! OBVIOUSLY the 25th cast is stellar too. But come on, listen to the 10th anniversary version and it's clear. My opinion anyways! =]
Boe's voice is too much of an operatic tenor for this show. Old man Colm Wilkinson is still King and can still kick any Valjean's ass who attempts to take his crown.
I actually like the opratic elements, but it is my opinion that Colm Wilkinson puts more emotion into the song and his acting is better so I prefer him overall.
I agree with you :) Alfie Boe's voice is great, but I can feel much more emotion from CW's voice. You can see the dilemma so clear from his face. At that moment, CW is Jean Valjean!!
@Robi6942 I have seen Colm Wilkinson, and I have his voice on several CD's/tapes. I think Alfie Boe is the best. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it. :)
@Robi6942 lol yah no doubt, I was listeneing to these cd's since I was born practically, to me thats just the way they are sung. I think people usually hold the first version they hear as a sounding board to any other version.
YOU LUCKY SOB! BEING THERE IN PERSON!!!!

When he hits that last note, boy -- ooomph. That's the operative voice I want to hear. Bravo!

That voice!!! 2-4-6-0-1!! Best sounding Jean Valjean I've ever heard. And his acting was fantastic.
