Besides it isn't a whip it's a crop and the crop is more like "a wake-up call" then a punishment. And like Psylocke83 said, horse susually respond to the sound or the sight of the crop so in many cases it doesn't even touch them. Saying "yah" isn't abuse it's stiumaltion horses respond to your voice.
Beautiful horse what breed is he? Irish cob? Heavy horse? A cross perhaps?

wtf, are you serious?? She was just urging him on; telling him it's okay to race. Palle responds to the SOUND of the whip, not on the whip itself.
Really, get a clue about handling horses. :/
