Chesapeake Bay Bridge Accident

I hate this bridge but I was there to witness the accident we were behind it when it happen lucky one on my friends who I was with was An emt and I helped her with some of the people who were injured I had nightmares for about 6 months after that.

This bridge use to scare the shit out of me back in the 70's. My Dad was in the Navy and we were stationed there for years and I remember one time it was raining it's ass off and my Dad was in his 72' camaro just flying on the bridge in this storm. And as anybody who's been across this bridge will tell you it sways, it sways bad! I'm like 5 in the front seat and I look over at my Dad while people are slowing and he is just laughing. He passed a few yrs ago, we always laughed about it!

Just imagine if you were dead in the middle of the bridge when traffic came to a hault and you had to sit there facing that scary ass water for almost an hour.Yes Im from Baltimore, been over this bridge many times and it is scary. If someone handed me a million dollars cash to drive across that bridge, there is no way I would. I have developed a fear of bridges and my heart races just looking at one thinking I would have to go over it. I probably would cause an accident. My sister, who never had a fear of bridges, had a panic attack and started shaking and she had to pull over and have her friend drive over it.

Well, I will comment here. It makes common and economic sense to build a bridge that is above the water 50 feet, and have a high part or raised section for boat traffic installed. After that, it needs to be lowered again. There is no sense inhaving a 200 foot bridge spanning 2 miles across any water. It is ecomonically unsound ! But good footage on the tape, sorry about those drivers !

OK here is my pov......I believe these bridge accidents happen because certain ppl tend to panic because of the height of these bridges and panic to where they slow down abruptly or lose control of thier vehicles.....The state of Maryland is notorious of these unsafe high bridges and wont build lower wider bridges,just so stupid ships can get under,What's wrong with a 60 or 80 ft bridge?

Everyone doesn't like truckers on the road, but when an accident happens like the one where it fell off the bride, people have a lot of sympathy. I do to. I just think what happens if a motorcycle hits that jersey wall on that bridge.

@AcuraJustin: Actually Youtube does reduce quality of videos and the Video and audio can be out of sync sometimes it all depends on ur Camera, Recording device and editing program.

To the video however i live on kent island and i was shocked about this :( and sad even tho i didnt know any of the people Injured/killed, i go across the bridge pretty much everyday

Yeah, when I went to Rhoad Island this past summer, we go over the bay bridge! I used to do the walk, I've gone over it my whole life and nothing like this ever happened (in my lifetime at least)

Last year there was an accident that caused three fatalities on that bridge. No one went over the side but there have been some pretty nasty accidents on the west bound side and the worst were when it was two way traffic like it was when this one happened.

The westbound span didn't open up until like 11 or midnight..it was crazy. Luckily my parents pretty much dodged the traffic though because of the times they work, but they both travel it everyday.

I live right near that bridge. Whenever theres and accident or a lane closed on wither bridge, traffic is backed upp for miles. They make a detour lane on the opposite bridge, and so your basically driving into oncomming traffic. I hate it, they need to extend that bridge, seriously

More evidence to support the need to deal with the bridge: Sunday morning's accident in which a tractor trailer went completely off the bridge and into the water, killing the driver and injuring two passengers in a car also involved. My family helped build both bridges, so it gave us jobs, but I just do not like the bridge.

It didnt damage any of the beams or aything that supported the bridge, the driver just went through the side. Im not exactly sure what you dont like about the bridge but I think you dont like the sides, right?

Well I don't like the bridge traffic, nobody does. And I don't like the western shore, and I wouldn't doubt it if they didnt like us. That's fine. 95% of highway traffic on the weekends is people from the other side, I realized this when the bridge was shut down and there was only local traffic on the highway, about 10 cars per 5 minutes.

Yeah, I travel over it every once in a while (mainly when I'm on vacation). I used o do the Bay Bridge walk where they closed off one side of the bridge to let people walk the whole thing. It's long but fun! It doesn't happen as often though anymore (due to traffic on the other bridge (the one that stays open to cars is the one that the accident was on and during the walk, 1 lane would go in one direction while the other lane was going the opposite direction. Very tight.))
