I never like award type events, whatever the medium they cover: Video games, movies, music, etc........ They all seem biased & rigged in some way.... Even the Academy Awards left me a bitter taste. -_-
The problem, I believe, lies in that this show is on Spike. Spike ruins everything. Even Star Wars. I refuse to ever watch my favorite movie series on TV, because it's only on Spike. Fuck that.
Things haven't changed ONE BIT since the old days. When the nominations got out Uncharted 3 wasn't even in the hands of reviewers and it was already nominasted for GOTY. But the thing that really got my blood boiling was the fact that NFS: The Run -a game that was out by barely 24 hours when the list came out and was almost universally panned by critics- was nominated for best racing game while F1 was nowhere to be seen.
These awards are a bigger joke than the People Choice's Awards.

For game of the year I voted for Portal 2, then some time later I tried Skyrim and that was the new game of the year for me, so the VGA's dont show the best games, they just show the games taht people get access to more, if that makes any sense...
The problem is that the VGAs never cater to the gamers, and what they want to see. They care more about having stupid celebrites appear and show stupid gimmicks on screen. The VGAs are for gamers, show us what we want to see! More game trailers, more announcements, etc.

i think the awards for best games should go like this:
for each category, you nominate 2 of the most popular and overall best games of that section and then get 2 experts for each game to debate why one game is better then another and what it did better then the other. then, after fans see the reasoning behind each debater, they can vote for which ever game they want based on the games qualities over its competitor. that way its fair, reasonable and keeps the crowds attention throughout.

Ideally, a proper panel of credible members from the gaming community (I stress the word "credible" by the way) should nominate the games for the right catagory. You can't really trust the general public. Look at most of the comments on YouTube for an easy example.

VGA's lost all credibility when Portal 2 won best multiplayer, best PC game, and best DLC. I'm sorry, portal was a great game for about 7 hours until I beat it. It's way overhyped by all these cult worshipers of valve. Portal was fun, but compared to other games, it was probably one of the worst games of 2011.
@GOTOHELL57331 By portal I meant portal 2. And my statement still stands. Portal 2 WAS awesome. But only for a week or so. Then I finished the singleplayer and co-op. Then I never played it again. It really didn't deserve best multiplayer, the co-op was hardly "multiplayer" and it was only about 5 hours of fun until it was over or it got boring. Other games with multiplayer I could play for hours without being bored. Portal 2 deserved to win best character (wheatly :D) but everything else nope.
Jack Black was the ONLY good choice in presenting the award. But why not guys like Robin Williams, who FUCKING NAMED HIS DAUGHTER AFTER A FUCKING PRINCESS FROM A FUCKING VIDEO GAME! Honestly, I did play the old call of duty games. I enjoyed big red one for the Wii, and even played the new one... and I did not like what I saw.
To sum it up, MW3 is a shooter. They removed the thoughtful and imaginative missions and characters, and have not improved in the game play section at all. The only place they have improved is the graphics.
This is not a series for hardcore gamers anymore. The gameplay is horrid, the story is non-existent, and multiplay has balancing issues.

Ideally, a proper panel of credible members from the gaming community (I stress the word "credible" by the way) should nominate the games for the right catagory. You can't really trust the general public. Look at most of the comments on YouTube for an easy example.
Hosts should be celebrities, but only ones who are relevant to gaming.

VGA's lost all credibility when Portal 2 won best multiplayer, best PC game, and best DLC. I'm sorry, portal was a great game for about 7 hours until I beat it. It's way overhyped by all these cult worshipers of valve. Portal was fun, but compared to other games, it was probably one of the worst games of 2011.

@GOTOHELL57331 By portal I meant portal 2. And my statement still stands. Portal 2 WAS awesome. But only for a week or so. Then I finished the singleplayer and co-op. Then I never played it again. It really didn't deserve best multiplayer, the co-op was hardly "multiplayer" and it was only about 5 hours of fun until it was over or it got boring. Other games with multiplayer I could play for hours without being bored. Portal 2 deserved to win best character (wheatly :D) but everything else nope.

Honestly, I did play the old call of duty games. I enjoyed big red one for the Wii, and even played the new one... and I did not like what I saw.
To sum it up, MW3 is a shooter. They removed the thoughtful and imaginative missions and characters, and have not improved in the game play section at all. The only place they have improved is the graphics.
This is not a series for hardcore gamers anymore. The gameplay is horrid, the story is non-existent, and multiplay has balancing issues.

I think that they should start broadcasting the Interactive Achievement Awards or the Game Developers Choice Awards, because those are more respectable then what ever the VGA's think they are. A game award show should be just as respectable as the Academy Awards or the Emmys, but if this continues, nobody will ever take it seriously.
