Loved that the original alien had a visible human-esque skull. For some reason warping the human figure just makes something that much scarier and more grotesque. It's unfortunately something they largely did away with in the following films. It gave them a visible lineage to us, a visible hybrid evolution... The very thought of Halle Berry, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Angelina Jolie, or any other modern actress playing Ripley makes me shudder. I can't even imagine these films being remade in the horrible sexed-up over-dramatic Hollywood of today. The dark artistic edge they had would be utterly destroyed.

Either way just look at it, it's like a human mutation, human skull, no eyes but developed senses instead. I think this theme can be found in Space Jockey design as well. Look it up everyone!

Alien design was inspired by one of Giger's paintings in which was showed humanoid creature which head IS dick. So I guess Giger slightly changed it to make Alien not only creapy but bizzarre at the same time because in my own oppinnion, Alien's head design is one of it's best and famous trademarks.
I kinda wish that they kept the human skull visible so that you can see how the alien form is just a perversion of the creature it impregnated, makes it even creepier to me.
Giger's art is so..... abstract, and yet so oddly dark and disturbing, he's a true artist, if perhaps, a tad bit vulgar at times. I consider "The Alien" his finest achievement, along with the alien landscape and the derelict spaceship in Ridley Scott's movie. Somehow, everything in that movie represents things both beautiful and elegant to some of the most nightmarish imagery ever in a movie. Pretty remarkable and iconic. That said, Alien is my favorite horror movie :) cool stuff.

Alien design was inspired by one of Giger's paintings in which was showed humanoid creature which head IS dick. So I guess Giger slightly changed it to make Alien not only creapy but bizzarre at the same time because in my own oppinnion, Alien's head design is one of it's best and famous trademarks.

I kinda wish that they kept the human skull visible so that you can see how the alien form is just a perversion of the creature it impregnated, makes it even creepier to me.
Though I still love the design they went with.

Giger's art is so..... abstract, and yet so oddly dark and disturbing, he's a true artist, if perhaps, a tad bit vulgar at times. I consider "The Alien" his finest achievement, along with the alien landscape and the derelict spaceship in Ridley Scott's movie. Somehow, everything in that movie represents things both beautiful and elegant to some of the most nightmarish imagery ever in a movie. Pretty remarkable and iconic. That said, Alien is my favorite horror movie :) cool stuff.

@MaybeYesNo90 oh, and Cameron's "Aliens" is one of the greatest sequels of all time (along with movies like "The Empire Strikes Back", "Terminator 2" and "The Dark knight" in my opinion) and a personal favorite aswell :) and please don't resort to verbally butchering me for mentioning The Dark Knight, since it is a more recently new movie. I liked TDK a lot, it's just that some people think it's overrated and have to bitch about it, so.......Yaaayy!! :D

yeah, I've read about it, although it is never referred to in the movies. Well, maybe in Alien 3 and Resurrection (both, whom I dislike) where the Alien is born through a dog (I read there was an ox version aswell) and the stupid pale alien in the fourth movie, that alien had eye sockets aswell.

Yes, All giger works are very sexual. for instance, the alien "tongue" was a penis on a female figure mouth I think. Anyway, Some people even say the whole movie is full of sexual symbols. for example: how the alien "rapes" its victims in order to be born. How the "larvae" that comes out of the guy's chest resembles a penis, How Ripley is a very "masculine" woman and etc. Anyway, the movie and Giger works are fantastic.

I was just interested in talking to someone who seemed like a huge alien and giger fan (which is hard to come by). She being a female just makes it a little bit more interesting but that isn't the main reason I wanted to chat with her.
