Thats more appealing to me, online deathmatch gets monotanous.
To play the single player, you need Steam service right?
I have had the HL games online almost a year now, and have had the worst time getting technical help from Steam.Thats why I'm asking.

No, Steam is not necessary for bioshock. you are forced to activate your game over the internet before you can start bioshock for the first time.
For me, I had never problems with steam but one of my friends get some weird exceptions during the startup of steam.
