He has been confirmed as a Belmont and the game was meant to be a Castlevania game all along, they just announced it as Lords Of Shadow though for some reason.

I think Gabriel is Maria Reignard's husband or a husband of perhaps a relative. If you'll remeber from previous games Maria's Sister Married Richter Belmont. Thus making the Reignard family the true heirs to the Vampire killer. Also Reinhard was the name of the whip wilder in the nintendo 64 game. Meaning Richter and Sir Leon's Belmont line are dead. Only their ancestors remain to fight the Eternal Evil that is Dracula!

unfortunatly the story will not relate to any previous castlevania games and this guy (talking in the vid) makes to many asumptions, we dont even know if there will be a "dracula" in this game although i hope so

In the extended trailer u can hear Dracula's voice saying, "I shall wipe the name Belmont form earth" or something like that so maybe they decided to somehow relate it to the previous store, maybe just loosely, but Dracula is gonna be there for sure.
