Spartans have the best training, better then ODSTs. Plus, the Fleet of Particular Justice is about 314 ships. So the UNSC was overwhelmed at reach. And your wrong yet again, the only reason the Master Chief got off reach is because the Pillar of Autumn happened to have a hyper-lethal vector (Noble 6) defending it.

There were many more ODST's because they are normal men who received a lot of brutal. This means that when the spartans were called to Reach, they all got wiped out (except for Master Chief and Jun) along with all the other ODST's who didn't get to run away.

The only ones who survived reach are Spartans, unless you count the Pillar of Autumn and her crew. But they are the best humanity has to offer.

@xXFollowerOfRonnieXx The reason why there are more surviving ODSTs because there are at least a few thousand of them at any one given time, as opposed to only about 30-something Spartan-IIs. It's also worth noting that several ODST units were never at Reach, and that Spartan-II missions tended to be more dangerous than the ODST ones.

Also, in the Fall of Reach book, a 14-year old Master Chief fist-fights 4 ODSTs and easily wins. ODSTs are still awesome, though.

@Zazilium actually, the brutes advanced the same time that the humans did. Same for the grunts, elites, and jackals. The only super advanced race was the prophets, because High Charity (A forerunner ship) crash landed on the prophet's planet, giving the prophets advanced technology. They shared some of it with the other races, but kept most of it to themselves. I hope this sheds some light for you :D

When the Covenant was formed, they built High Charity around the Dreadnought so no one Covenant race could use it as a weapon again. Except the Prophets were the designers and left themselves a way to activate it again.
